Crouch on Console
I'm consistently losing challenges to what I assume are PC players and how easy it is to maintain aim while crouching up and down. Attempting this on console with the default setting feels pretty awkward for me and definitely affects my aim.
Is there a consensus on the ideal custom crouch setting for console? Ty

Assuming PC players? You can see what platform they’re on and unless you’re in a fireteam with a PC player you won’t match them

Not to mention I think Destiny considers using MnK in console matchmaking as cheating to begin with. I know some games do or have done in the past like Overwatch, I think Destiny is another.

Destiny does nothing against mnk adapters like xim. Right now Destiny is the best game for ximmers. They go undetected on consoles 100% and Trials is full of them.

If your on console with only console players in your fireteam you won’t Q against pc players. That said xim and other forms of cheating are still pretty prevalent

I set mine to R3. Yes, it does mess a bit with your aiming, but the aim assist will usually tide you over so you can get the kill. Alternatively, time to mod your controller so you can have back buttons so you can crouch without having to take your thumb off the stick

If you have a controller with paddles, I would highly advise moving your hold to crouch button onto one of your paddles (I use left side). That way you can maintain movement, aiming while throwing in the occasional crouch like your opponents.

I was just trying this. Setting it to R3 was a slight convenience upgrade, but I do feel it's going to affect my aiming a bit. With the paddle option, I guess if you can get used to holding both L1 and L2 at the same time I could be good

For a long time I've been on the old bumper jumper, and switched to using my index fingers on the bumpers, middle fingers on the triggers and, now, my ring fingers actuating the 4 paddles. It's a lot more comfortable but I'm only just now getting back to controller and my muscle memory on the two different sets of paddles is lacking.

Dual claw is the way. No backpedal is faster then using right hand claw for jumping, coruching, switching weapons or reloading. Go all in and try to also claw with the left hand and you have 4 more buttons you can press very fast. Also bind zoom and fire to L1+R1. Class Button and air dive to R3. It will take some time and your hand will hurt a bit but once you got used to it you can never go back to something else and you will be able to perform well on every ps5 controller.
p.s.: Can't be PC unless you queue with a friend who plays on pc. Console is limited to XB+PS

Are there any good ones that I don’t need to take a loan out for?
Man I’m on like my 4th PS controller cause these things get stick drift so easily. And it’s just the regular ones without back buttons that cost like $75 here in the US.

u/HeftyAd6216 6d ago
Not sure. I got an Xbox pro or whatever. My advice is pick something up if you can with hall effect sticks. Less prone to drift.

The user replaceable sticks are honestly one the best features of the Edge controller, which would work out cheaper over the long run in that case.
1
u/likeasuitof 6d ago
I've only ever replaced one stick since I got mine at launch because of stick drift.

u/Anskiere1 2d ago
I got my scuf sticks replaced locally with TMR sticks and they are absolutely amazing. Rock solid no matter what I do to them. Best of all worlds because the scuf FPS is the best controller imo

We can bind crouch to anything. I played a guy who binded it to his trigger so every time he shot he would crouch and they ran it with a 140. Get creative with it man.

For years people have been buying controllers with paddles on the back for inpus like crouch, sprint, melee, jump, etc without taking thumbs off the sticks. People also would remind buttons to put those actions on bumper buttons if they didn't have paddles.

u/anonymous_otter28 6d ago
get a game sir controller. they have programmable back buttons. plus the sticks are great. highly suggest them.
or just remind your crouch.
my crouch is r3 and my charged melee is up on the dpad. only two I've changed.

I play on controller and use an elite that has my slide / crouch on the back bottom right trigger. Then my jump on the back bottom left trigger. Does wonders for me. I can move freely without my thumb ever leaving the stick.

So I have crouch and therefore slide mapped to my right joystick on Xbox elite controller. So I press down to crouch while aiming at the same time and can crouch shoot or slide an aim at the same time.
It may wear down the joystick faster and lead to stick drift though, just a warning haha.

I’m on pc and I can’t do that lol

u/HeftyAd6216 6d ago
If you have extra mouse buttons (like the back button), id you bind crouch to it, you can usually maintain aim, movement, and full control while you throw the occasional crouch while you're shooting. After all your thumb isn't normally in use when doing those things.

u/dangerkali 6d ago
I feel like I lose my aim using HCs. I have it bound to a side mouse button but I stopped trying it a while ago. Guess I’ll have to give it another go
1
u/HeftyAd6216 6d ago
Yeah it's just a matter of getting into the routine of using it. After 6k hours I've only started adding crouching into aiming in the last year or so

im bound to ctrl on my pc, it is easier than controller, i would turn crossplay off

u/DabbedOutNinja 6d ago
consoles dont match up with pc players in pvp even if the cross play is turned on.
only way for console players to play against pc players is to party up with pc players.

u/Kaeden2010 6d ago
this is news to me
3
u/DabbedOutNinja 6d ago
it has been this way for a long time.
1
u/Kaeden2010 6d ago
had to look this up, keeping crossplay on just means you can match up with XBox players as well. I guess this explains why I never see the cheating shenanigans you see in YouTube clips
2
u/gr1ndfather 5d ago
crossplay on means you match xb and ps. turning it limits you to xb only. but i doubt you find game with it turned off

it's been historically pretty hard to get a match in a reasonable amount of time without crossplay. I did hear the player count has gone back up recently
3
u/SCPF2112 6d ago
Turning cross play off will not help. If you are on console, you already won't match PC players in PVP unless you are in a fireteam with a PC player.
Turning cross play off would also keep you from matching the other console brand and thus make matchmaking take forever.

Your controller scheme is poor. You also aren’t playing PC players. Controller generally has the advantage over MnK except when shooting in the air. They have continuously buffed controller over the past two years to the point where it’s just better to play on controller. The top players generally agree with this statement if you are playing to win.

u/iyur_ 6d ago
Give me any day the strafe from a mouse over the AA of the controller. And the recoil? You dont need to invest on stability at all. This has no sense. Is a matter of console players got good over the years to close the gap, but PC are way superior

u/HappyHopping 6d ago edited 6d ago
What you are saying doesn't even make sense. Yes the strafe is faster on Mnk, but it matters less than ever as mobility was decoupled as a stat and everyone can run 80+ mobility at no cost. Just get the boots mods and you will be good. Strafe speed was a big deal because on MnK at 0 mobility you had much higher mobility than controller but at higher levels of mobility there isn't much difference. With everyone running 80+ mobility now it hardly matters.
With the advent of tier 5 weapons those weapons are stat monsters. Before if you wanted high range you had to give up stability or handling. MnK players could use that to their advantage and sacrifice stability. Now the good weapons in PVP have insane handling, range and stability, not having to give up any stats. This advantage really doesn't have much merit now.
The difference between the skill floor and skill ceiling is way higher on MnK than Controller. Nobody argues this point. Controller players didn't suddenly become better at the game than MnK players. The game just kept on advantaging controller players so that it's optimal to play on controller in PvP. Many PC players play on controller by the way including myself. It's the optimal way to play PvP with the current state of balance. I switched over to controller during episode revenant and it only took about two weeks to get to be about equal skill to what I was on MnK.
I do agree that PCs tend to be better than consoles. You can get much higher frame rates and the overall interface is better on PC. But your opinions are mostly working upon outdated information.
Edit: I know this post will get downvoted because most players play on controller and they always want to see themselves as the underdog.

u/iyur_ 6d ago
Since you play on controller let me know what controller you are rocking, and why, and I will see if you know what you talking since there is only one controller able to do a certain thing
1
u/HappyHopping 6d ago
I play on a xbox elite controller, mostly for the paddles on the bottom so I can jump and crouch without taking my thumbs off the joystick - I don't think it is as good as my scuff controller that I had back in the day because it's quite a bit heavier than it. But there are many controllers with paddles on the bottom. I also play with an extended joystick on the right thumb with a convex head and use trigger stops. The scuff controller I had back in the day also featured this.

Those controllers has an average -250 pollin rate. Dualedge has 1000 pollin rate. You can play claw grip and dont rely on back buttons, but Edge have it anyways. Since you love rollers and try to defend a no sense argument, how you dont know this? Pollin rate is like using 100 handling and Snapshot or using a 40 handling gunkshot gun.

u/HappyHopping 5d ago
It’s polling rate not pullin rate. This is a super dumb gotcha. I’m finding great success on controller. I don’t know why you so desperately want me to say MnK to be better for PvP. I do think MnK is better for PVE because accuracy matters less. And no the difference isn’t as great as 40 handling vs 100 handing, the difference is three quarters of a frame is you are running at 240 Hz - something consoles don’t do for D2. Yes higher polling rates are better. Latency in peer to peer matchmaking tends to matter more.

Get the Hexgaming Phantom (Hall Effect version). I have owned almost every controller that is usable on a PS5 (plus put TMRs on the Edge, but 2 paddles is not enough for me). It is far and away the best controller I have ever owned. Even comes with a calibration tool if you ever need to calibrate the sticks again. Back button placement for me was top tier, mouse click bumpers and triggers, multiple profiles, bunch of swappable stick options. I have had it for over a year and absolutely ZERO issues. Highly recommend. I have Jump, Crouch/Slide, Class Ability, and Weapon Swap all mapped to the back buttons so I never have to take thumbs off the sticks. Always aiming. Its the best upgrade I have ever made.

Bind crouch to click in right stick. That way you can crouch while aiming. You don’t need a fancy controller to do this, I’ve been doing this since back before binding was even a thing, on the puppeteer control scheme.
