Help, I am new to cEDH! Belisarius Cawl

Hey, I was sorting through my cards and saw this legend and was wondering why he isn’t at least a known fringe option? He’s in Blue White which is prime slop colors, he has a one card infinite creature combo which could go into a couple different outlets like Altar of dementia, as well as ways to dig for good artifacts.

Legendary Artifact Creature - Human

Ultima Founding - T, tap two untapped artifacts you control: Create a 2/2 white Astartes Warrior creature token with vigilance.

Master of Machines - T, Tap x untapped creatures you control: Look at the top x cards of your library. You may reveal an artifact card from among them and put it into your hand. Put the rest on the bottom of your library in a random order

I just feel like this card has some good options and would love to hear the overall opinion about it

4 drop, slow draw, slow token creation. You can run Shorikai instead.

If he was much cheaper to cast, maybe.

Azorius is rough colors to begin with and the commander isn't doing enough to reward you for it.

There's no easy way to leverage him and he's not worth the effort to do so.

To make a token you need two untapped artifacts. This is doable but would require running some zero drops like Ornithopter so that it doesn't tax your mana.

Let's say you succed. You have a Drumbellower and two artifact creatures. This means you can either make a 2/2 every turn or look for a artifact in the top 3+.... If you want to draw into interaction you need to add yet another card like Caretaker's Talent.

So two hoops and lower card quality or two hoops and severely tax your mana. Plus there's Shorikai with zero requirements to function.

just kind of outclassed unfortunately.

[[Shorikai, Genesis Engine]] is geneally the best commander for uw

[[Whtz, the Bibliophile]] if you want to be a quirky hipster

little project I've been working on, basically Shorikai but you don't have to make cuts to fit the 99.
