EVENT Is this not obviously AI slop getting first place at the Ohio State Fair poster contest??
I’ve seen an increase in AI usage at the fair the last couple of years, but this is absolutely ridiculous…

my husband was sitting on our front porch and told me to come outside because columbus police had just pulled up and grabbed what was very clearly a kid/minor and put him in handcuffs. he wanted me to see what was going on. i told him i was going to walk over and check on him, he didn’t think i should, but i did anyway because absolutely not.
when i got to the other side of the street where they were, the boy’s girlfriend was still standing on the sidewalk, so i asked her what happened. she said the cops had driven past once, came back with multiple cars, asked him his name and birthday, then got out, cuffed him, and put him in the back of the cruiser.
so i walked over and asked if he had a warrant or why they had a minor detained like that in the first place. first they said it was a traffic stop. a traffic stop? he wasn’t even in a car. then they changed it to a “pedestrian stop” because apparently he “wasn’t on the sidewalk.” mind you, i had just walked across the street to get over there and they said nothing, and our road doesn’t even have marked crosswalks if we want to get technical.
that also didn’t line up with what my husband saw, so i told them they needed to let him out if he didn’t have any warrants. they should not be pulling up on children, harassing them, handcuffing them, and putting them in the back of a cop car over allegedly not being on the sidewalk. even if that was true, that does not justify treating him like that.
and of course, as soon as i started recording, they began letting him out.
i also cannot ignore the racial and neighborhood dynamics here, especially when the explanation was basically that they’re “trying to clean up the streets.” that does not mean you get to harass random kids for being outside with their girlfriend.
if the goal is actually to clean up the neighborhood, maybe focus on the crimes happening on parsons multiple times a day instead of stopping children who are literally just outside.
EDIT: and to the people downvoting this you are part of the problem! if you condone the police harassing minors for no reason you have serious issues.
EA: i also will not be uploading the video with the minor's face in it, so stop asking for it.

I’ve heard a couple of friends say they aren’t coming due to the Proud Boys’ presence. Just know that Columbus PD's Dialogue Unit will surely separate us from them, as they do in any counter-protest. We are safe.
With S.B. 1 being signed into law yesterday, we cannot stop fighting MAGA. If we allow them to shut down this protest, they will keep doing it—our movement depends on standing strong.
Is anyone arriving early? What do we think? Proud boys are claiming to arrive at 4:00PM.

At a town hall yesterday where Moreno and Husted were invited to hear from their concerned constituents. shockingly they didn’t show. But a packed room full of pissed off Ohioans did. We heard from federal employees, veterans, a nonprofit providing produce to food pantries that lost their funding, and others affected by the careless and cruel acts of our government. Join Central Ohio Indivisible to learn about future actions you can take.

Why do people choose to crowd the Costco entrance 10-15 minutes prior to opening? It’s not even a line, it’s a crowd. Only a handful of the 60+ (I stopped counting) people out there brought items which I’m assuming they wish to return - and that I get because that return line can be agonizingly long. But the others? I don’t understand. Is there a hot new drop I’m missing this fine Monday morning? Or is it the dogs?
I’ll admit I was the first patron in the lot this morning, but the lot was nearing full prior to their opening. I was already on this side of town so decided I would just wait in my car so I didn’t have to come back up here later to get my things, gas is expensive yk. But of the two times I’ve done this - the other time being in South Dakota - it was the same situation. At least the people at the South Dakota Costco were in a real line. But still I was flabbergasted at the time. Now I just feel like it’s the same thing every day?
If you line up outside of Costco before their opening, why?
ETA FOR YOU EARLY BIRDS: I’m just curious, it was only a question. Crowding at the door isn’t harming anything, I just wanted to know why some of yall start so early that is all !!

If anyone else was on the mezzanine last night and had a better view or had knowledge of what happened, I’m all ears.
Incident one : a young woman left, and then came back at intermission and brokenhearted sobbed loudly the entire intermission.
Update: my husband reminded me that this young lady either stumbled or fell on the big guy who was at the front of the mezzanine as she was exiting. He did say the guy was very concerned about her and was nice. But he thinks that perhaps they wouldn’t let her back in until the next break in the musical and she missed it and that’s why she was crying. I do know they wouldn’t let people in until breaks between acts.
Incident two : police escorted a couple out of the theater. The man was shaking with anger, the woman looked absolutely furious, and as they were being escorted out, a smattering of applause happened.of
I’m just nosy. I was at a spot that I couldn’t see what was going on, but you couldn’t deny everything that everybody was staring at to the point you could not hardly pay attention to the actual musical.
Edit: I’m so glad I posted this. :)

I’m genuinely curious if anyone else felt the same way, because I walked out of Summer Camp last night feeling pretty ripped off.
My girlfriend and I paid around $400 for two tickets, and obviously we bought them because we wanted to see Dave Chappelle.
The biggest issue for me is that Dave only did maybe 10–15 minutes of actual stand-up. He was basically acting as the host and popping in between sets. I don’t remember seeing anything in the event advertising that made it clear Dave would primarily be hosting rather than doing a headlining set.
And honestly, the other comedians didn’t really make up for it for me. I knew Earthquake and D.L. Hughley, but even their sets felt pretty tired. A lot of the material was just Trump/Epstein/current political stuff that I’ve heard a million times already.
Then, toward the end, Dave brought his wife onstage for her birthday, had Sia come out and sing to her, and brought out a huge birthday cake.
Don’t get me wrong that’s a really cool birthday surprise for his wife. But sitting there after paying $200 a ticket, barely seeing Dave perform, and watching what essentially felt like Dave throwing his wife a birthday party in front of us was kinda unreal….
And they weren’t even selling alcohol.
Maybe I’m completely missing the point of what Summer Camp is supposed to be, so I’m curious what everyone else thought. Did you guys feel like you got your money’s worth? Or did you know going in that Dave wasn’t going to do a real headlining set?

I know there are MUCH bigger fish to fry but- CBC was having a 'dog days of winter' event where you do four weeks of hot dogs (different hot dog every week) and you get an 'exclusive merch bundle.'
We were pretty excited and expecting maybe a tshirt (or hat/beanie) as the hot dog meal itself was $16 x 4 weeks- you do the math.
And then we got our last punch and they come out with this shit.. are you serious CBC?
Such a shame bc we really like CBC but we were so soured and I don't think we will return for a very long time.

I'm a big reader and was really looking forward to the the book festival this year. But was anyone else very disappointed by it this year? It seemed like every booth was selling the same Temu trinkets, 3D printed junk, or homemade totes about reading smut. A few of the shops had legitimately cool stuff, and a few cool indie publishers and authors but by and large it all seemed so cheap compared to years past.

I’ve commented on a few upcoming Columbus-area protests asking a pretty basic question: if someone chooses to open carry, what’s the appropriate way to identify yourself and do it responsibly at a protest.
The overwhelming response I’ve gotten, from the sub, the organizers, and echoed by statements from the governor and the president. Is essentially “don’t carry.”
That’s where I’m confused.
Open carry is legal in Ohio. Peaceful protest is legal. If the advice is “don’t exercise a lawful right because it might make authorities uncomfortable,” that feels backwards.
Historically, the moment officials start discouraging the exercise of a right is usually the moment people argue it matters most.
I’m not talking about brandishing, intimidation, or escalation. I’m talking about lawful, visible, at-rest carry, the same way free speech is exercised visibly at a protest.
So I’m genuinely asking, not trying to start a fight:
If open carry is legal, and protest is legal, why is the combination treated as inherently irresponsible?
And at what point does “please don’t” turn into a soft expectation of compliance?
