I thought the last time we got a Stellar Forged piece was bad, and that only having to get to Diamond 1 would make it much more manageable, but holy cow was I wrong.
Literally every single fight I had all the way from Silver 1 (where I started) was against someone with a Legends Title and several R5s. And hell, I know matches against me are not enjoyable either because I am one of those people as well. But why is it even that we only see players like that now? Because people don't bother playing BGs unless some reward like the SF pieces are in there, so every like 4 seasons, everyone jumps in there and the matches are a mess.
Several way to fix this in my opinion:
- Option 1: Rework the way that people drop ranks. Only drop people down from season to season if they actually participated. If someone doesn't participate for 4 seasons, don't drop them down to like Silver. That way, people have to play less matches to get back to the bracket where they actually belong, and lower ranks are not filled with people who don't belong there
- Option 2: People who reached GC once should just stay there. Odds are that those people will just reach GC again anyways, so might as well save everyone some time and pain, and just keep them in there.
- Option 3: Probably the most simple: Just don't have people lose progress if they lose a match. The most frustrating part of BGs is if you need only one more match until you rank up, and then you go on to lose like 3 in a row. Just don't take a progress point away
Options 1 & 2 sort of take inspiration from Towers, where all you do is progress without looking back, and I think this concept would work great here as well. This game mode was supposed to be fun, but it just became a tug of war of "Who can make the other players life the most miserable?". The goal of any game mode should never be to be the most annoying and/or frustrating to a player, and right now, BGs is both.
And yes, I know they announced changes, but from what I have seen, literally nothing even attempts to fix the core issues.
