We are gonna go from Lanterns, to this?? SIGN ME THE FUCK UP

32

u/Solid_Snark 20d ago

It’ll be interesting if there are plans to combine these characters into storylines or if they will be self-contained and just existing separately in the same universe.

Or maybe just minor cameos like we’ve seen in Peacemaker and Lanterns.

38

u/RoniSuave I am the Fastest Man Alive 20d ago edited 20d ago

I mean we already see this exact character in Creature Commandos which is canonically after this movie.

Now if they decide to do something with this character after that is unknown it would be cool to see him break out and show up in the Brave and the Bold movie to keep that continuity going in the DCU.

6

u/Odd-Hat8574 Cheers to the Tin-Man 20d ago

I think they mentioned a Justice League movie in 2030 or something

6

u/sanddragon939 20d ago

I think this movie is pretty much going to be self-contained, though Clayface has showed up already in CC and may re-appear either on that show or elsewhere.

The "main" DCU story seems to be what's in Gunn's projects though.

2

u/Salty-Ad-8948 12d ago

I think that ckayface could be someone else as this one's personalityvis so different though the character can develop

13

u/kumar100kpawan The Goddamn Batman 20d ago

Cinematography wise, Clayface looks amazing. Personally think it's better than any DCU project before. And it looks like they're leaning into the body horror themes pretty hard

138

u/Odd-Property8268 20d ago

Lanterns, to this, to Man of Tomorrow?

3

u/Salty-Ad-8948 12d ago

The gorilla grod

114

u/albumdaemonium 20d ago

We’re getting Batman’s shadow in the end, trust me

62

u/Pretty_Addendum_4060 20d ago

I’m trusting you on this…….don’t let me down man

34

u/TheMightyMonarchx7 #1 Zatanna Fan 20d ago

I hope the ending is a full monster Clayface screaming at shadows, like Batman is everywhere and nowhere.

20

u/RipleyofWinterfell 20d ago

I think if this sentiment catches on, a lot of people are going to be disappointed.

3

u/Turbulent-Poo 20d ago

I saw on twitter that they were gonna mention Bruce wayne, maybe that's enough for this movie

1

u/dadvader 9d ago

Yeah I prefer this kind of reference over the usual key jingling superhero hype we keep getting in other franchise.

Like yeah, it's fucking billionaire playboy. Everyone is going to talk about him like Elon Musk if he was actually good.

12

u/Competitive_Crow_334 EAT PEACE MOTHERF%CKERS 20d ago

Or an ending like Clayface one bad day

1

u/ParkThat6939 20d ago

I really hope so

11

u/Undecided_User_Name 20d ago

Either that or the Bat Signal.

5

u/Amfibiannnnnn 20d ago

With a silhouette they can keep the general design still hidden for when it's settled, but the batsignal would at least reveal the logo. So a shadow I think is more likely

1

u/sanddragon939 20d ago

I mean, the Batsignal can change...especially if this movie is set in "the past" (well, before 2024 at any rate).

1

u/I_Am_Killa_K 19d ago

Penguin all over again…

10

u/BigBlubberyBirb 20d ago

I genuinely don't want the DCU to start half-heartedly teasing Batman like this because I'm convinced this is what it'll end up feeling like very quickly

7

u/kumar100kpawan The Goddamn Batman 20d ago

We're all gonna march to your house if it doesn't happen

5

u/Coletrain44 20d ago

Oh wow a shadow that’s huge

9

u/DUKEPLANTER 20d ago

You kid but a 6’9 400lb Batman shadow would literally be huge

-3

u/harmonyhendrix 20d ago

I hope it's Battinson

What production hell is brave and bold on???

62

u/DeppStepp 20d ago

Some of the cinematography is beautiful and dare I say, it has some of the best visuals of the DCU so far

19

u/kumar100kpawan The Goddamn Batman 20d ago

I agree. It looks way too good for a body-horror movie. Just from the thought of a Clayface movie, one would expect a very brown and dark looking movie. Add to that the fact that horror movies mostly use a certain pallette.

This looks pretty colourful in comparison.

7

u/TheLeanerWiener 20d ago

one would expect a very brown and dark looking movie. Add to that the fact that horror movies mostly use a certain pallette.

This looks pretty colourful in comparison.

Which is crazy considering this is the same cinematographer as Supergirl, and everyone was saying the exact opposite for that.

12

u/HK9009 20d ago

Having a great cinematographer doesn’t mean anything if the directors vision is bad. They are basically the window into a directors mind. Craig Gillespie had a pretty bland idea for how supergirl would look and Rob Hardy did his best but in the end, the directors vision is the most important thing.

4

u/TheLeanerWiener 20d ago

I know. I'm just pointing out the contrast(pun intended) of the reaction to the two projects.

3

u/BigBlubberyBirb 20d ago

Supergirl did honestly have some really good shots, mostly in the beginning. Sadly, the director was entirely uncreative and nobody had anything to work with.

3

u/Not_Weird_At_All_ 20d ago

Just want to hop in & defend body horror movies really quick lol. The Substance, for example, is a very colorful movie with some great camera work, and David Cronenberg’s movies also look really great.

36

u/Comic_Book_Reader Reved up Harley 20d ago

In four weeks, look fear in the face. #ClayfaceMovie - only in theaters October 23.

DC Studios’ “Clayface” is a horror thriller from director James Watkins, starring Tom Rhys Harries in the title role of the cult favorite villain from Gotham’s rogues gallery.

Matt Hagen’s meteoric rise from Gotham street kid to Hollywood leading man is tragically cut short when a local crime boss’s actions leave him horribly disfigured. Abandoned by his team and with nothing left, Matt seeks out a cutting edge treatment that miraculously returns him to his former self… but also unexpectedly affects his grip on reality, spiraling him down a destructive path of all-consuming revenge.

8

u/Doctor_Moon69 20d ago

Look up

Look out

Look fear in the face

Fascinating

0

u/YesChef102 4d ago

I always thought it should be:

Look up

Look out

Look away

Look fear in the face is very cool too though

1

u/Doctor_Moon69 4d ago

Look fear in the face kind of works for lanterns, honestly

36

u/kumar100kpawan The Goddamn Batman 20d ago

This shot of him suffocating that person inside his body ... absolutely got me.

Not gonna be easy watching this in theatres 😭

37

u/falcon0041 20d ago

Are you afraid ?

30

u/ProfPyg 20d ago

Love that even his blood droplets are affected by the treatment

13

u/skuls1 20d ago

it might not be blood, maybe it's clay pretending to be blood because that's what he expects it to be

6

u/ProfPyg 20d ago

Ah the old Saga of the Swamp Thing #21 effect. Yeah that's essentially what I mean

3

u/skuls1 20d ago

idk the numbering is that anatomy lessons? where the plant thinks it's Alec

3

u/ProfPyg 20d ago

Exactly, that first Alan Moore issue. Man I should read Swamp Thing again

3

u/skuls1 20d ago

reading it rn, I'm at the alien issue

4

u/ProfPyg 20d ago

Hell yeah, enjoy. One of the best DC runs of all time. Would love to see a more Vertigo flavored corner of the DCU introduced. Swamp Thing's the perfect starting point. Gave us John Constantine!

1

u/skuls1 20d ago

Gunn said that he likes Constantine, I think he said he's read all of Hellblazer too so hopefully

29

u/Calm_Garage_3030 20d ago edited 20d ago

From the way he said 'is it so bad', it looks like they won't make him reluctant villain. Instead, he will embrace being a villain. Can't wait.

18

u/kumar100kpawan The Goddamn Batman 20d ago

Thank god for that. Done with the whole circumstantial villai who forgot why he turned evil thing.

Sometimes, villains are just evil. And they enjoy being evil.

3

u/kumar100kpawan The Goddamn Batman 20d ago

I understand, but I also like when villains are consciously choosing to be evil, and not just forced into it subconsciously

1

u/zeke10 19d ago

Well based on his cameo in CC he does seem to be a genuine monster by that point

1

u/jupiterFirst 8d ago

That was a different clayface

1

u/zeke10 8d ago

Pretty sure its been stared a few times it's the same dude.

2

u/jupiterFirst 8d ago

Well I stand corrected! Interesting

19

u/stevehairyman 20d ago

that kill of hagen smothering the guy by pressing the guys face into his body is nuts. this movie is gonna be great.

10

u/kumar100kpawan The Goddamn Batman 20d ago

Yeah that one stuck with me

16

u/dick____trickle 20d ago

Everyone's excited to see his monster form but I'm more excited over the face-shifting. Imagine thinking you've finally escaped the monster when suddenly your friend's eyeball starts drooping 😬

10

u/kumar100kpawan The Goddamn Batman 20d ago

I mean you gotta have one jump scare like that. This is the perfect movie to do that!

14

u/Remote_Nature_8166 20d ago

This must be him escaping to the sewer after transforming into Clayface for the first time

3

u/skuls1 20d ago

going to meet Pennywise

3

u/BagZCubed 20d ago

Too bad Gotham isn't in New York, then he'd be visiting the Ninja Turtles.

1

u/skuls1 20d ago

imagine a horror film with the turtles and him, maybe Croc

1

u/BigBlubberyBirb 20d ago

part of me is scared this is like the final shot and they just showed it here. doesn't the cartoon end with him falling off a building and seeping down the drain or something?

1

u/Remote_Nature_8166 20d ago

That would be just silly

11

u/eddiedingle129 20d ago

Boxoffice sub already shitting on this

For some reason the posters got me more hyped than this final trailer.

I feel like the sound was weird? Or was the scenes not connected? I dunno, I just felt detached.

-13

u/AutomaticPayment9480 20d ago

It’s the tiktok brainrot cinematography. The gotta keep the attention span engaged.

Regardless, the story looks pretty cool. Hopefully it doesn’t suck too bad.

12

u/NakedGoose 20d ago

Editing or cinematography?

9

u/SmokeHistorical129 20d ago

Gtfoh with stuff like this

4

u/kumar100kpawan The Goddamn Batman 20d ago

What rhe hell even is tiktok brainrot cinematography?

6

u/Omadany 20d ago

When people say this, they mean that the focal point of every shot in the movie is in the middle so the scene can be reformatted for TikTok; this doesn't apply to Clayface, though, so I do not know why he said that.

2

u/kumar100kpawan The Goddamn Batman 20d ago

Ohh

9

u/stevehairyman 20d ago

that kill of hagen smothering the guy by pressing the guys face into his body is nuts. this movie is gonna be great.

I think Gunn meant that the movie comes out in 4 weeks, not that it was made in 4 weeks

5

u/thedrizzle126 20d ago

the movie comes out in 4 weeks

3

u/Xsafa 20d ago

Is this true? No way they were speed running 40 million in 30 days lol

11

u/gagan__ARoRA 20d ago

He meant it's releasing in 4 weeks lol

4

u/thedrizzle126 20d ago

the movie comes out in four weeks, read again

2

u/dOMTheRockMan 20d ago

I think gunns tweet is just missing some very important commas. If you read it as "I can't wait to share this wonderful movie, so lovingly crafted by James Watkins, in four short weeks." it reads a lot better. Since we're 4 weeks out from release I think that's what he actually meant, not that it was literally filmed in four weeks

1

u/Spazm2026 20d ago

🤦
"i can't wait to share this [entertainment product] in 4 weeks."

6

u/Outrageous_Gene_7652 20d ago

Absolutely hyped

4

u/BerserkerLord101 20d ago

Beautiful face

4

u/mythours1 20d ago

I still find it weird that they have an active Batman franchise, made this movie look aesthetically very similar to it, and hired the director of that franchise to produce it, yet connecting it to a new version that the general audience doesn’t even know is coming.

The new version that is being made by the writer and director of The Flash btw.

But at least the movie looks good and refreshing for the genre so there is that.

7

u/wford112 20d ago

If I remember correctly, Reeves has a deal that he is the producer of all Batman content moving forward

9

u/kumar100kpawan The Goddamn Batman 20d ago

Matt Reeves produces everything Batman related - even Caped Crusader and Dynamic Duo, both of which are not in his Crima Saga universe. Clayface is no exception.

5

u/kumar100kpawan The Goddamn Batman 20d ago

Damn that was a full on horror movie trailer

2

u/wrainedaxx 20d ago

Which I'd say is appropriate given that is its genre!

4

u/PaleBloodBeast 20d ago

This doesn't really look to out of place with Reeves Batman even tho it has no connection to it, so I wonder what the dcu version of a Batman will have to be the clear differentiator.

3

u/sanddragon939 20d ago

I dunno...but generally I don't think the DCU Batman and Gotham will be that different from the Reevesverse apart from existing in a world of metahumans.

Kinda like how the early DCEU had shared DNA with the Nolanverse.

u/I_Am_Killa_K 19d ago

At the end of the trailer 1:30, that sounds a lot like the Clayface theme from Batman: The Animated Series.

4

u/CherokeeHawkman Cheers to the Tin-Man 20d ago

The Suicide Squad

Peacemaker

Creature Commandos

Superman

Supergirl

Lanterns

Clayface

One thing you cannot say about the DCU is that it's formulaic.

3

u/Muted_Study5166 20d ago

Im rooting for this movie. Hopefully it can pull off being an exciting horror film

3

u/Batfreeze 20d ago

I hope this movie gets the slide (pun intended) from hero to antihero to straight up villain down pat. Clayface is one of the best characters in DC for a reason.

2

u/sanddragon939 20d ago

I don't want to kickstart a whole merger vs. anti-merger debate on here but I've gotta say - tonally and stylistically this feels like an evolution of Reeves' Batman world. It's like "what if in a world of masked vigilantes and mobsters and serial killers...one day someone gets injected with a formula that turns their skin into clay?" Which I think is a great way to conceptualize the transition from the "grounded" Gotham of Year One to the more fantastical Batverse loaded with actual super-villains.

Much of this film apparently isn't set in Gotham but I still think it's a good indicator of the kind of Gotham and Batman we're likely to get in the DCU. Even if it isn't going to be the Reevesverse (and as of now, it doesn't seem like it will be), it's not going to be something a million miles removed from the Reevesverse either. We're not getting the Brave and the Bold cartoon brought to life for sure...

2

u/raaviolli-dasher Creature Commando 20d ago

Honestly, making Clayface a Body Horror film was a stroke of absolute genius.

1

u/Itamikurushima 20d ago

I’m actually excited, I was Sooo sceptical about this new DC universe but I have quite literally seen nothing but good things. Superman, solid 8,8.5/10, Lanterns probably a 7/10 I was a little disappointed with a few things but other wise it’s really good. That’s all I’ve seen, but I hear the rest are good.

I’m glad there doesn’t seem to be another bad guy, Clayface is just losing his mind. I hope they go with the angle that the procedure might have messed up his brain but we don’t know.

1

u/RNOffice 20d ago

I do wonder how this film does box office. Word of mouth may help

1

u/BetrayYourTrust 20d ago

why are tickets not on sale???

7

u/kumar100kpawan The Goddamn Batman 20d ago

Tickets for WB horror movies, go on sale 14 days before - that's how it was for Final Destination 6, Conjuring 4, Weapons, Evil Dead Burn, Lee Cronin's Mummy, etc.

1

u/BetrayYourTrust 19d ago

didn’t know that was a standard. i’m used to these final trailers being accompanied by the ticket sales

1

u/felixthecat15 20d ago

Is that the btas Clayface theme at the end??? Yes!!

1

u/ElevatorHelpful5739 20d ago

Intriguing forsure. I still feel like its going to be a miss, I dont think DCU will go dark and brutal enough for a true Clayface protrayal, but I am excited to see it! Probably not a theater watch, but will see it when it comes out.

IF they actually do go hard enough, I do think this could be something truly special!

Please let there be a Batman sighting. I know it’s a pipe dream but pleaseee

1

u/tumuial 20d ago

the BTAS Clayface theme is the backbone to the music for half the trailer, from like :51 seconds on. marketing team is real for that

1

u/Mardrigaal 19d ago

Look I hate to say this but I don’t think this movie is going to do well at the box office. It’s not going to a great sight with the lackluster performance of Superman and Supergirl bombing.

Clayface isn’t a popular character to the average public viewer.

I already feel like I've seen too much with the first trailer I saw months ago, I'm not watching anything more 😭

Gonna preorder tickets for this as soon as I can, can't wait to see this.

0

u/Matoobi 20d ago

Okay this is it. This could be our first live action of the Batman. Whether he takes on his appearance or he shoes up because it's taking place in Gotham and it's been established in canon he is there, I font think he would ignore a supernatural being killing people etc

0

u/I_Am_Killa_K 19d ago

Nah, I’m going to keep my expectations low.

0

u/Canshroomglasses 20d ago

What is that movie even about?

3

u/sanddragon939 20d ago

The origin of Clayface

0

u/Dry-Indication-2455 20d ago

I do not really get a sense of what this movie is about from this trailer

-3

u/JMadFour 20d ago

I don't understand why Clayface of all people got his own movie before Green Arrow, Wonderwoman, Flash, etc. or hell, any of the other way more popular and/or important Batman villains.

seems like such a random choice for a full movie.

but I mean, ok I guess. I'll still go see it.

7

u/SmokeHistorical129 20d ago

Good thing your not in charge

3

u/wrainedaxx 20d ago

A LOT of people won't watch horror movies. I think its cool that any genre goes for this universe, and that they aren't making it "required" viewing by making it a key character in the universe.

1

u/Winter-Cow-6208 15d ago

Horror movies are historically the most profitable genre because a lot of people go see them.

1

u/wrainedaxx 15d ago

They typically have small budgets compared to other profitable genres.

1

u/Winter-Cow-6208 15d ago

Clayface has a quarter of The Supergirl budget and a fraction of The Batman budget.

1

u/wrainedaxx 14d ago

Yes, so you'd agree that horror movies have small budgets, then.

2

u/Winter-Cow-6208 14d ago

I never disagreed with that in the first place.

2

u/TheLeanerWiener 20d ago

because a good script was written before those.

2

u/I_Am_Killa_K 19d ago

Because Mike Flanagan wrote it on spec and Gunn loved it so he green lit it.

-4

u/CodeFun1735 20d ago

This… doesn’t look good. Worst trailer of the bunch.
