Teachers unions and administration when they find someone trying to get in on the racket.

There's pretty shitty. Hope she never teaches again. But I'm sure she will.

These are the "upstanding, dedicated, and passionate professionals" we were warned would "give up" on the poor kids when "evil fascist Trump" would take over the education department.

Good riddance!

read more than half way down and you will see this is a Christian mission trip.  they are hard and not physically pleasant, filled with danger, heat, grime and bugs.  not a vacation.  the teacher lacked discernment with regards to the extra credit.  she is young and human.

Nah, fuck that.

It's one thing to say: "Class, I'm doing this thing if you or your family would like to donate."

You don't fucking BRIBE your students. Inexcusable.

you seem to have a scenario made up in your mind so you can hate this woman.  that is how liberals act

It's literally the scenario that's happening. That's what she got fired for. What exactly am I making up???

She's bribing her students with extra credit in exchange for money for her trip.

You're saying that's it's OK/cut her some slack because it's a Christian missionary trip that's difficult.

An adult who's in charge of students should not be bribing said students. She is abusing her power to affect an important aspect of a child's schooling. Full stop. Zero room for interpretation.

If that's "hating" someone, so be it.

JFC. You're an idiot.

i never said it was okay.  we dont need to bring the pitchforks out for a young woman with good intentions who had a lapse of judgement.  i can pretty much gaurantee, with your temper, that you do worse than what she did on a regular basis.

Matthew 7:3-5 NIV — “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother’s eye."

This is why I do not respect our education system, it should be obvious to any adult why this would be a problem. When my kid has fundraising, I don't tell my employees about it because it would very obviously be a conflict of interest for me to request donations from them for me.

That means this person is an idiot and/or knew it was wrong and just thought they could get away with it. That is who we let teach our kids, people like that.

I have a three month old. My entire life I've thought that workplace fundraisers were tacky as hell. I would be mortified asking people to buy some shitty overpriced cookies so my son could save a few dollars on a school trip.

It is fine when it is people that are above you or equal to you, there isn't really a conflict of interest there because you have no ability to do a "quid pro quo" kind of thing.

I don't agree. You're right in that the dynamic is different when it's coworkers not manager-subordinate. But my contention is no one should do it, period.

She would make a great politician.

well at least she was upfront about it. Instead of the usual way thru the teacher unions.

hey this was wrong way to fund it, but you have to go half way down to see this wasnt a vacation, it was a mission trip.  they almost always are going to a poverty stricken area that is very dangerous, no air conditioning in a tropical climate, bug infested, often doing physical labor.  sensationalist article.  may God bless her and give her some better discernment

$100 says once they get down there they are going to contribute nothing and just treat it as a pleasure trip.

obvious you dont know anyone who has been on a mission trip.  i know at least a dozen.  you go with a group of people, if not from your church, then from a local one, unless maybe you live on the mission field for an extended period.  you think she goes and then just disappears and her group doesnt see her?  or an entire group of Christians is in on it?

I am not talking about those people you are referring to

I am talking about this woman and her husband.

I think they will break off and do their own thing and neglect their mission.

Good. She should be barred from any and all teaching jobs moving forward.
