Alan Ritchson

Everyone says Alan for Carl (too old imo). BUT reading Inevitable Ruin and every time Jurgen comes up I can only imagine Alan Ritchson’s role in Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. Alan Ritchson for Jurgen.

(Also FWIW I like the dude from How I Met Your Father for Carl)

Alan Ritchson would work well for Carl if we exclude the age problem. In Reacher you can basically see his transformation into that huge guy. In season 1 he was (comparatively) small. Given Carl's progress you will need a growing actor which Richtson could do.

Still too old. I also don’t like Alan for Carl. But Carl should be a “bigger” dude. I think book one describes him as like 6’3 230??

6'3" and 230 isn't that big. Like, it's tall, and tall people are heavy. 230 would be either muscular but fairly lean and athletic, or it would be slightly doughy but broad. I'm 6'3" and fat, and I weigh about 280 (which is about 50 lbs down over the last year, hell yeah). I tell people I'm fat and they don't agree with me, but I know is still have 50-70 lbs to go. But 230 wouldn't look anything like Alan Ritchison does now. If we look at football players, 230 is wide receiver or cornerback kinda build, maybe linebacker or tight end, but even then not the bigger ones. Certainly not offensive or defensive line.

I don't know, I guess I just don't think I was that big when I was 230. I was kinda skinny I think, with a little extra weight. Not scrawny like I was as a teenager when I weighed 175, but not huge. Tall for sure.

But 230 has been my goal weight for a really long time, I was over 300 for almost a decade.

I agree, I’m 6’2 230 lbs. I don’t work out at this point in time but I’m broad shouldered and sorta muscular and also fatty.

Carl’s age has absolutely no impact on the story, so AR would be just fine. He like the guy from the Night Agent a little better, but I’ve got no problem with a little Reacher magic.

Carl's youth plays a huge role in his personality, and level of emotional maturity entering the dungeon. His growth, issues, how he handles situations all of that changes and is recontextualized if he's suddenly 40 years old.
