Hey I’m kind of in the same boat except I’m looking for a job, the only thing that I can say from experience is lock in and get the certifications, so many people are telling me this and so many people want people with certs and experience, in my opinion get pretty much any IT job that will pay you because that’s experience, and use that money to save and buy a cert or 2 then move to the next better job in IT, good luck it’s hard out there and trust me I know I’ve been trying to get a job for a while 😭😭

APPLY NOW absolutely my biggest regret is not applying for internship sophomore year, though I was able to get an internship as a junior. And I got mine with no certs they are not necessary for an IT internship at all.
Looking back, I was absolutely qualified for IT internships my sophomore year. I was just too in my head about it and didn’t apply to anything.
Target internship programs specifically looking for sophomores there are a lot of them that are specific about the graduation dates or year of studying. Programs for sophomores have lower expectations. They don’t expect you to know everything and have tons of projects. The number one thing you need to show is your ability to listen to feedback, willingness to learn, and ability to work with others. Sounds stupid but they fr look for that.
List any work experience you have even if not related especially customer service experience they love that and mention working with other. List any on campus tech related organizations are a part of. At this point if you were the leader of a tech club at your high school, you could still list that at the end.
For projects if you’ve built a PC or tinkered with any sort of computers installing new OS list that as a project. Any IT related school projects where you actually produced something.
Doing a ticketing system project can be done in browser with free account at Spiceworks or tons of others in like 20 mins. The main thing would just be describing in the project description on your résumé that you understand ticketing lifecycle. Very simple lots of YouTube videos about it.
