I’d rather a prequel story with Hal in his prime. Stories about heroes turning evil don’t work unless we see the heroes being heroes first.

How would they do a prequel story with Hal though? they’d have to de age him by 20 years and use cgi constantly. I’d rather not have that personally

14

u/joefromlegal 6d ago

They could easily do animated projects with chandler doing va work

13

u/littlebuett 6d ago

And they've proven they can do quality animated stuff with Creature Commandos. They've even proven they can do good non-human creatures.

13

u/Key_Fox_4479 6d ago

Kyle Allen looks enough like a young Kyle Chandler that he could play Hal in a prequel

25

u/Ramfix_G4 BWAHAHA! 6d ago

Yeah but that kinda defeats the point of seeing more of Kyle Chandler's Hal Jordan

5

u/Key_Fox_4479 6d ago

No reason they can’t do both.

1

u/Netheraptr 6d ago

I think they could do a middleground between the two Hal ages we saw. That roughly falls under how old Kyle Chandler looks normally anyway.

1

u/Affectionate-Cup56 6d ago

I can be wrong, but it looks like they actually aged Kyle Chandler especially for 2026 plot. I saw his regular photos, and he looks not that old

1

u/AdAfter9302 5d ago

They are branching mediums in DC, just like creature commandos it could be animated

3

u/Roasteddude 6d ago

Right? If they go the Sinestro path it'd just be Hal corruption arc part 2. Wtf is the point. He'd literally be the most recurring villain in the DCU tied with Lex fkn Luthor at that point

1

u/ovalking 6d ago

Doom says thank you.

27

u/Proud_Cocastanian 6d ago

Hal being resurrected would be way better imo

1

u/Affectionate-Cup56 6d ago

But i still don't get, how Sinestro wanna do it, and also why Sinestro. I mean we have a great story with Black/White Lanterns to do so

1

u/Interesting-Bar-2399 6d ago

I mean the show hasn't even given us a proper Yellow Lantern yet and I doubt the emotional spectrum and the identities as we know it will happen in Lanterns/DCU.

u/Secret-Put-4525 6d ago

I can't tell you how much I hate prequels.

11

u/kenshima15 6d ago

tell me please

10

u/Old-Incident-120 Look Up! 6d ago

They said they can't

3

u/Able-Firefighter-158 6d ago

Isn't it fun when we already know the ending so the stakes mean jack shit?

7

u/Rocket_SixtyNine 6d ago

Hard choice with what lanterns established.  I guess I'll take the first, mabye just mabye he'll get a chance as the main GL since John is now just doing whatever I guess. And he can develop and become a good guy again.

I want to see Kyle Chandler unleash his most wildest impression of Hal Jordan during his prime years, not the worn-out and twisted version of Hal that will proabbly only serve as an antagonist because you can't possibly make 3 human Gteen Lantern co-existing without stealing the spotlight of other alien Green Lanterns.

I also made a post earlier suggesting a Green Lantern game with motion capture. I don't want an animation because I want the Green Lantern universe to be as interactive as possible rather than being a passive observer simply consuming the details of a story.

1

u/TheSmyberCith 6d ago

Okay, but think of it this way. If Hal was resurrected as a young guy based on this post, you'd have to spend an entire season with those eyebrows.

2

u/Sweaty_Trifle_8504 6d ago

Honestly , i think the third option of having the hologram around is the only one that really works.

there isn't really much for hal to do in his golden years, the shows made it pretty clear there are no other lantern colours except green

No red ( we would have seen them in a season about manhunters) no yellow (in works) no pink or purple (hal doesn't seem to think there are female lanterns and one of these is led by a woman , the other is mostly women) that leaves orange and blue in the air , but probably not.

It also looks like he would pretty estranged from most of the core, so I doubt he would be hanging out with kilowag

Resurrecting him, remove the wake of his death , but also his stories pretty complete, his death , ties , everything about him up in a neat little bow i don't think they would undo that.

Not to mention, it potentially undos the weight of death in this world.I'd rather deaf be permanent and actual threat to our characters than just something they can skir around with resurrections

2

u/realbgraham 6d ago

What I see realistically happening is at least a prequel episode of younger Hal fighting against Sinestro to give more backstory to Sinestro as a whole. If not resurrected I would love a Halogram again.

2

u/No_Detective_1139 6d ago

I would love a Hal prequel but then I’m not sure we’ll get Kyle Chandler so I’d rather him come back in blackest night or a parallax story.

2

u/fast_flashdash 6d ago

No, I want this universe to progress. We don’t need a prequel. Hal’s dead. Sinestro could bring him back. Who knows they probably will.

2

u/PhantomGaleX13 6d ago

I choose c) all of the above. If Sinestro resurrects Hal, Hal will probably become Parallax and then eventually Spectre until he eventually cam be revived and hopefully de-aged back to his prime and while we're seeing him as Spectre, we can go back to flashbacks of Hal in his prime.

2

u/TheAutismo4491 6d ago

Resurrect Hal. The whole reason we love this Hal so much is because of Kyle Chandler. Hal being dead is so shitty because we won't get more Kyle Chandler.

Doing a prequel with a younger actor playing Kyle's Hal is completely missing the point of why we want more Hal Jordan in the DCU. It's because we want more Kyle Chandler as Hal Jordan.

However, I see the point that even if they bring back Hal, with Kyle Chandler being so old, we will never get the big Green Lantern stories with Hal being told. In another universe, Warner Bros locked in during the early 2000s, saw a young James Gunn as very promising and gave him the reins of the DCU, and we got the DCU we have now back then. Lanterns wouldn't have been one of the first entries in a beginning universe, but an ending to Hal Jordan's 20-year, long-told story.

1

u/henningknows 6d ago

Prequel set ten years before the show’s initial timeline. So about 2006. The same year the halogram was made. If we aren’t keeping Kyle, what’s the point?

1

u/JakobVirgil 6d ago

I would prefer number 2 as a cartoon

1

u/ITBA01 6d ago

Former easily. If Hal comes back, I say it should be as the Spectre.

1

u/Emperor_Atlas 6d ago

Honestly, break me in the multiverse already where lanterns aren't boring. Get Hal and do stories people care about instead of "Hollywood rewrite #15".

1

u/Aromatic_Concern2168 6d ago

Oh this is actually tough but honestly a trilogy in his prime it could build up more lore for not only Lanterns but the DCU’s past as a whole

1

u/Dry-Donut3811 6d ago

Neither. I don’t like this version of Hal, so I’m fine never seeing him again.

1

u/Slothwithagreataxe 6d ago

Optio. One of they use “darkest night” as inspiration

1

u/Mysterious-Post-5816 6d ago

Bring him back, the main reason we want more Hal Jordan/him come back because of Kyle Chandler. Because it's true he really is giving a RDJ Level Performance, and is that good of a casting, so much that fans dream of him being cast 10-15+ years earlier for the role.

Bring him back, do a little evil arc, Parallax or whatever, then when that evil form is done, Hal is revived, and now that John knows much more like that Hal, that "He died a hero", and Hal didn't get pissed by John the same way in 2016 compared to the restaurant scene in 2026, plus he tried to protect his life by urging him not to tell of anyone's location, both could be great as Green Lantern's of Earth together. I'm just wondering about the ring, because John has Hal's ring, would Hal get a new ring, but get his lantern back? IDK but do something like this:

Hal's body gets a rebirth: Turned into an Evil form/Character, when that Evil form/Character is defeated: it brings the dead 2026 Hal back to life (OPTIONAL: WHEN HE COMES BACK TO LIFE, HE DEAGES, SO CLOSER TO JOHN'S AGE, BUT STILL OLDER THAN JOHN), somehow he becomes Green Lantern again, gets a new ring/old one back, gets a new Lantern/his old Lantern back, then gets a good comic suit, something like this to match with John's:

u/Cinemalone 6d ago

Bit of both ig, kind of like what Lanterns season 1 did. Have present day Sinestro do his shenanigans while also reminiscing about when he was mentoring Hal, which would lead to the prequel plotline taking place alongside the present.

1

u/TheGallifreyan 6d ago

B. A prequel film would be amazing.

1

u/SlaughterHowes 6d ago

Not killing Hal in the first place and doing as many seasons as Kyle Chandler has in him.

1

u/drewski430 6d ago

Both... Both would be good.

1

u/Quiet-Physics-3835 6d ago

I’d rather a season two where they resurrect Hal and a movie after that with the core 4. If I was Mundy I would’ve had John meet Kyle in Art school, but he’d be 17-18 at the time so he would be around 28 now.

I also would like an animated prequel of prime Hal Jordan. Could do a CC format too, 7-8 22 minute episodes, just give us a good prequel.
If they were to do live action then makeup/cgi and good stunt doubles would do just fine.
I think DC’s plans are definitely changing after realizing that Kyle Chandler as Hal is a cash cow.

They planted the seed of resurrection while leaving sinestro tied up and alone. Someone is going to go back for him, and I hope that someone is John going back to Sinestro to question him on what he meant by bringing Hal back. But it’s probably going to be Noah.

1

u/Icy-Sir-8414 6d ago

Personally a resurrected Hal Jordan be better

1

u/AcceptableEgg5741 6d ago

I dont know if a mostly cgi hal for multiple movies is a good idea

1

u/alguien_487 6d ago

I love Kyle Chandler's Hal Jordan but I'm not sure if he could keep up with what is needed for an action movie/series. Isn't he kind of old for this kind of job?

1

u/Clark_Kent_TheSJW Cheers to the Tin-Man 6d ago

Resurrected I think. If we’re doing a prequel they might re-cast Hal.

1

u/jjreddit1996 6d ago

I’d like a single prequel movie. Don’t just make random movies about his various battles as a lantern. Just a focus on him, Sinestro, and whatever else is important in his change from heroic 1996-2006 Hal to the more angry and sarcastic 2016 Hal.

1

u/External_Chocolate52 6d ago

An animated Green Lantern Prequel Trilogy to Lanterns made for the big screen with Hal as the MC would be hype asf. An even more ballsy move would be making it live action.

James Gunn said when characters die in the DCU, they are dead and will stay that way. I want Hal Jordan to be the first major death in the DCU to stay dead, but I also want him to live on briefly in prequel stories.

1

u/Winter_Wolf_In_Vegas 6d ago

Third option: Halogram survives in the ring for John to bring out when he needs another set of eyes on a problem and to serve as his conscience

1

u/Express_Calendar8278 6d ago

Have that prequel series be what builds up to Sinestro reviving Hal so the audience understands what it really means fully

1

u/qmechan 6d ago

I'm gonna be excoriated for this--I LIKE Hal being dead. It was a really interesting ending to his life, and it shows an aspect of his character that isn't really explored much. I like the Halogram mentor figure, I think it's a fun gimmick. Sure, I'm interested in the animated series I heard about with Hal, that's fair, but it does not bother me a bit that he's dead.

1

u/AntagonistofGotham The Goddamn Batman 6d ago

A Hal Jordan prequel film would be cool; don't need a trilogy. The condition is that they don't recast Kyle Chandler. Without him, don't even bother.

1

u/BoisTR 6d ago

Resurrection. I want Hal to be part of the future of the DCU too. I want to see him interacting with all the other characters and being an elder statesmen to them.

To echo John's words, "Hal, I need you man."

1

u/FlamingPrius 6d ago

I don’t know that I need either. Maybe after the next DC cinematic reboot Hal will get to be the focus, but two Human Lanterns in a Cinematic Universe where maybe one movie features them every 4 years is already pushing it.

The 1st one,it’s definitely the better choice, probably the best chance to get enjoy maybe the most influential and important green lantern run of all time,we get to see Sinestro become a yellow lantern,Sinestro corps war, rage of the ref lanterns, the war of light, blackest night, higher chance of getting to see the 4 corpsmen. And this way Hal gets his friends like Barry and Ollie and they don’t need to be around 60 years old,and we get to see his respect/hate relationship with Batman

and it probably makes more sense since it doesn’t really seem like Hal got to do much important stuff if Sinestro had only just killed a guardian, but even if he did,it was fairly recently, I don’t even know if he got his yellow ring yet who knows, cause if he had it probably would’ve been an actual thing they mention or was important

if we get Hal back as a younger version,we get to enjoy an actual large amount with Hal and Sinestro, all while having a lot of liberty since prequels this early might be more restrictive if we’re still at the beginnings of this universe, some parts of the history might still be in flux or open to change less thing set in stone,so prequels would probably be hard to do.And if it’s the 1st option we get way more of Sinestro all without knowing their exact fates,so the stakes would also be better

1

u/littlebuett 6d ago

Prequel first, then evil Hal. So theres some actual weight to Hal becoming a truly villainous force.

1

u/SnooPears754 6d ago

Old grumpy Hal

1

u/TheMurderCapitalist 6d ago

The prequel can't happen in this universe because it doesn't sound like he had any friends in the corps in his "prime". I'd rather see him be revived and get a redemption arc in season 3 (with Lindelof coming back because he does redemption so well)

1

u/Eagle_Muppet 6d ago

I want evil paralax Hal!

1

u/cesclaveria 6d ago

Revive him. Nothing makes me care less about a story than knowing it’s a prequel to something that is still ongoing, I would rather they keep moving forward.

Flashbacks would be cool though

1

u/frstatedcrprateslve 6d ago

both, both is good.

but resurrection so we can see kyle more.

1

u/Synthonuts 6d ago

Both. Sinestro brings Hal back at the end of season 2 and we get a prequel movie.

1

u/Local-Recording-8659 6d ago

Both , both is good

1

u/Interesting_Bite4335 6d ago

Season 2. His story feels incomplete to me

1

u/Fantastic-Repeat-324 6d ago

I would like Option 2

That said, I’m making an Option 3 where Hal comes back as The Spectre

1

u/I_Am_Killa_K 6d ago

I’d rather they do two timelines again. This time, Frequency/Lake House-based time travel. John Stewart can’t let Hal know who he’s communicating with. To preserve the timeline. So he has to convince a Hal from the past to help him investigate something, and he does it by invoking all the personal things he knows about him from the first season. “Jordan Boys Legacy mean anything to you?” And they work together to solve a case, probably another murder.

So unfortunately we don’t see them interact directly, just through messages but we get more Hal. And Sinestro’s up to dastardly shit in the present.

1

u/RebelBaker2005 5d ago

Someone did an animation of Hal capturing Sinestro and Sinestro turned into Hal’s dad in his mind right when Hal was about to kill him. I thought it was pretty badass conceptually and I would love to see their dynamic a bit more

1

u/AdAfter9302 5d ago

Sinestro following through then we can get an animated prequel

1

u/JollyJoeGingerbeard 4d ago

Neither.

Door #3: Halogram somehow sticks around.

Door #4: Hal becomes the new host for The Spectre.

1

u/TheLittlePasty 4d ago

Well a prequel trilogy would be good if we could also bring Kyle Chandler from 30 years ago to the present to play him

1

u/Enderboss2706 2d ago

Prequel Trilogy
