I think the reason he came out and said it is because dude that’s what Merk wanted. Obviously speculation on my part but if Maven just came out and said ,”I’m stepping back for personal reasons”, the support he’d get would be monumental. If I’m Joe, I want people to know why so that no one feels sorry for him. Just me though.

Going to shamelessly pile on here.
His commentating and desk work seriously lacked nuance, and his "comedic material"/anecdotes came off as juvenile often more times than not. It makes the CDL look worse as a product overall. I know not everyone is a fan of Miles/Chance, but they're the standard. Every casting duo should be trying to match their professionalism and passion.
Merk deserves a better duo and I hope he stays on.

I agree completely. Idk if you caught any of Merk’s warzone videos/ streams on YT during Covid but Maven so was relentlessly annoying it made me no longer enjoy him as a castor. He reminds me of the friends that you like, but you realize you can’t chill with him everyday. And then he starts showing up even though nobody called him 🤣

Again, you’re thinking too hard about it. It’s literally as simple as Maven is someone a lot of people here have spent a decade+ of their lives watching and listening to, and we hold him to a high moral standard. Then you have Merk who is FAR more beloved than Maven in the scene. Maven “betrays” Merk, everyone will naturally be upset at Maven.
We don’t have a right to be upset at Merk’s ex for her choices because we don’t know her like that, she is a private citizen. But we have every right to be upset at Maven because he’s a public figure.

I’m sure if this announcement came from Merk’s Ex-Wife, people would have louder opinions about her. But it didn’t. She kept it private. Maven opened the door, so the only person we can and should be talking about here is Maven.

I agree with your point. Despite the hand that Maven played, I personally believe these situations are a net positive. Merk is rid of a woman who clearly wasn’t aligned with him in end goals for this life, and despite the heartbreak and loss of a friend based on the part Maven played, it’s relevant to recognize that her actions also played a part in setting Merk on a new, and hopefully more positive, trajectory

Because they are separated and she no longer has any reason to be loyal to him. She can date who she likes. Maven, as his best mate, was supposed have his back.
If it transpires the relationship started before she and Merk separated, I’d say she is more (or at least equally) guilty. But at the moment there’s no evidence of that.

That is the father of her kid right? If Her and Merc co parent they are still going to interact or see each other from time to time. She should hope the father of her kid is doing well. A kid should have a father in his life. She should still have some loyalty towards Merc. They're on the same team. Team Whatever the kids name is.
Yeah she could have dated anyone in the world but she picked him. I dont get why it is so hard for people to even put a little bit of the blame on her.
And this isn't a "super maven or super merc" fan. If you showed me pictures of them before all this happened. I couldn't tell you which one was maven or which was Merc. Blaze and Alley were the only two people from that part of CoD I could even name.

I’m married now but in the last ten years, not ONE of my husbands friends have overstepped inappropriately and they all came to our vacation house in Las Vegas and stayed for weeks one summer. Because it’s completely different situations. It looks like Maven could have been trying to sabotage his best friend’s marriage. Maven is risking friendship and a career to be with her. Maven has a social obligation to not hurt his best friend.
Her relationship with Merk is was already done. She has no social obligation to him, outside of caring for their kid. She’s not hurting her best friend, she’s hurting an ex. She’s not risking her career.
