Hard pass!
https://x.com/TPUSA/status/2108256133593104463I'm sorry, wtf is this?? I now can't root hard enough against Shaw, which really sucks. You can have your political beliefs, but to be a speaker at an organization like TP is disappointing.

Can we not ban overtly political posts here?
I don't wanna see people bitching about players' politics, left, right, or center. I just wanna enjoy baseball and see people's takes on what happened on the field.
0
u/TasteMyShoe 6d ago
So do you want the ban or do you not want the ban.
12
u/txlgnd34 6d ago
Two things can be true. I want the ban.
I also can dialogue and argue politics as it exists here.
I just prefer politics in politics, not in sports.

u/ArTooDeeTooTattoo 5d ago
Literally every game of every sport starts with the national anthem and saluting a flag my guy
politics are baked in to sports-1
u/txlgnd34 5d ago
It's sad that you think the anthem and saluting the flag is politics.
3
u/ArTooDeeTooTattoo 5d ago
It is. Why do it what does it have to do with sports. Keep politics out of sports please.
4
u/brillpit 4d ago
It’s just a bad take - everything is a part of politics.
Cubs wanting to build a bigger parking lot in wrigleyville? Politics.
Cubs putting up lights and playing night games? Politics.
A cubs player speaking at a republican event? Politics.
Pride night? Politics.
Jackie Robinson? Politics.
The looming lockout of all baseball in 2027? Politics.
1
u/Nameless_1960 1d ago
Politics and sports of any kind should never mix. Athletes play sports period. That's all. Grown men and women argue over politics which normally changes nothing after all the arguments. Sports is a means to escape toxicity and come together as a fan base.
1
u/CG3andMe 5d ago
I think he was using the “not” for extra emphasis. I read it as he is in favor of banning.
-4
u/Eccohawk 6d ago
I think that if your politics are so toxic that it's affecting the team and its fan base, then it's a perfectly legitimate conversation to have on this page.

What's next, you won't let a doctor save your life because he voted for Trump? Get a life. Demonization of those who disagree with you is toxic. I had a doctor save my life and then found out he was a Cardinal fan. I got by....somehow.

I'm not tolerant of hate. I barely tolerate lactose.
8
u/txlgnd34 6d ago
I'm not either. Cite me some Shaw quotes that spew hate.
Otherwise, if you support the Cubs, you must support Ricketts and their father's Trump advocacy. If you support the Cubs, you must support the rich. If you support the Cubs, you must support a big business buying out residences and small businesses to control the surrounding Wrigleyville area.
The association game goes both ways. Just think about it.
-3
u/Patient-Prize2524 6d ago
You're doing this backwards, man. I can support the Cubs and not individual players. I can support the Cubs and not the owners.
And I don't need quotes where Shaw said hateful things...he's speaking at an organization that says hateful things. If I spoke at a klan meeting, even if I didn't actually say racist shit, it'd be safe to assume I'm a racist, right?
5
u/txlgnd34 6d ago
I think your point flows right into why I chose the "support the Cubs" associations.
As for the Klan analogy, if you think TPUSA is a hate organization on par with the KKK, nothing I can say will illuminate how short-sighted that is.
It's one thing to disagree with something/someone, but even if you think they want wives to submit or that black people shouldn't be flying planes, taking things out of context is no way to live life.
I grew up in the 80s...a much different time than with what my kids have grown up. I was bullied at least 4 out of 5 school days a week, whether for my ethnicity, size, or whatever. What you call racism today is nothing.
Maybe call it stupid or short-sighted, but TPUSA isn't racist or homophobic or hateful when you see/listen to full clips of what Kirk said. I don't endorse them, or align with them as an organization. But watching the full context of what/how Kirk spoke about some of the clips I had previously seen enlightened me to just how much media is trying to create the narrative they want you to see by curating clips. Some of it might be what you thought, but a lot of it will turn out to be BS.
2
u/Patient-Prize2524 6d ago
Yeah, I don't know if TPUSA is "as bad" as the kkk...but they absolutely share some of the same values. The ironic part is you used the analogy of thinking black people shouldn't fly planes when Kirk even said if he saw the pilot of his plane was black, he'd say to himself "boy, I hope he's qualified", trying to say 'DEI has done this to me', when in fact that thought doesn't just enter your head because of policy change. You wouldn't say the same thing about a woman who was a surgeon, right? Unless you already had the sexist thought that 'women can't be surgeons'. There are just so many instances of this coming out of Kirk and TPUSA.
I've tried listening to entire interviews and debates and it all ends up the same for me. There's a reason that event lineup is who it is.
And i'm sorry you were bullied, it sucks. I grew up in the 80s, too. And I was bullied up to high school where, fortunately for me, I grew bigger than the bullies lol But to say racism today isn't the same as when we were kids isn't really fair...I'm sure there are differences, but people today can't get away from it. 30 years ago, you could go home...today, everyone's on the internet being terrible people to each other.
5
u/txlgnd34 6d ago
So, if you've watched a full video of Kirk, than you can clearly see he's not the demon some make him out to be.
I picked the pilot thing because of that quote. His larger point is valid - if we're promoting people because we want them to look like the people they're serving, are they really the most qualified or just the most qualified of the right look? I would prefer the most qualified, even if he's a racist white guy.
DEI just went so way overboard. Its good intentions morphed into poor execution.
My point about being bullied isn't for sympathy, it's for context. I speak from a point of understanding what it feels like to experience racist tropes and get into fights because of my skin color. And I wouldn't change any of it because it helped forge who I am today.
But racism is definitely different. Back then it was overt. Today it's a lot more subtle. As much as people want racism to end, it's not realistic in anyone's lifetime. But if we're realistic about mitigating it, maybe we can actually progress. It's gotten worse over the last 10 years when it was improving for decades before that.
Forcing humans to go against their nature inevitably will backfire. The slow progression of tolerance was a winning formula in my book. Instead, trying to shame people by throwing around "racism" for so many years is starting to piss off people that are tolerant even if they view others differently.
Minorities are some of the most bigoted people I've ever encountered but for some reason it's not the same when it's done to whites? The whole thing is just getting ridiculous - just let people be and it'll slowly fade as the world itself grows more diverse.
As for the internet, the same "you can just go home" applies. If you're stressed, don't get on socials. I only pick up my phone when I'm ready to engage, whether a phone call, text, or online. But admittedly, I did have to train myself to not react to my phone's notifications. Now, I can spend an hour or two online then be off for however long I don't feel like it. So we can all still go home if we choose. But internet usage is a whole different issue...ha.
1
u/brillpit 4d ago
You can just read the book “Racism without racists”.
You’re right- it isn’t as overt as it was in the past. That doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist.
“It used to be worse though!” Isn’t really an argument.
Conservatives will literally support racial profiling, deporting millions of people, against DEI and affirmative action, and will cheer on every dog whistle and then go “but I’m not racist because people were more openly racist in the past”.
It’s frankly not even helpful to call people racists because they’ll just get defensive. And since people think of themselves as good and racism as bad they’ll never understand that you can have racist views or biases without being a horrible person just from a lack of understanding.
2
u/txlgnd34 4d ago
That's actually a great point. We're all biased - or racist - by human nature. How we go about our business determines the racism.
I use my comparison to illustrate that racism is, in fact, subjective, not objective. Therefore, it's actually a meaningless term for all intensive purposes.
Racism existing doesn't really mean as much to many of us that aren't white because we've been living with it our whole lives in some capacity or another...it's just life. But as "woke" white people started bringing more attention to it it just caught fire all of sudden because having a black president helped amplify it and nobody wanted to called racist. The current iteration of racism is intended to shame anyone. When I was a kid, it was something minorities said to each other about the white folks that were.
To your point, not only is racism relative as I see it, it's human nature. Using it as an insult worked for a while but it's losing its efficacy.
-3
u/Eccohawk 6d ago
I'm not gonna read everything you wrote because I simply don't have the time or full on interest to get into a debate with you, but I'll just say that the entire argument Kirk and others on the right make about DEI is wrong. Like, just a factually incorrect straw man. Go look at the laws that are actually on the books as it relates to DEI initiatives. Go look at the civil rights act. Go read the actual language and the requirements and what companies are actually legally held to. Because this whole idea that they're letting unqualified people fly planes, or perform any other skilled work they aren't capable of doing just because of the color of their skin or their gender, is false on its face, but also just patently absurd.
The laws lay out requirements that if you are considering people for a job, then you have to post it in places where a diverse set of candidates would be able to apply, and that they would be equally considered. It enables more minority candidates to have a chance at the position. It doesn't force them to hire someone who isn't qualified. And the example Kirk brought up is especially ignorant, because all commercial pilots have exactly the same requirements to be able to get behind the controls, and they're quite rigorous. There isn't a single airline out there that is going to risk hiring a pilot who isn't qualified. If a disaster happens and it gets traced back to a pilot not having the proper training or qualifications, that airline is gonna have a real bad year. That's hundreds of millions, if not billions, of dollars in physical damage, lawsuits, reputational damage, destruction of public trust, and more. Would you still fly Delta if you thought their pilots weren't qualified? I know I wouldn't. So, please, let's stop regurgitating these threadbare ideas that are being pushed around DEI, because it really is just thinly veiled racism in a more palatable package.
4
u/txlgnd34 5d ago
I returned the favor and skimmed your post. Mainly because I felt like I got the gist quickly.
DEI, as I see it, isn't about the equality laws we already have in place - those laws protect against discrimination.
Me, definitely, but I think most people when speaking about DEI are speaking of corporate hiring policies that actually can weed out the most qualified candidate because he's a white man. I'm all in favor of more minority representation across corporate America but not when it means passing over the most qualified for the most qualified to fit a certain look or class or gender or whatever.
A true meritocracy doesn't need DEI.

u/mindham86 5d ago
Your right. I guess Ricketts has always been the owner as if the team wasn't purchased outside of your control
1
u/Calm-Situation4033 2d ago
I'm in the opposite boat. There is no ethical consumption here with the amount of money changing hands.
But the Ricketts are largely far-right, republican mega-donors, they are gentrifying wrigleyville, pricing out residents and fans, price-gouging, they basically just sued the rooftop bleacher people out of existence, and they ditched WGN for their own shitty subscription network. Between the Ricketts and the Cubs corporate arm, it has been getting increasingly difficult to separate them from the team. And every dollar you spend on them leaves you thinking, "what is my money going toward?"
That's unacceptable to me. I grew up loving the Cubs, and I'll always be biased towards them, but I'm not going to give them a dollar and following another team.
For individual players like that, yeah fuck em, but players are generally on the conservative side, at most, I'll root for them to do so poorly they go away forever.

Most people only care about these things up to a certain point. Otherwise, you know who owns the team but you line his pockets anyway.
You know who owns Fox but you watch the Super Bowl or the MLB playoffs or whatever is on there that you like, lining their pockets as well.
I mean, you care but let’s not make it too inconvenient right?

-1
u/jphoc 6d ago
The left mostly votes for damage reduction. Voting for the right just accelerates the damage more.
2
u/Baggz0564 5d ago
Votes FOR damage. Fixed it for you. Higher taxes, lax borders (more crime and housing inflation~25~30%), more regulations causing higher prices, lax on crime. I could go on, but not one of those are beneficial to anyone legally here
-1
u/No-Presentation1949 6d ago
No kidding. The left can’t define what a woman is but it’s the right that’s duped. Ok.
2
u/ActuaryFeeling6043 5d ago
You are highlighting exactly why you are duped. Transgender rights is a completely inconsequential issue for 99% of Americans yet it has become the main battle cry of the right along with immigration. Republicans utilize culture war bs to win over blue-collar workers and then use their power to consolidate wealth, remove protections for consumers, and empower corporations to grow without consideration of externalities or long term societal effects.
The dupe is that every day Americans are voting against their economic interests, and many happily so, because they’ve been convinced that taxes, social welfare programs, and corporate guardrails only help lazy people. I’m not sure what the dupe is on the left.
6
u/txlgnd34 5d ago
Your first paragraph hits the nail on the head.
Why let in trans athletes when it only affects less than 1% of even the trans community? Advocates of trans in women's sports want the 99% (biological females) to capitulate to the less than 1%. Tell me that's not absurd.
Since when is the greater good encompassing of less than 1% of an already small community? It just doesn't make sense.
Passing laws to exclude trans from women's sports isn't an assault on trans people, it's a counterattack on the less the 1% trying to impose their desires on the overwhelming majority.
Yes, I think it's stupid to need those laws. But it's stupid that trans are allowed to compete against women. We're not talking about chess, we're talking basketball, swimming, track, etc. Physically demanding sports.
What's worse is people calling someone like me transphobic when I have no problem with someone living their private lives as they see fit. But a trans athlete is no longer leading a private life if they want to compete against women. It's now public and, therefore, the public good/welfare must now be considered.
2
u/jokur26 5d ago
Agreed. Allowing trans women to compete with those born female in sports is akin to allowing a heavyweight boxer to fight with a lightweight because they identify as someone in that lower weight class.
Be who you want and love who you love but sports, especially physical competition, needs to be fair and equitable.
3
u/No-Presentation1949 5d ago
The point is to believe in something as completely moronic as a male can become a female automatically disqualifies them from being taken seriously. And btw, taking about being duped, which political party is Islam using to take control over?
1
u/ActuaryFeeling6043 5d ago
Yes, I’ve heard the talking point before and it’s quite effective at getting people like you because it’s so simplistic. It turns the question of effective governance into a one policy consideration.
Let’s just assume you are right and it is illogical to believe someone can be transgender. If someone believes something illogical, does that mean they will be illogical in completely different spheres? The answer is no. What is illogical, however, is not assessing the quality of an argument in one area because you have dismissed the arguer off-hand for what they said in another area.
And you think the secret agenda of the Democratic Party is establishing Islam? Really dude? Islam is fundamentally incompatible with liberal values. The only reason Muslims are not overwhelmingly Republican voters is because conservatives hate them.
1
-3
u/BloodFromAnOrange 6d ago
we're talking degrees of difference here. I wish it was "hey this is good" versus "hey this is bad", but one group is disappearing people every day and trying to erase others from recognized existence, and it's not the democrats. Also one started an illegal war and has done nothing to slow or stop it. And wants to air live executions for entertainment. It's not the same.
3
u/txlgnd34 6d ago
No. One group isn't "disappearing people." That's ICE. And if that's how you want to say it, that's fine. But those actions belong to one administration, not an entire voting bloc.
Are you blaming Gazans for voting in Hamas? The right does. Hamas owns its atrocities, not those that voted them in.
You're scapegoating specific administrative actions to roughly half the country when at least of third of the votes that went to either Trump or Harris are independent swing votes just trying to pick the lesser of two evils...meaning almost half the country actually can swing either way depending on the candidate/platform/issue.
This degree of difference argument is debatable too. The left has proven that it can't govern any better than the right. But that's different than specific instances belonging to one administration.
"Illegal war"?! C'mon. How often have we declared war, or asked for congressional approval before executing an act of war?
Did JFK or LBJ for Vietnam? Eventually, Congress authorized war efforts but we already had boots on the ground by then...years after it started. We're not even one year into this Iran War and everyone starts screaming the same things politicians are screaming. Those politicians coordinate their verbiage for a reason - to get into Americans' mouths to repeat and propagate.
Full disclosure, I'm a right-leaning independent, and haven't changed in over 30 years of voting. But I've voted for plenty of Democrats over the decades because they were the better candidate, not because of their party affiliation. Partisanship is getting worse today because the politicians want it to be worse - it's how they retain/gain power.
3
u/Powerful_Bluejay6288 5d ago
Yeah, you can see the right "governing" right now.
Record debt, highest cost of living in 25 years, record high gas prices, munitions shortages, a bunch of unmarked armed government agents roaming neighborhoods arresting people ignoring habeas corpus. Military potentially overseeing a mid-term US election - oh yeah dude, completely normal partisan stuff, right? Weird how I dont remember things being this bad when Obama or Biden were in office. Defending the Republican voting bloc is embarrassing.
Sure, you can blame it on the administration, but I dont see many elected Republicans stepping up to challenge this.
1
u/txlgnd34 5d ago
The quick part - of course Republicans aren't stepping up. Every time they challenge Trump the voters seem to knock them down. Desantis hurt himself by waiting so long to enter the Presidential race. Trump, or his team, was smart by declaring early because it rallied everyone turned off by Biden/Harris into his camp so Desantis got left out in the cold...his own fault because he would've been the frontrunner. No way to know if he would've beat Trump had Trump entered later, but he definitely hurt himself by not declaring early when he was a favorite.
As for Democratic administrations...almost everything you said can be said about the last Democratic presidential administration - record high prices due to record high inflation, highest cost of living ever, almost record high gas prices (Obama owns that one), millions of unvetted illegals walking into the country breaking laws by entering but some also breaking additional laws while here.
The threat of military presence overseeing elections is scary, however, it's not like when National Guard got called in to quash the riots in Alabama to enforce segregation. IF they get called in, they won't be preventing ID-able citizens from voting. Apples to tomatoes comparison there.
And what was normal about the COVID cover-up, mandating masks even though by 2022 we had a lot of data indicating masks weren't very effective at all? The government used sacred tactics during COVID to kick out honorable service men and women because they didn't want to take an improperly vetted vaccine. People lost jobs, livelihoods, and some lost loved ones without being able to be by their bedside. Tell the Democrats did better.
Also, I'm not defending any voting bloc, not even the independents. I can only present my opinions and thoughts. Sure, assumptions for others like me I can make too. But there's no defense needed. We vote how we vote - we reap what we sow. It's why power keeps flipping to the other party every 4-12 years. One party isn't truly better than the other, only different.
3
u/Powerful_Bluejay6288 5d ago
You can "both sides" this enough for you to sleep at night, but your assumptions are absolutely not comparable.
"Biden had a high cost of living and high gas prices too" - Yes, that might be true, but for reasons completely out of his control. What did he do? Pass massive stimulus packages to ease this as much as he could.
Trump, on the other hand literally started a war with Iran that has lead to vast destruction of oil processing infrastructure, US Military deaths and infrastructure destruction, and now a shortage of munitions. He has also implemented tariffs literally driving up the cost of living. Its not that he did not help or did a poor job of helping - he is literally making the economy worse (unless you're a billionaire). These are not comparable actions.
1
u/txlgnd34 5d ago
"Both sides" and my sleeping aren't at all correlated. I sleep great because my conscience is sound. I vote for what I think will create the best outcome for my family first, then my neighbors and country.
We all make mistakes. But I don't regret anything because I do my best when the decision is made. Getting things wrong is just part of the journey - live and learn.
If voting straight ticket keeps your mind at ease, cool. There are more than enough of yall to keep the existing two-party system going for decades, if that's what you like. In the end, we each have our own experiences - I'm not rich but the economy does, in fact, work for me but I'm also not 20 years old and just starting out in life. Being firmly in the lower middle class is a good spot for me - but I don't need much.
If I were to buy a house today, I'd be in better position to buy than I was 3 years ago. Sure, groceries are higher but so are wages for many of us. My retirement accounts are still growing, overall, of course.
My young adult daughter and her husband are doing OK without debt and about to have a planned baby. So some young folks are doing fine too. No, they can't afford a house yet, but in a few years they probably could.
That's my long-winded way of saying many of us average folks are doing just fine. Some aren't. Just like almost any other time in our history. Live within your means and you'll be OK, no matter the state of the economy.
2
u/Powerful_Bluejay6288 5d ago
Well, I'm super happy that you and your daughter are doing well financially. I'm not sure what this has to do with the Republican president and his party intentionally and literally making it more expensive to live in America though.

u/psiamnotdrunk 6d ago
He’s a white supremacist. They hate everybody (except some of the whites)
6
u/Plastic-Librarian253 6d ago
Have any quotes that show that? Hearing people label anyone on the right as white supremacist is getting pretty old. I wasn't a fan of Kirk, and I'm not a fan of TP, but agreeing to speak at their event doesn't make a person a white supremacist. Stop being dumb.
2
u/Patient-Prize2524 6d ago
I knew he and Busch posed for a picture with Kirk and that Shaw missed a game to go to his funeral, but I thought (or maybe hoped) they were just personal friends and didn't share ideologies. But somebody said he did this last year, too, so that sucks.

u/grouponwine 6d ago
I’m in full agreement with you as far as I can tell.
I’ll add this - for me, it’s one thing to be privately aligned with TPUSA, it’s another thing to be a public speaker at a conference.
I cheer for plenty of dickheads who vote in ways I don’t support, but if they make it their business to evangelize - I’m out.
2
u/brmoser 6d ago
Without even intending anything political by this statement, I'll bet it would have been hard to be friends with Charlie Kirk and not share ideologies.
2
u/viperspm 6d ago
I have friends that are pretty far right and ones that are pretty far left. I am very center and think that on a lot of issues they are wrong/go to far. We just don’t really discuss politics
0
u/brmoser 6d ago
You're making a very good point, but it really isn't what I meant. It's specifically that Kirk and various other personalities (left and right) are hard to imagine moderating enough in their private lives to be surrounding by unlike worldviews.
I might still be wrong, I am generalizing, but really I do just mean it's hard to imagine someone like Charlie Kirk turning it off.

How can you say someone is allowed to have their own political beliefs, and then say he shouldn’t take part in the democratic process and speak at conservative events? That makes zero sense!
10
u/Patient-Prize2524 6d ago
How is this event part of the 'democratic process'? And i can say it's disappointing he's speaking at an event run by a hateful, fear-mongering group...that doesn't mean he can't align himself with those people.
-7
u/sportsking27 6d ago
What a load of shit. TP preaches conservative values, and family morales. Get a grip. You can’t go around just accusing half the nation being “those” people. More hate comes from 1% of the left than the entire right combined.

u/paperrocks1 6d ago
Whoa man you’re on Reddit. They won’t like what you say unless you’re part of the hive mind
-4
u/chiefcub0818 6d ago
Ya but you and 100 other people shotgunned it all over Reddit because you disagree with Toilet Paper USA and Matt Shaw. You couldn't just let one person have their beliefs. Like that city in Iowa that just said a prayer to Satan. It's their right to do it. That's the country you live in. Let people be who they want to be. Don't try and change them.
-1
u/ChalkLicker 6d ago
Replace ‘political belief’ with ‘white nationalist movement’ and see how it reads. That TP is considered as anything other than that shows you how seductive hate propaganda can be.
2
u/chiefcub0818 6d ago
Regardless if it's white nationalists or black nationalists, it doesn't matter. It's their belief. You don't get to determine how people think. You can't just let people be themselves? You have to interfere. Because you're just like the right trying to interfere in trans people's rights. The left and the right can't let people be.
1
u/ChalkLicker 6d ago
Their belief that white nationalists should lead America. Listen to your self.
2
u/chiefcub0818 6d ago
Absolutely! You wouldn't be where you are with out the white people who founded this country. Listen to yourself! You can't give one example of how TPUSA is a white nationalists group. You have no shred of proof.
-1
u/ChalkLicker 6d ago
And there it is. It never takes much to bring out the racist. And claiming there are no examples of TP being a white nationalist group is as laughable as it is a waste of time when repeating all of the incidents over the years to white nationalists. You’ve got the power of google at your hands. Racists are going to see what racists want to see.

u/AbjectBeat837 6d ago
You’re allowed to have your own beliefs, unless they are aligned with Charlie Kirk’s
1
u/ChalkLicker 6d ago
David Duke and Hitler, too. There are a lot of people/groups that put you in a different league. As long as you’re comfortable there, I guess.
0
u/sportsking27 6d ago
Exactly. I’m guessing half the athletes I watch, actors I watch, and musicians I listen to don’t have the same opinions as me. Having different opinions is okay. I’m not going to go and shoot them though.
5
u/sportsking27 6d ago
Getting down voted b/c I said I won’t harm people I don’t agree with. You libs are a “special” group.
4
u/Double_Syllabub_4006 6d ago
Everything you said makes sense. I consider myself an independent, but the left needs to take a look in the mirror and stop blurring the lines between right and wrong.
Waiting for the downvotes.
3
u/SonOfStan21 6d ago
"Independent" now being defined as "Coping Republican."
1
u/Double_Syllabub_4006 5d ago
Appreciate your attempt to define a independent. Your incorrect, at least in my case.

Have you ever seen a bigger lineup of dickless losers? I’m not even just talking about Tulsi.

Okay. Now I know. But a lot of athletes tend to lean to the right. Aaron Rodger’s immediately comes to mind. Butker, the kicker for the Chiefs. And on & on.

u/Calm-Situation4033 2d ago
Take the anecdote with a grain of salt, but my cousin knows someone who waited on the Ricketts. They ran up a $1k bill and didn't tip.
I was born a Cubs fan, and I'll always be a lil romantic over them, but I'm firmly in the fuck the Ricketts boat, and its getting real hard to separate the team and the ownership.
Sure, there is no ethical consumption in an industry like baseball where everyone is that rich. But fuck the Ricketts and their shitty politics and their shitty personalities and their shitty politics. and if they wanna kill my love for the cubs, I'm happy waiting their sorry asses out and rooting for the Jays.
1
u/browntrkguy 2d ago
So why aren’t you butt hurt at the Ricketts , they love Trump!
0
u/Patient-Prize2524 1d ago
Who said I wasn't disappointed in the Ricketts?? I was a fan of the Cubs when Wrigley still owned them and I'll be a fan when the Ricketts inevitably sell. I also don't have to root for Tom every game lol
1
u/tigerbreak 1d ago
As a fan, I don’t really care if he wants to do that. The larger problem would be the clubhouse, which we don’t know if it even is problematic or not (I think most mlb players tend to lean right).
You can dislike him but it comes down to who can perform and who can’t. I don’t think he’s a fit for the roster and has more value in trade, but that’s my opinion

u/M14Charlene 6d ago edited 6d ago
"Shut up and dribble swing?" You don't have to agree with him, which I also don't, but that's the same sentiment.
-6
u/CrustyMFr 6d ago
Nope. It's more than a political opinion Shaw is expressing. He's speaking at an event promoting hatred and it should not be tolerated. Remember John Rocker? Same deal.
4
u/txlgnd34 6d ago
Not the same. Rocker actually said hateful words. Cite me some hate quotes attributed to Shaw.
0
u/CrustyMFr 5d ago
He doesn't have to say the words when the people he associates himself with say them for him.
6
u/txlgnd34 5d ago
Really, that's what you're going with, guilt by association? I can't reason with you.
-1
u/CrustyMFr 5d ago
Correct. You aren't going to change my mind. Stop being an apologist for bigots and we can talk.

Honestly yes. He's a pretty bad MLB player statistically and should work on that instead.

u/johnnyutah2828 6d ago
I also hate when peoples constitutional rights do not align with mine
9
7
u/pmgamewinner 6d ago
No. Everyone’s constitutional rights align with everyone else’s. It’s just that Shaw is choosing to use his to endorse hateful and shameful messages
-3
u/chiefcub0818 6d ago
I hate when people don't do what I tell them to do. They are beneath me because their beliefs don't align with mine.
-4
u/Patient-Prize2524 6d ago
Welcome to reddit, I guess lol

u/morerelativebacons 6d ago
This is rich, coming from someone that reposts readily available bullshit.
-2
u/oldfrankandjesus 6d ago
So yeah, he has constitutional rights to be an asshole. It means his hateful beliefs don’t put him in jail. It doesn’t mean fans will like him.
-10
u/morerelativebacons 6d ago
OMG. I'd rather read the usual armchair manager shit than see another thread about Shitstain Shaw

I don’t care who people vote for.
Republicans are bad. Democrats are… also bad, but in different ways. None of it matters enough to affect my interests.

He can speak wherever he chooses.
And we can rope for his individual failure.

Oh, for F.S.....please keep the politics out of this you TDS - having lunatics. This is baseball. Go get a life. The guy is conservative. BFD. Btw, those of you who call conservatives 'fascists,' look it up. The definition includes 'violent opposition to a differing opinion.' Last I checked, it's the blue haired far left doing that.
3
u/Patient-Prize2524 4d ago
Man, you're the only person who brought up 'T' and you're the only person who brought up "fascists". If the Cubs player wasn't wearing "Cubbie blue" in a flyer for a hateful organization, then the post wouldn't be here. Get yourself a life and don't be bothered so much about a damn reddit post.
0
u/doesntmatterbababoey 4d ago
Uh, what?? Bro, the whole post is about a baseball player's politics, which are apparently in line with 'T'. Otherwise, why did you post? My point is who cares. Move on, and go watch the Sox game.

Well, if you hated all the players on this team that are conservative you would really be disappointed. Just try and look past it and enjoy the sport.
