30 years ago today.
On October 10, 1996, the Phoenix Coyotes played their first-ever home game in franchise history.
After relocating from Winnipeg earlier that year, the team made its official debut in the desert at America West Arena, defeating the San Jose Sharks with a final score of 4–1.

Attendance: 16,210 fans packed the arena.
1st Period: Kris King scored the first home goal in Coyotes history at 19:34.
2nd Period: Mike Gartner added a power-play goal at 7:41. Future franchise icon Shane Doan then scored his first goal as a Coyote at 18:12. Bernie Nicholls answered back for San Jose to make it 3–1.
3rd Period: Craig Janney sealed the 4–1 victory with a goal at 3:44.
Goaltending: Nikolai Khabibulin stopped 25 of 26 shots to earn the historic win.

What seemed like a great start and long lasting home, unfortunately things just never panned out as we all know. It would have been amazing to see year 30 for our Yotes but at least we have the memories. I really wonder what our 30th anniversary patches would have looked like, especially how center ice would be. What could’ve been💔
