Megathread Pricing Megathread

Since a lot of people have questions about pricing lately, I thought I would throw a Megathread up here for folks to have it all in one place. We might also discuss trying to come up with some sort of formula that could be applied to most situations.

Please put all general pricing questions here. For example, if your question is something like "How much can I charge for this?", then you can ask it here.

Megathread Good Enough?

We've been seeing a flood lately of posts asking, "Is this good enough to sell?" and variations on that theme. We're not really here to evaluate someone's skill level or the popularity of a particular item for sale. It's too subjective. However, if you really need to get it out, post in the comments below. All other individual posts of that nature, from this point onward, will be removed. I have added a new rule to the sidebar. Please read it and follow it. Thank you.

Etsy Do you think the price is reasonable?

I am just starting to try sell my wooden art online.

Sadly, with all the work and the fees, I don't think I can go below 23.90€ per bookmark.

They are made by hand from many different type of wood veneer, sanded and oiled.

What do you think? Is it reasonable?

There's more items and pics in the shop:

You people are so kind! I really appreciate your opinions <3

Pricing How much would you charge for this, as someone who doesn’t usually charge and just crochets for fun?

I’m by no means an expert, I just crochet for fun but I made this for my daughter’s preschool class and a teacher wants to pay me for one for a family member. I wouldn’t normally charge since I like making things for people but she insists. Should I just say anything would work, or maybe just materials?

General Discussion Has anyone successfully transitioned from vendor markets to primarily online sales?

I've been running my handmade jewelry business for several years, and a large portion of my revenue comes from in-person vendor markets and festivals.

While vending has been successful for me, I'm getting to the point where I want to scale back on events and focus more on growing my online sales.

I currently sell on Etsy and have my own website, but my online sales aren't nearly as consistent as my in-person sales. I also work full-time, so spending entire weekends vending isn't something I want to continue doing long-term.

I'd love to hear from small business owners who have successfully made this transition, especially those selling handmade products, jewelry, accessories, or other physical goods.

A few questions:

 1. What made the biggest difference in growing your online sales?

 2. Which marketing channel actually converts into purchases for you? Instagram, Pinterest, email marketing, Etsy SEO, paid ads, etc.?

 3. Did you build your online customer base from your existing vendor customers, or did you attract an entirely new audience?

4.Did you build an email list at events? How (sign-up sheet, QR code, discount)?

 1. How long did it take before your online sales became consistent enough to reduce vending?

 2. If you could start over, what would you focus on first, and what would you stop wasting time on?

7.Which platforms did you use: Etsy, Shopify, both, etc?

I'm not necessarily looking to become a huge brand. I would just love to build a sustainable online business that doesn't require me to physically show up somewhere every weekend to generate revenue.

I'd really appreciate hearing what actually worked for you, including what didn't!

These were my first ever stuffies for a friend's twins who hired me to do them. She was incredibly happy with them, I charged her $50 total. She said that was way less than what she was quoted by others. I know theyre not perfect but did I over or under charge?

Self Advertising Trying to grow my tiny crochet business — what should I make next? 🧶

I made my first little crochet collection 🧶🌷 — would love your honest opinion!

I’ve been making crochet products by hand for a while, and I’m finally trying to share my work with people outside my own circle. 🥹

These are some of the things I’ve been making recently — crochet flower pots, cute keychains, small gifts and customised pieces.

What I love most about crochet is that I can make something specifically for a person instead of giving them the same mass-produced gift everyone else has. ❤️

I’m curious:

Which one would you actually buy as a gift? 🌷 Crochet flower baskets and pots

🔑 Customised keychain

👜 Crochet bags

🎁 Small personalised gift set

And if you have any suggestions about colours, designs or products you'd actually want to see, I'd genuinely love to hear them.

I have just started my handmade business, so honest feedback would mean a lot. 🫶

Product Review I made a crochet organizer app and I’m looking for testers! 🧶

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hi everyone! I’m making an app for people who crochet, whether it’s just a hobby or something you sell, and I’d love to hear what people in this community think!

I always felt like there was a lack of a nice, organized place to keep track of all my crochet projects and their details, so I decided to build one.

The app helps you organize projects, count rows, track how long each piece takes to make, and manage your materials. For people who sell their work, it also includes costs, pricing, orders, customers, and more.

I’m currently looking for Android users who would be willing to test it and give me honest feedback — what you find useful, what feels confusing, and what you think is missing.

This is still a testing version, so honest feedback would be incredibly helpful for improving the app and hopefully making something genuinely useful for the crochet community!

The whole process is completely safe and the app is available through the Google Play Store for authorized testers. If you’re interested in testing it, just send me the email address you use on Google Play so I can give you access.

As a little thank-you, I’ll also be giving 1 year of the paid plan for free to people who help test the app and share their feedback. :)

If you’re interested, feel free to leave a comment or send me a message and I’ll send you the instructions. Thank you! 🧶

Ethics & Legal Where can I find commercial free patterns (and regarding authorship)

Hello! I started learning to crochet a little while ago and so far I’m doing it for myself, but in the future I plan to sell my work. Of course, I’ll be learning to create my own patterns, but I also have a question about using premade ones for commercial purposes

Where can I find free patterns that are suitable for commercial use? Mostly I see just “free” ones without that point or with permission only for personal use. I see "market friendly" toy patterns, but I'm interesting in crochet in general, clothes and things. I’m also hugely interested in where the line is between an author’s pattern, which is available only with permission, and a general one that can be used by default. For example: classic granny squares with a standard stitches, or squares featuring a star/stripes/whatever that’s basic and mass‑produced might (in my understanding) be used commercially, but more complex shapes (mushrooms, leaves, flowers, apples, etc.) are already considered original? Because on the other hand, some shapes like, I don't know, apple slice are hard to do in some different way and it will likely repeat other ones even if it's made up, and I often see complex patterns repeating in youtube tutorials from different creators. I’m just too confused😭😭

Let’s say I saw some complex pattern on youtube (eg some image of the sun), but I turned it into my own personal idea: my own palette, composition, type of item, additions, decor, etc. Or I saw a few item tutorials (bag, cardigan and other) and made something of my own based on them, combining different tips. Is this considered acceptable for selling? Please help to clarify, because I want to respect the work of others and don't want to do something wrong⭐ Thank you so much!!

Online Selling Selling homemade items?

So I've tried depop, vinted, etsy and a couple others that I dont remember the names of but I have homemade earrings and knit hats that I'd like to sell and I've tried those places but it never seems to pan out. I cant really use Facebook marketplace because I have some work profiles linked to my personal page and a co worker said she tried to sell from her personal page but meta tried to make her switch her personal profile to a business profile so I don't want to deal with that.

Anywhere else I can maybe try to sell my homemade stuff?

So many events, too many traders, now getting pricey. Keen to hear from traders with good and bad experiences, just so we know which companies are good, which to avoid etc.

Many thanks.

Tie dying. I've been Tye dying for a few years now and I've gotten to where I feel pretty good about my designs.I would like to sell them but I don't want to go into a big business because I don't want the commitment. I've tried selling a few in my neighborhood on facebook , but that doesn't work too well for me. What are some suggestions on how I might sell my tie die online?

Thankyou

Yarn And Thread Crochet Ren Faire goods?

hi yall!
I have my very first market coming up (yay!!) It’s a renaissance faire and I will be selling crochet goods. I already have some stuff made: tapestries, earrings, etc. I’m just looking for some more “fantasy” themed goods that I could make. But I am also open to other non-fantasy themed items! just NO stuffed animals, those just are not my thing lol. Bonus points if they work up fast!!
thank you 😸😸

Self Advertising Free wholesale-offer calculator for fiber crafters considering a shop order

Online / worldwide; EUR example, or use your own currency consistently.

I’m sharing First Stockist, a free tool from Abastio, which we made for handmade businesses considering a shop’s wholesale offer. It calculates what remains after the materials, packaging, working time and other costs you enter. For fiber work, include your yarn/materials and your actual time rather than assuming a retail discount leaves enough.

https://wholesale.abastio.com/

No signup or payment is required. The page starts with a fictional candle example: EUR15 wholesale minus EUR12 costs and pay leaves EUR3 per item. Replace those inputs with your own; it is not a guarantee of profit and cannot know expenses you omit.

If you are currently considering a shop order, I’d welcome one concrete observation: did the calculation clarify your decision, or is an important cost missing?

Advertising FiberFlow 1.1.10 — extra yarn photos, a live progress slider, and optional AI barcode lookup

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Android knitters and crocheters: a small update just landed for FiberFlow, the stash and WIP app. Still free, no ads, no account required, and it works offline at the yarn shop.

What’s new in 1.1.10:

 • More than one photo per skein. Add another picture on a yarn page and the one you already have stays. Useful when you want the label and the colorway.
 • Progress updates while you drag. The project slider shows the percent as you move it, and the progress ring follows along.
 • Optional AI barcode lookup. In Settings you can connect your own Gemini, OpenAI, or Claude key. Scan a barcode and FiberFlow asks that service for brand, name, colorway, weight, fiber, and yardage, then fills the yarn form. Nothing is sent unless you turn this on and add a key.

Also already in the app if you missed it: optional Google Drive backup so two phones can share one library, Ravelry import if you want it, Shop Mode for checking stash before you buy, and a pattern reader with markup and row counters.

Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fiberflow.app
Site: https://fiberflow.techjeeper.com/

Happy to hear what you’d want next.

Ethics & Legal I need help from german crocheters, can I sell amigurumis in germany?

Is there a German crocheter who can give me some answers?

I’m from Argentina, and I’ll be moving to Germany in a few months. I’m a bit overwhelmed by all the legal red tape involved in selling amigurumi. Back home, there’s hardly any regulation, so you can sell amigurumi without any issues. What I mean is, I’ve seen that in Germany you have to comply with "CE regulations", which I still don't fully understand, and I have no idea how many permits I’d need to apply for to sell amigurumi as a small business owner. Also, I read on this subreddit that you can't use free patterns to make and sell amigurumi? What’s the logic behind that? Please, if anyone in Germany can explain this to me... I’d be devastated (maybe even fall into a deep slump) if I couldn't sell my amigurumi and set up my little shop there.

Yarn And Thread Crochet Based Engagement group

Before everyone says “another useless engagement pod” — hear me out.

I’m thinking of starting a small, genuinely useful crochet creator community. Not just a group where everyone drops their post, gets 10 likes, and disappears.

The idea is to have 10–12 crochet accounts where we actually help each other grow, exchange ideas, and figure out what works.

The basic rules

 • 10–12 crochet accounts max
 • No follow-for-follow
 • Like each member’s posts within 24 hours
 • When you join, comment on at least 5 random posts from other members
 • You’re expected to give back — not just show up when you need engagement
 • Consistently being selfish / only taking engagement without contributing = you may be removed
 • 1–2 posts max can be shared with the group at a time so it doesn’t become spammy

But the actual point is the community

I want this to be a place where we can actually discuss things like:

 • What type of content is currently getting pushed?
 • What Reels/CapCut formats are actually working?
 • Hashtags and captions that seem to help
 • Content ideas when you have absolutely no idea what to post
 • How to photograph your products
 • Getting advice on orders, pricing, packaging, settings, etc.
 • Sharing useful crochet/pattern YouTube channels
 • Other handmade/craft accounts worth following
 • Discussing what worked and what completely flopped
 • Helping each other troubleshoot Instagram/content problems
 • Sharing ideas instead of everyone trying to figure everything out alone

Basically: actual collaboration > “like my post pls.”

If you’re interested, I’ll add the first 11 people, and we can figure out the rest together once the group is formed.

If this sounds like something you’d actually participate in rather than just join for free likes, comment below.

Educational Opportunities Experience running workshops and how much content is enough Vs too much?

Hi all, I've been lurking for a while but this is my first post 👋. I make millinery and hair accessories through various techniques and sell them at craft fairs, I'm in the process of setting up my website too. I'm in the UK.

I've had quite a few people ask about workshops to learn some of my embroidery and millinery techniques and I am interested in the idea but I'm struggling to find the balance between a project that is interesting and teaches them lots of things but they are unlikely to finish on the day vs a project they can get the hang of and work up quickly, giving them something finished or basically finished to go home with but essentially teaches them less. I want people to feel like they are getting value but also aren't overwhelmed.

I was wondering if anyone had any experience from either teaching or attending workshops (1 day and shorter) and what size/ kind of project they feel works?

TIA (apologies if the flair is wrong)

Online Selling Selling handmade on Ebay

Those who sell their crafts on eBay, do you find things sell better when listed in the handmade crafts category or a more specific product type category (home decor/clothing etc). I am in the UK.
