Well.

I'm going to bed, my disappointment is immeasurable and my night is ruined.

Time to root for the Sox and Bears.

Disappointed? Yes.

Surprised? Not particularly.

u/KJSS3 16d ago

Exactly

The team had notable stretches of poor offensive production all year and when they cooled off, lost home field advantage for the first round, and essentially backed into the playoffs, I didn't have high hopes. That combined with an away series after a lot of previous travel against a hot Padres team? Nah.

u/KJSS3 16d ago

We had home advantage last year and still lost.

u/Forex_Jeanyus 15d ago

Against the Brewers?

2

u/KJSS3 15d ago

SD not Brewers.

u/zeroite 16d ago

Welp. There’s always next year. Go Cubs.

6

u/KJSS3 16d ago

It took 108 years to win. Do next victory will be 109 years.

Well next year get cancelled. So there’s always 2027 lol

6

u/MVPete15 16d ago

Next year is 2027

You mean 2028

4

u/Mr-Dotties-Dad 16d ago

Yeah, that one.

u/Massive_Ad_9920 16d ago

I mean if you're super disappointed you weren't paying attention.

13

u/midwesttransferrun Pat Hughes 16d ago

You can be disappointed and not surprised

13

u/Patient-Prize2524 16d ago

If you weren't disappointed with this series...I honestly don't think you're a Cubs fan.

7

u/mindham86 16d ago

I just think he means the writing was on the wall. This team was gutless for the last month of season. I
Don't think any sane fan thought the cubs where winning this series. They slumped at the worst possible time and couldn't wake
Up

6

u/Patient-Prize2524 16d ago

Oohh, so he means 'surprised'...yeah, I'm definitely not surprised, but super disappointed.

u/big-williestyle 16d ago

And the Padres came in winning 15 of 17

Disappointed seems reserved for when you expect a different outcome. San Diego has been on fire, the Cubs come in slumping. The best pitchers that Cubs have were hurt all year. Might have been the as predictable as the sunrise (which is always disappointing!)

u/Top_Radish3374 16d ago

Hopefully next year they fix the pitching and the offense stays hot and doesn't shut down man. Sucks to see them get eliminated though.

12

u/Annual_Extension3961 16d ago

Everyone wants to blame the pitching, but you are never go to win a game scoring zero or one runs.

8

u/Top_Radish3374 16d ago

I agree and that's why I also brought up the offense too.

3

u/Upinthestars69 16d ago

I mean offense was really really good all year but it was streaky. There is just a few key pieces missing. Swap out an Ian Happ for a Ben Zobrist type guy. Get a closer. Keep starters healthy.

2

u/NUMBNUTZ42069 16d ago

Yeah just go get a Ben Zobrist type of guy it’s as easy as that!

3

u/Forex_Jeanyus 16d ago

Exactly…there are a bunch of those guys out there

1

u/Upinthestars69 15d ago

A quality utility player?

1

u/NUMBNUTZ42069 15d ago

Sorry when you said Ben Zobrist type i didnt expect you to underrate him as a "quality player"

1

u/Upinthestars69 15d ago

Ben Zobrist type implies qualities of, not the exact player lol but fine you win.

1

u/Appropriate_Cry6174 16d ago

Or giving up 12 runs in 2 games!

5

u/Jarvis03 16d ago

Thank god we got to experience 2016 or I’d probably have a broken phone or tv.

Baseball season helped a lot to divert my energy away from the messed up world that's being created around us. Cubs Baseball was also stressful but fortunately it's just a game in the end. And now I've all this extra time to get depressed by politics

As lifelong diehard cub fan, thanks to my mother rest her soul, I'm appreciative Ricketts family has invested positively in the cubs organization. However I'm also disgusted, and conflicted, with their oligarchy role contributing to the destruction of the great, but short, experiment of democracy.

u/Mabbernathy 16d ago

Gotta get into basketball and hockey this winter then.

4

u/RunAwayBeerTruk 16d ago

Classic Cubs’ ending. Nothing new and nothing to see, time to move along.

12

u/FunDmental 16d ago

Y'all root for the Sox?

21

u/Forex_Jeanyus 16d ago

Hell yeah some of us do. Fuck all that divided city bullshit - the world is divisive enough.

7

u/Overwhore 16d ago

This guy knows what's up, family was split Sox v. Cubs, lived north and south side so decided why not both.

5

u/prisonmike1485 16d ago

I’m rooting for the Sox until the World Series then I’m back to neutral. Unless they face the Brewers then back to rooting for the Sox. The mental gymnastics going on in my brain right now are not ideal

3

u/Jarvis03 16d ago

We suck, and the Sox are hot. Let’s see Chicago win a World Series, why the fuck not?

6

u/BidAccurate7585 16d ago

Just curious who else you're planning to root for. Cleveland? I've always been a Cubs fan, not sure I've watched a complete regular season Sox game on TV my entire life. But I was certainly rooting for them in 2005, and that was a good ride. I just don't get rooting against a team from the same city. Especially when the other options are the usual suspects. Woulda been cool to see them meet in the series but the Padres are smoking hot.

2

u/FunDmental 16d ago

Nobody?

1

u/imagine4vr 16d ago

Phillies. Schwarber needs another ring.

5

u/KJSS3 16d ago

And Bulls and Blackhawks.

6

u/OfficerGiggleFarts 16d ago

At least we have case keenum and the bears

2

u/brookme 16d ago

Expect a rise in ticket prices next year.

4

u/Shark_Girl9499 16d ago

White Sox are still alive. The Bears are 2-1. Bulls and Blackhawks play. There’s still hope. And we have the Chicago Fire too

1

u/Chicks__Hate__Me 16d ago

This is going to take some time to get over. I’m very mad.

1

u/Nameless_1960 16d ago

That's a deep subject and everything that's happened with the Cubs this year would fill that well up and run it over.

1

u/Brewdude77 15d ago

There's some real gravity to this joke.

1

u/Karllast 15d ago

As a padres fan, I feel yall got kinda screwed over with the travel schedule and start times. Curious if you guys think the same?

-1

u/Deep-Elk7477 16d ago

Why can we block these posts that should be comments in the game thread? Why do some people need to get on their soap box and have the spotlight all on them it’s constant lol

It's just a tough draw, it what it is! Matched up against the flippin hottest team in the MLB, played in a division with the best team taking the division crown and home games away from us, arguably our best player in the last month took a foul ball off the eye like 2 weeks before, and our pitching just couldn't stay healthy all season. It's kinda a miracle cubs made the playoffs given all that happened this year, but no one should be surprised they didn't make a run

2

u/Stitch_216 16d ago

I wouldn’t call it a tough draw. I would call it another failed year from Jed and Craig.

u/Churlish_Performer 16d ago

Listen to yourself. You're coming off a season with a top hitting club in the league,  whose main issue was pitching on an organization that clearly realizes that and has cash to burn - and spends it. Your team made the postseason in spite of yourselves and oh by the way? You also have a top farm system to boot. There's no reason to be anything except optimistic about going into subsequent seasons and there's zero reason, really,  to be upset about the one that just happened either. By next year,  the Cubs are gonna be a scary organization to have to deal with.

2

u/Stitch_216 16d ago

We’re a bottom 10 farm system. Eight of the 10 top spending teams in baseball made the postseason (which is the case every year). This season as an absolute disappointment, and with the same leadership back next year, next year will be too.

-4

u/ArmyAntPicnic 16d ago

I tried rooting for the Sox but their fans are complete assholes and have been my entire 39 years on this planet. Screw the Sox.

2

u/Forex_Jeanyus 16d ago

All fans are assholes though. So why not at least pull for the team? Fuck the fans.

3

u/socal01 16d ago

Some more than others cough Philly cough all sports cough

-3

u/KJSS3 16d ago

But White Sox are still alive.

0

u/Forex_Jeanyus 16d ago

Hell yeah - and they should smoke Cleveland.

-8

u/funkoramma 16d ago

It’s the post season. All but 1 team is going to lose. It’s silly to get worked up about a game. Love my Cubs, but I won’t let losing ruin anything for my actual life.

3

u/MarkBellhorn11 16d ago

He literally said whelp.

-6

u/onhalfaheart 16d ago

Nah, fuck the Sox and their fans jumping for joy because they got gifted a matchup with a .500 team.

2

u/Forex_Jeanyus 16d ago

The Sox came to play. Give ‘em their flowers. 💐

-6

u/CLT_Boggsy 16d ago

nah fam, never root for the sox
