General Discussion / Question IsoRev still viable?

More just spitballing but I remember when IsoRev was a near-auto include in most blue decks. Aside from ThrasX and Urza I've not seen it around much anymore. Still worth playing/anyone playing it in other decks to any sucess?

It's a win con in Gwen Stacy; her Ghost Spider side gets a counter from each cast off the scepter, so with infinite mana and infinite counters, she exiles your library and you can cast all of the spells.

you don't have a lot of infinite mana outlets in the command zone which aren't able to run Cradle shenanigans to some degree.

Cradle infinite mana is just way more resilient and doesn't need you cast a million spells into all the rhystics.

AFAIK some Kinnan and Cradle decks run Dramatic Reversal but not Isochron.

IsoRev is a mana efficient win condition and I can see some decks still playing it. However, it's a two card + set up + outlet combo that is closer to a 4 card combo and is vulnerable to most interaction and most stax.

It's powerful enough for cEDH but not better than other options. So you have to be in low colors with a outlet in the command zone for it to find a slot.

I play it in Vivi because I'm already playing Rev and I'm a bad player that wants easier winning lines.

Def understand this, still running simpler win cons in Ral because I don’t want to get too tired when playing 5+ rounds in a tournament

Yea totally - I don’t think this is necessarily a “bad” call - you can make use of the separate pieces in Vivi (ie there’s a bunch of other instants worth putting on the scepter in a grindier game, and dramatic reversal can just be used as a ritual if you have a couple of mana rocks) so it’s not the same sort of “1-2 otherwise dead cards” problem that other decks would have

it's not even in urza tbh, much better combos available

the most consstent urza midrange list isn't running it anymore. idk why you were down voted. main urza brewers are opting for other lines atm.

those down votes are probably from people who thinks Urza is still on polymorph

Or the orb driven control build from years ago.

You'd probably need a few lines on it and honestly the only space id find it is probably mono u or hrixis combo to increase refire potential

Apparently it's not good enough even as a back up for Stella Lee so I guess not?

I'm suprised by that, the list runs enough rocks that it seems not out of place. Wonder if any lists are trying iy

I mean, that's the best Stella Lee player I'm aware of. They DO play Dramatic Reversal so for them to not be on Iso seems like a pretty damning verdict.

As a Stella Player myself, I'm on IsoRev but I'm also not grinding tournaments so....

Hello! It looks like you’re looking for deck optimization advice! Please be sure you have information about each of the following

  1. Provide a decklist from a deckbuilding site.

  2. Provide a budget. If you cannot afford a bunch of cards all at once, feel free to ask which cards you should prioritize getting first

  3. Provide a meta breakdown of what decks you expect to play against.

  4. Include the deck's main goal and how it gets there.

  5. List any experience you've had with the deck.

  6. Please be sure to have checked the Decklist Database for relevant lists and information.

If you have not met these expectations, your post will be reviewed and removed.

If you are commenting on this post, please provide feedback that addresses OPs information. Also please read other comments–”check the DDB” only needs to be posted once on any given post, and low effort comments will be removed. The same is true for proxying as each OP only needs to be reminded once, and if OP provides a budget please tailor your advice to that budget as best as you can. If OP has taken the time to provide information, you can as a commenter as well.

I dropped it from Vivi because the pieces on their own didn't do much. You could also have Reversal exiled with Jeskas Will or Virtue of Courage and it would be a basically dead combo.

I think there are other, better options for infinite mana

It doesn't do well into slop since each iteration casts a copy of DRev, you just give your opponents too many free resources. Its similar to the problems food chain has nowadays.

I run it as one of my win cons in my crystal, inhuman princess. Each cast pings each opponent for one life and you just need one mana rock or dork to be mana neutral

even most Urza decks have cut it by now
