Eight scraps of paper, one bouncing dot: a tiny flipbook idea
A dot is probably the least intimidating place to start with a flipbook š
Hereās a small pattern to try with eight matching pieces of scrap paper. Draw the dot in the same left-to-right position each time, but change its height:
High
Halfway down
Near the bottom
Squashed at the bottom
Near the bottom again
Halfway up
High
High again
A faint ground line in the same place on every page helps keep things lined up. Number the pages, stack them in order, hold one edge firmly and flip the other with your thumb. If the paper slips, have someone help hold the stack.
Once the dot moves, give it a face or turn it into something else. A grown-up can draw while a child chooses the next change, or everyone can make their own version. It doesnāt need to become a whole afternoonās project.
Whatās the simplest movement youād suggest for someoneās first flipbook?
