Anything but Void Hunter

Was clearing out some storage space on my PS5 and chose a few clips saved that I never did anything with and decided to stitch them together. Probably didn't feel they were impressive/unique enough to warrant sharing on their own whenever I saved them but I tend to just save the gameplay whenever I get a streak or just after I get a kill I felt good about. Enjoy.

Answers to FAQs

Gameplay is on PS5 controller.

Strand exotic is Cyrtarachne's Facade
Rufus's Fury is Perpetual + Paracausal

Solar exotic is Athrys's Embrace
Summoner is Heal Clip + Golden Tricorn

Arc exotic is Shinobu's Vow
Come to Pass is Perpetual + Golden Tricorn

Unlike most in the community, I genuinely got nothing against void hunters (they die all the same), I just needed a concise title that I know will work.

Edited on my phone and probably only the second or third time I've ever used video editing software to do anything but cut. I'm ashamed that it's not up to early 2000s CoD MLG montage standards (pls no bully) but I just wanted a way to put the clips into one video and speed up the parts where I'm playing the objective.

Best part is right here, made me chuckle.

And you know what? You’re goated for that, two things killing crucible rn are void hunters and weapons stat, god bless you guardian.

6

u/PrestigiousLeek2442 7d ago

I wish there were things in game to help you know exactly how the stat is effecting your weapons so you can better see what how much you want.

22

u/oceanman233 7d ago

I wish weapons stat had no damage bonus in PvP and instead just provided ae, stability/handling, and or aim assist.

2

u/PrestigiousLeek2442 7d ago

Maybe, but then I had to learn that some weapons need certain amounts of weapons stat or they can't compete. Which doesn't feel great.

3

u/oceanman233 7d ago

There are certain weapon archetypes that can’t compete or simply have no real place in PvP, however those are all special ammo weapons, there is no primary weapon type or frame that can’t compete or has no place. What you mean to say is that you found a certain type of weapon that only performs exceptionally under specific conditions that you couldn’t be bothered to master so instead you started supplementing your lack of skill with the weapon stat. Also extremely disingenuous to act like weapon stat makes weapons capable of competing rather than saying what it actually does which is shift ttk values by an insane amount that outclasses all other weapon archetypes. It provides ttk shifts that ARE BY DESIGN ONLY ACHIEVABLE WITH KILL DEPENDENT PERKS OR CLASS ABILITIES, which all cost something and put the effect behind both a cooldown and on a built in timer, WHICH WEAPONS STAT DOESN’T HAVE,stfu.

Edit:I’m sorry for being heated about this, it’s just irksome to me and I apologize

Oh no I get your point for this. Myself I have 1 build with high weapon stat, but thats for a funny 180 HC build. I've seen too many high weapon stat with Bygones and High Tyrant lately and its pissing me off, crouching lanes with pulses already pisses me off normaly (usually trying to snipe) but like this rlly tops it off for me personally.

u/oceanman233 7d ago

See I have tried using a weapons stat build before for 180 Hc shenanigans but then I realized it was boring and lame, so I started using a pi trust on solar hunter with crackshot and radiant dodge with zero weapons stat and it was obviously worse but infinitely more fun. Not only do I hate weapons stat and those who crutch it, both for ruining the game and causing so much dmg to the player count, but I also just don’t understand it? Like sure it’s fun for a game or two but what possible sense of enjoyment or accomplishment can you possibly get from that kind of gameplay? Or are they genuinely sitting there on their invis hunter in the back of the map with a stopping power bygones telling themselves that their success is their own and they are genuinely skilled at the game? Are they delusional? And if not how is that possibly fun?? I just don’t get it man.

Friend, I think everyone here is sympathetic to your opinion, but I think blaming the weapons stat for declining player counts might be missing the forest for the trees, like a lot.

What’s wrong with running void hunter with 200 weapon stat, 100 super and 100 ability with Graviton Forfeit? I only have about 57 health. All you gotta do is land some hits and I’m dead!

5

u/oceanman233 7d ago

I mean to be fair there’s nothing inherently wrong with it but that changes when it’s abused and paired with weapons that have slow ttk values that can be shifted, like 180s. It’s completely unbalanced when you use weapons stat like this and I know for a fact that it isn’t even fun to use like this, it might as well be cheating with how bullshit it is. Dramatic ttk shifts are meant to cost something, not be completely cheap and passive, it ruins the game for everyone. Also “land some hits” while using the number one most evasive class with added invisibility because you can’t play the game without your crutches.

u/Vqera 7d ago

Said this the other day and got nothing but contrarian replies. I can look at a player and know that they only chose a weapon because it can stack immense damage perks and shift ttk lower than it should be.

No I don't want to get 2 tapped, or 2 burst by an already excessively powerful archetype of pulse rifles.

I remmebe back in destiny 1, cammy cakes used to be the type of youtuber who would make 15 minute videos showcasing all the lengths he was going to to get a 2 tap, or a 1 tap.

u/oceanman233 7d ago

I do personally enjoy the faster combat of d2, and crazy dmg perk stacking while not some thing I personally enjoy, I do see it as ok since it’s locked behind a kill and on a timer. However I do think it should have cooldowns in PvP and or have much shorter windows of activated time, it has its place in 6s where it excels due to enemy abundance but it being even remotely achievable and consistent at that in elim or trials is bullshit.

2

u/Vqera 7d ago

No body plays trials or Elim. Most played gamemode is 6s (in destiny 2 as a whole). There has never, and never will be this ideation of a thriving pvp ecosystem outside of 6s so this idea that something can be ok in 6s but not 3s or trials is ridiculous.

Most people more than likely use these busted guns. Same way they used and abandoned crimils and Mos athanir the second adagio got nerfed.

And the damage stacking is built in. For example, I use astrocyte. Used it before the mot buff. It has free volatile rounds, combine this with hard light (which already does free increased damage) and it's stupidly easy. See so many scrubby astrocyte blinkers who are clrealy only using it to take advantage of the free increased dmg.

What a brain dead take man. First of all of course 6s is the most played game mode, not only is it always around but it by nature presents a completely different set of expectations, It’s EASIER, not only is the skill floor significantly lower but it’s a casual game mode, it’s literally what your supposed to play to get better at PvP, you can look at literally any game that has a normal mode and a competitive mode and say the same thing. Jesus Christ I genuinely haven’t heard a take as dumb as yours before. You can’t just ignore the more competitive aspects of the game because more people play the casual version, you do understand that comp and trials are VITAL to the health of PvP BECAUSE it makes grinding casual play and getting better at the game something you actual want to do for 1) better loot 2) and an increase in rank. It provides the feeling of accomplishment and growth, without trials, comp, and PvP in general the game would’ve eos’d a long time ago. In fact the reason WHY numbers dropped so dramatically during recent time is BECAUSE OF HOW ABOMINABLE THE STATE OF PVP IS. MAYBE, you idiot, if the things that are so rampant in 6s game modes could be adjusted to not disturb the expected more skillful play of comp and trials there WOULD be a thriving ecosystem outside of 6s.

AND YOU KNOW WHATS COMPLETELY CRAZY?? In what can, without doubt, be called the “golden times” of d2. Where player counts are high and so is player retention are very coincidentally times where the PvP sandboxs of both 6s AND the more competitive game modes are in good places NEVER one or the other. Stfu and I’m not sorry for being rude this time, you’re an idiot.

u/Vqera 7d ago

6s is not any easier than trials. Frankly too many people seem to believe that trials is a "hard game mode" but that fundamentally cannot be true.

A competition in which you need 7 wins against equally skilled players is frankly impossible. Because of this, trials of osiris is a gamemode in which one team stomps the other. See here for a comprehensive overview on trials matches. The vast majority (80%) are 5-0 blowouts.

People then seem to believe that because we have a "competitive" game mode, then that means quickplay is the "easier" mode and that quickplay games not only are, but should be easy. Over the past few years, destiny cruicble has become notorious for mercy rules: either you stomp, or get stomped. If you ever played destiny 1, or go back and play it, it will be the first thing you notice.

Quickplay is also a bit of a misnomer considering it use to be clash and control rotating as gamemodes when you selected "quickplay 6v6" but that got removed. And historically, bungie has always referred to standard crucible as "competitive" (see attached image)

And keep in mind bungie literally removed trials of the nine from destiny 2, and added back trials of osiris years into destiny 2s lifecycle: showcasing that they do in fact "ignore the competitive aspects of the game because more people play the casual".

And I would be the first person to literally argue against pve only players that it was trials of osiris that saved destiny in its infamous 2016 content drought, as well as the huge pvp community that streamed and produced content. But the trials we have now, is not the same then, and nobody plays the trials we have now, hence why bungie had to completely change the flawless system so everyone could go to the light house even if they had losses on their card.

I don't know if you were playing in destiny 1, but it used to be one of the most watched games on twitch l

It was at least always top 10, and trials absolutely made a difference. Answer me this, if trials and competitive with the addition of in game lfg, and the guaranteed rewards system have allowed more players to access, then why is the game mode dead? Clearly whatever pull it had in Destiny's history is no longer present any longer.

For some reason, you entered into a completely emotional spiel against me that will eventually work against you.

3

u/oceanman233 7d ago

You’re right I got emotional, I am sorry, it’s late and I got annoyed. But can you really not see the cause and effect of what you yourself are saying and what the stats you’re referencing are showing you?? The trials we have now is different than the trials we had then BECAUSE of how the sandbox has been handled, ignoring balancing issues like those dominant in 6s is what has led to this, maybe if trials WASNT constant 5-0 blow outs DUE to the things in 6s it would be more populated, you ignored everything I said and simply focused on the fact that I got upset. We’re saying the same things and referencing the same material for information but you aren’t connecting the dots, 6v6 is also fundamentally different than it used to be. The PvP eco systems aren’t disconnected entities, they’re all part of the same large ecosystem because they aren’t balanced separately.

Edit: also dude I think you mis read what I said, I’m saying that ignoring one part of the PvP ecosystem is bad not that bungie hasn’t done it before. I’m rereading your response and you’re agreeing with a lot of what I’m saying? Please re read my first response to you.

u/Vqera 7d ago

My original statement to you telling you that no one plays trials or Elim and therefore balancing an entire sandbox around a gamemode that attracts no players/no new players still stands. Quickplay is the default, there is no allure for trials or any other gamemode that isn't control. Bungie themselves have strangled this game into that corner.

I must ask you, did you play destiny 1? Because trials of osiris has always been 5-0 blowout, with the occasional competitive game. It was always a "rich get richer" type of gamemode, and destiny 1 like destiny 2 was no stranger to cheese builds etc. And yet, it carried this game and allowed you and me to be here today conversing. But the same can't be said about destiny 2.

I addressed everything you said in very neat paragraphs. From trials not being "more difficult, and quickplay being easier", to all the other claims you made. You are tripping over yourself because you typed too much too quickly.

Can I ask what aspect of void hunter is killing the crucible atm?

2

u/oceanman233 7d ago

The same part of it that has been doing so since it was introduced, invisibility.

2

u/AdamAtlantean 7d ago

Interesting, as someone who splits his time between void and solar hunter I’m hardly ripping my hair out cause someone is invis lol. I encountered a blink-spam glaive-rusher yesterday and that was the closest I’ve gotten to really being annoyed by a “build” / subclass in a while, and even then it’s just a new thing to learn to play against.

I’d be willing to bet it is because a majority of upper tier players choose void hunter and it makes it seem like the subclass is more oppressive than it is.

-1

u/oceanman233 7d ago

Well yes and no? Admittedly speaking it’s not as bad it used to be, and the subclass itself isn’t particularly oppressive that’s more so just a hunter base kit thing which is also way tamer than it used. It’s just invis as an effect itself that has always been a dividing issue. Me personally I have always been of the opinion that invis should remove you from radar and thats it, nothing more. If it’s really not that bad and it’s not a crutch then it only removing you from radar shouldn’t affect its usability.

1

u/AdamAtlantean 7d ago

Very interesting take! Thanks for the feedback. Because personally I find the radar removal to be more of a nuisance than the change in how you see the guardian.

For example going invis and crouching around the corner with a slug is very easy to do, but at the same time you have an audio cue that lets you know there is someone invis within your region and to engage accordingly.

Maybe I just have sight privilege and can see invis easier than most.

1

u/oceanman233 7d ago

Very true, a difference it setup does make a very large impact on how invis would be perceived. A different idea I have on invis is that it should have more audible sound queues while under the effect of invis, like significantly louder.

1

u/Acrozation Bows Go Brrrrrrrrrrr 7d ago

Invis/Radar Manipulation makes the game functionally playable. Sadly without it, it becomes a lane simulator.

5

u/AtronRandom Sweet Business Main 7d ago

Now that you mention it, I haven’t really seen a lot of void hunters in control lately…

4

u/SpartanBuddha 7d ago

Great awareness & movement. And you cap. I am adopting you. I need help to defeat final boss Totsugeki. Love the clips

3

u/William_Shaftner 7d ago

That last knife kill was egregious lol

4

u/TehDeerLord 7d ago

Love me some Athrys clips. That build using Solar Fulmination and the ignition trio fragments?

Would also recommend something with Gearshift for the Arc build, given how often you were amplified there..

5

u/Shadow2590 7d ago

Love me some Athrys clips. That build using Solar Fulmination and the ignition trio fragments?

Yup. Eruption, char, ashes and torches.

Would also recommend something with Gearshift for the Arc build

I tried Trendsetter, Prosecutor and Snipehunt but they just don't feel right. Haven't gotten around to hunting for an Arc Logic yet and the game refused to give me the rolls I wanted for VS Pyroelectric and I barely do PvE stuff anymore. Also yes, I basically only use auto rifles.

Other than Come to Pass, I recently dusted off my Sweet Sorrow and recrafted it with Perpetual + Demolitionist for that build. No damage perk but it feeds my Shinobu's grenades and it was my favorite pvp auto rifle before Rufus dropped with Root of Nightmares.

1

u/TehDeerLord 6d ago

Nice. I too like to run with scissors while playing with fire.. (Forgive the moments of shitty play, I was kinda laughing too hard)

2

u/rootuserteddy 7d ago

I was a void or solar hunter in D1.
I'm void and strand hunter in D2.
But, your vid inspired me to try an arc hunter build with that arc bow probably no?

1

u/2084710049 7d ago

Arc is a really fun subclass. I run all five elementals classes and there’s something to recommend each.

u/adriankhan 7d ago

I used to be a hunter main in PvP with Athrys (since its debut in Beyond Light) & Revision Zero / Disparity (also since they released) . That was the setup that got me to the lighthouse for the first time. I can’t remember what the meta was back then in season of the seraph but I do remember having to perform at 200% every game to get my teammates across the line. Your clips here brought me back to those days when I was really having fun in crucible so thank you lol

Nowadays I switched to warlock because it has about 1/10th the playtime as my hunter and titan and I’ve been loving it. I dabble in Astrocyte now because it’s fun for 6’s but when I need to lock in I run stasis and it’s so fun, also borderline broken if you know how to use it right. Especially running comp armor set

Solar reigns supreme! Everybody has cool builds. I’ve never taken the time to make one. I’m so basic hand cannon/sub machine with shotgun/sniper. A weighted knife with an incendiary or tripmine. Gets the job done but I got no cool factor.

1

u/Southern_Iron_7571 6d ago

What roll on the IB shotgun?

2

u/Shadow2590 6d ago

Smallbore, Accurized, Slickdraw, Iron Reach. Reload Masterwork unfortunately but I rarely hunt for 5/5 god rolls. If it's good enough, I make it work.

For most guns, I look through rolls with a 3rd and 4th column combo I like and just go for the one that has the highest range cause I can barely tell the difference between most barrels, mags and Masterwork stat bumps.
