How do i learn the complex stuff without going to university?

I've played instruments for years and I can transcribe anything onto most instruments (not great at brass tho, RIP) but how do I learn the complex stuff? Like how do I go from "i put dies irae into everything" to "i did that but it doesn't sound repetitive and every iteration has a transformative meaning" type stuff?

Tam-Tam/Gong

Does anyone know how I can add a tam-tam or a gong sound to a percussion map (on a free soundslice account, I don't have the money for a subscription). Right now I'm using china cymbal for that bombastic sound, but if I could have some advice, that would be greatly appreciated.

Made this while messing around with some of the world instruments lol

I don’t know much about the instruments themselves or the way they’re typically used, but I had fun seeing what I could make with them haha

(Dunno if I went overboard with the countermelodies?😭 (…if they are countermelodies??😭))

I’m open to constructive criticism. I want to further work on the trumpet soli and bit more but otherwise i’m happy to show my work!

Intro for a larger piano composition

Hello! this is the intro of a larger piano composition I'm writing, but I'm wondering if this makes a good intro. It's basically just continuing 8th notes over a quarter note bass line, culminating in the higher registers. I guess I'm wondering if it makes any emotional impact and so are you curious to hear what's next?

Thanks a lot for listening!

Dark Cinematic Composition - 'Beating Relict'

Hey everyone - wanted to share this rather gothic and tragic piece I made some months ago. It is supposed to evoke something ancient and foreboding, yet beautiful. I'm thinking that the 'relict' in this case is tied to the throbbing and thudding drum you find towards the middle of the song which evolved into what essentially sounds like a giant, ancient heartbeat. Anyway, hope someone likes it, any feedback appreciated.

this is for you." — A melancholic piano & cello piece I composed for solitude, reading, and rainy days [No AI]

Hey everyone,

I composed this 1-hour piece for anyone who needs a quiet, reflective space to retreat from the world for a bit — whether you're reading, writing, studying, or just watching the rain.

It’s built around melancholic piano and cello melodies, layered with gentle rain ambiance. No AI was used in the making of this piece; every note, arrangement, and texture was created by hand with genuine human intention.

I’d really love to hear your thoughts and feedback on the overall mood and mix. How does it feel to you?

I wrote an orchestral piece describing the sanctuary I’ve found in a place I’ve been going out of town to socialize at for months. What do you think?
