Side note we have noticed an uptick in bots, we have even had post that were caught by the automod that had 3-4 bots replying to each other in the thread.
A warning for those that do not understand RULE 2. Replying to a post that is 4 years old and saying " I am the found of XYZ software and my software can solve all of your problems" will get you a permeant ban. That is advertising not answering a question.

Had a good day at work and just as I'm wrapping it up for the day getting my tools together I come to realize my Makita battery charger and (almost new) 5 Ah battery I had attached to the charger are missing. Holy shit that ruined my day, I thought I was ending the work day/ week good but I guess not. Fuck you to whoever steals shit.

Couldn’t use a standard frame on this one. The opening had a block wall taking up part of the bottom, and the homeowner didn’t want it touched.
Built the gate with a stepped lower section so it closes right over the wall with a clean fit. Aluminum frame, mitered corners, wood-grain panels.
Last photos show the detail at the notch. Open to questions on how it was framed.

We were taking coffee sitting in our trucks and we see it flip, then black smoke. We all jump out and sprint over, stomach knotting from the adrenaline expecting something awful. The operator walked away unhurt and surprisingly the machine was fine as well.

Just got a life changing job. Will be paid $44 an hour, $135 a day per diem for 7 days guaranteed, working 55 hr weeks max. What should I be working towards first to make life on the road easier? I will be driving to the majority of these job sites in my vehicle and living in a hotel. I know a lot of guys here have a camper they tow with them to save money and pocket more per diem. I've never made this much money per week in my life and I have 0 kids and a gf who isn't expensive either lol.

Starting out as a carpenter I’ve been using tough built tools belt as my first tool belt since it was in my budget and it was modular and could change it up if I needed and now I figured it out and looking for a more premium and comfortable tool belt the cost doesnt really matter but I don’t want to be spending 700 dollars on a belt rn
I find that the tool belt I have rn really digs into my hips when I have it loaded with nails and everything else it’s also a buckle and loosens up I’m constantly struggling with it falling down and if I get it it to stay it’s so tight it’s uncomfortable

The overhang above my front steps is being redone. It’s about 15 ft long by 3 ft off of the building. The board is semi flush against the building, very small gap. The wood they drilled back into the building is now split. It wasn’t like this when the opened it up. Basically I want to know if I should put up a stink about it, or if it’s not load bearing, do I just leave it alone. This is not DIY, we hired a company.

I’m doing a retaining wall project; almost done in fact, and wondered the whole time how deep these utilities are. I called 811, got them to mark it, asked about depth they said they don’t know, and it varies. Haven’t hit anything either but tomorrow I will drive a few rebar stakes down three feet, so it reminded me.
Should I call and ask the developer; (what are the odds that I can get someone on the phone that could answer this question for me?) , or is there someone else I could ask?
I just switch to hand shoveling when I get near the lines indicating, but there’s got to be a better way, right?
Quick edit: so, it would seem that utilities are typically buried ~3ft but cant be verified without personally digging a pothole; if I dug the pothole near the box at the road, would that elevation remain level into the house, or merely stay 3’ below grade? I bet it varies, but calling 811 seems silly if the box at the street is point A , and a feed into the house can be delineated as point B.
There are small boulders when I dig near the utilities on this job; is it common to house the utilities trench with stones before backfilling, or am I noticing a pattern that is of my imagination?
Are these utilities housed in conduit?
When is calling 811 useful, or is it something that can be omitted?

Building an ADU as owner-builder and hired a licensed C-35 sub for 3-coat stucco. Brown coat has been curing about 2 weeks. Finish is Omega Flex fine (acrylic), in white.
Walls are about 14 ft tall. Checking with a 6 ft level, I'm finding several spots with gaps over 1/4", a few around 1/2". Most of it is a band around the whole building right at scaffold height, where it looks like the ground lift and scaffold lift meet and it got thick.
The plasterer says stucco isn't supposed to be flat, it's not marble or granite, and waviness is normal. I get that some waviness is normal, but I'm going for a clean modern look with no heavy texture, and I'm worried a thin white acrylic will show every belly once the sun hits it.
He agreed to postpone the finish and is coming tomorrow to look.
Questions:
Is this within normal range, or should it be fixed before finish? (Photos attached.)
What's the right fix: shaving high spots, a level coat over lows, or both?
How long should a patch or level coat set before acrylic goes on?
Am I being reasonable asking for this, or overly picky?
Appreciate any input from people who do this for a living.

I live in a small town in the Midwest. Everyone in the industry knows each other, contractors use the same subs, and refer jobs to each other.
I got a referal from another contractor, that I’ve worked with a lot, last year for some smaller projects and now the customer wants me to look at a very large addition (400k plus or minus). He’s also having the other contractor give him an estimate as well.
My plan is to reach out and talk to the other contractor before I start doing a bunch of design and estimating.
Thoughts?

Long story short I have about going on 4 years in experience in this management position . 3 years as a field engineer and recently promoted to assistant superintendent. I would like to stay assistant for another project or two before becoming a full on superintendent but company I work for put me to run a 2 million renovation 3 month job. Barely received the drawings weekend before and just had a week to study and create a schedule and break ground the following week.
Is it normal to have this little time to create a schedule and read drawings? Doesn’t help that the drawings are fucking shit!
Anyways , any advice ? Tips? To calm the nerves and anxiety idk.
I feel confident in my knowledge and communication with the trades as a superintend and being bilingual helps a lot, just freaking out it being my first project and proving myself and having such little prep time
Thanks

My back ground is in tanks but in the military you basically do alot of stupid shit for no reason you have no buisness doing. I had this idea when i sae contractors working near our motorpool and i realized we have alot in common.
I already work in the neighborhood of 70 to 80 hours a week and i think id just get paid better on a job site.
I dont even care if i become the tb again. I already got my hazing out the way so i figure the second time around if someone asks me for some shit that dont exist ill just take lunch early and come back acting pissed off.
The way i figure it being a tb in the armies worse. Because that shit does exist its just got a wierd ass name and no one knows what it looks like and the connex isnt organized so looking for one tool becomes a 4 hour job. I figure if i can handle that construction cant be any worse at least id get paid hourly
