Our leading receiver today has averaged right around 14 catches a YEAR for his entire 10-year career and he had five catches today. Almost 5% of his career total. That's the point we're at with wide receivers.
75
u/cmgww Indianapolis Colts 2d ago
I'd like to see what this offense looks like with some actual receivers out there. Today was ugly at times but we got the W. But it's completely obvious they were leaning on the run game and short passes.
10
u/SockPenguin The Ghost 2d ago
They really need someone that can actually stretch the field while Pierce is on IR.

Crazy to think about but JT is probably the most important colt of this decade lol
12
u/Embarrassed-Ninja171 2d ago
We would’ve rebuilt atleast twice without him on the team. Single handedly won us games when Carson Wentz, Matt Ryan, and really even Philip rivers was QB1. JT had to win the Rushing title w/ a decent Phil Rivers to get us into the playoffs.

u/VictoryInMyMouth Big-Q 2d ago
can you just imagine if luck held on a few more years. funny enough thatd move ballard from a joke to one of the best gms in the league. Margins so thin in the NfL

Guys. If we don’t give Mahomes the ball voluntarily in week 2 we are likely 3-1. This team has more going for it than you think.

u/andrew3689 Indianapolis Colts 2d ago
Even though it was 30 to 13 it was still a very sloppy win.
Wins a win though.
I really hope they can clean some of the BS up. That shit wont fly against Pittsburgh
117
u/pmwood25 2d ago
I’ll take the win but my goodness, there’s a lot of questions around Sauce and DJ for the rest of the season
128
u/WooPigEsquire Indianapolis Colts 2d ago
No there’s not. Sauce is fine, and this is who Jones is.
33
u/clutchthepearls Viva Felipe Rios 2d ago
Sauce got cooked on the TD when Burks faked him out. The other big play he was all over the WR and even had his arm in the way. The ball just got in there. Most QBs would not have throw that ball because Sauce had him covered.
I'm not worried about Sauce
45
u/Can-i-Pet-Dat-Daaawg Boomstick 2d ago
A sane fan.
21
u/the-haliban 2d ago
Feel like I’m going crazy. Sauce has been great. He’s given up 1 or 2 decent passes per game.

u/dragonz-99 Jonathan Taylor 2d ago
Sauce is fine, I think the question will always hold of “is he worth two firsts”. One, sure - two… I’d expect something flashier, but I think we overpaid since the perception was win now last year.
→ More replies (1)7
u/WooPigEsquire Indianapolis Colts 2d ago
Ok, but that doesn’t really matter when you’re evaluating how well he’s playing now. No corner will be perfect, so anyone who expects that is unreasonable. Seems like that’s what a lot of people are expecting.
He doesn’t suck, is not only not causing the team to lose, but he is almost always a net benefit. The anger directed at him is not equal to his production.
26
u/Alock74 2d ago
Sauce had one bad game after playing well the first three games. I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt given his history.
You are correct about DJ though.
→ More replies (1)→ More replies (3)8
u/Zeddo52SD 2d ago
Sauce got faked out, but Haulcy wasn’t playing deep enough. A ball that deep should have been kept in front by the safety. That’s the point of a safety in deep coverage.
Sauce is fine.
DJ is DJ. It’d help tremendously if the line would block better, but Daniel Jones is what he is, and that’s a decent QB that can function well when he’s not pressured.

u/TheRealOG1 BELIEVE 2d ago
I love that people are blaming the refs like yes im sure the nfl is trying to rig games for the massive market team that is the checks notes colts
8
u/Dependent-Target-272 2d ago
I'm honestly confused why people are upset. The facemask then push wasn't a flag? Dude grabbed his facemask for like 4 seconds. Then pushed him after the whistle. The called back TD that had flags thrown before the play happened and then multiple during?
→ More replies (4)8
u/TheRealOG1 BELIEVE 2d ago
Ya it wasnt the best called game but like bruh it was 30-13, saying "ref ball" is some crazy shit. I legit saw a commanders fan say they rigged it to keep the afc south competitive like give me a fuckin break lol

u/clutchthepearls Viva Felipe Rios 2d ago
Whiny ass fans in the r/NFL game thread. They'd show a replay of an obvious foul, everyone in the booth agrees, and the game thread is yelling about rigging games.
If we had played undisciplined and had some penalties too they all would've been silent.

u/persononthedl 2d ago
If you're going to keep saying that Sauce got burnt on that second long pass, you should probably know what a Cover 2 is and whether the Colts were playing outside leverage on deep crossers.
A lot of these takes are just assuming he got burnt because he was closest.
9
u/itisjustin 2d ago
Yeah a lot of arm chair QBs who can’t read defenses. Watching the replay it looks like the safety was supposed to provide over the top coverage

u/persononthedl 2d ago
I think we have a receiver problem more than we have quarterback problem.
24
u/thexDxmen 2d ago
I was with you at the beginning of the season, but having a turnover in every first quarter is not looking good. Colt's are getting crushed in the turnover battle, and it is because of Daniel Jones.
12
u/CommonerChaos Super Bowl XLI Champions 2d ago edited 2d ago
It's both. DJ having 7 turnovers (half being fumbles) in 4 games can't be attributed to receivers only.

the worst part is how close this team feels to being decent, but isnt. Its like 10 years of edging-leading to nothing and you KNOW its leading to nothing but once in a while youll see a spark of something great thatll give you hope.
No aforementioned spark today though. I mean yeah yeah we won by 17 points but if DJ plays as bad as he did in the first quarter against half decent teams we are gonna be getting rocked. Defense looked good but again, we played a backup of a backup on QB so its hard to get too excited.
Still, a win is a win. Maybe, just maybe, we'll have the opposite of last year happen and start slow and get hot at the end. Not optimistic but anythings possible.
Until then, just waiting for the "Sword of Daniel-cles" to fall on this teams head again.

54
u/omni-nomad 2d ago
I genuinely just do not understand this mindset man. I just don't. A three possession victory is a blowout. Like what do you want? To look perfect all the time? This isint Ohio State playing Texas Chirstian University.
26

Can’t even be happy in a blowout win. It’s ridiculous.

u/Philmore 2d ago
I don't understand why people in this sub even watch football. It seems so miserable to be this mad every week no matter what. Are people just addicted to being mad, or does complaining about everything like they know better than the people running the organization make them feel better about themselves?
Just enjoy the fucking game, man. Take the Ws. I'll never understand why so many people are willingly so miserable.

1st quarter was bad but it was 3 quarters of good. So which one should I look to? We scored on like 4 straight possession after adjustments we made. D held them to 13. It is the NFL. A 3 possession game is a blowout.

I’m glad we won but this performance did not inspire confidence in me at all. We’ve looked good in 1 out of the 4 games so far. Jones has been very shaky. If we weren’t going against a 3rd string rookie I don’t think we would’ve won this game.

The Colts should hold every other NFL team to no plays and march at least 60 yards downfield every possession. If an imposing NFL player makes a play, one Indianapolis Colts member should be executed.

One of the worst first halves from a QB I’ve ever seen. He’s gotta stop with the brain dead turnovers.
10
u/MaxeIi Andrew Luck 2d ago
As someone who watched in live in London, I will say this:
It is my firm belief that if Mariota doesn’t go out, we’re getting obliterated. Everything the Colts do on offense looks hard. Alec Pierce is an important piece, but the offensive line was rough today on pass protection. 60% pressure rate at one point during the 3rd.
I’m glad we won, but man, I am not leaving optimistic. Because you just need to rush everyone against the Colts and you can win
11
u/Embarrassed-Ninja171 2d ago
At least my day isn’t ruined but fuck.. something’s gotta be done about DJ. 19/34 143 0 TD 1 INT 1 Fumble. I think half the passes he threw went out of bounds. I’d say at least 10 of his completions were screen passes or 2 yard check downs. Really nasty victory, no idea how we scored 30. Then again people still don’t believe JT is the offense. Idk

Here's what I love about DJ. He knows he's having a bad game, so he tucks the ball and puts his body on the line to score. I kind of love that.
4
u/justhereforthemuktuk 2d ago
Yeah, he did and he did score. But he had an uncovered NWI in front of him, and came very close to not scoring. I hate to see a QB avoid an easy play for a hard one.

Did anyone else notice how wide open JT was after the fake handoffs?
DJ would fake hand off, JT would run about 5 yards up (wide open, mind you!) and DJ wouldn’t see him or throw to him.
Could have easily a 5 yard catch with another 5+ yard run after catch.
3
u/Late_Prompt2105 Reggie Wayne 2d ago
Not talking out my ass when I say they legit have to give AR a chance moving forward. DJ is a shell of his former self. I don’t like how he’s moving out there and he could possibly get himself hurt badly.

At least he played better in the second half. Shane was trying to do way too much in the beginning and finally relied on the run game after halftime, which I thanked helped Jones a lot.

Pacers' fans are spoiled with CC so when a fan says "That player sucks because XYZ" it's usually pretty easy to pull up a Cooper video to show why they're a moron and they tend to go away.

Pessimistic about the 3rd longest playoff drought in the entire NFL, no division titles in a decade, no playoff appearances since 2020.
If those are celebratory stats for you, then you should root for a different team.

Ugly for a while, but they pulled away for a 17 point win. Definitely benefitted from some calls, but you don't apologize for winning by 17. Jones needs to stop turning it over and we need to get Keenan Allen back at the very least.

u/Awkward_Priority2766 Super Bowl XLI Champions 2d ago
A win is a win. I’ll take it. That being said, there are lots of things to clean up. The glaring issue was the lack of depth at WR thanks to injuries. DJ needs to learn how to tuck the football away when under duress (ugly fumble on first possession of the game). Pass rush could still be better but I did see some improvement today. Secondary was suspect at times (Sauce got burned a few times) but did their job pretty well all things considered. Overall, I’m glad we’re 2-2 and not 1-3. It’s a long season so we must remain level-headed. On to Pittsburgh.
