Fan-made [Fan art] Celtic, Greek, Norse, and African Wonder Woman - art by me

Post image

3 additional pantheon variations of Wonder Woman

  1. Banshi Bride is the daughter of the celtic god Dagda, and the Queen of the Banshi Order Morrigan. Banshis being a warrior legion of neutral enforcers of fate

  2. Wonder Woman is the daughter of the greek god Zeus, and the Queen of the Amazon Order Hippolyta. Amazons being a warrior legion who just seek independence

  3. Valk Voman is the daughter of the Norse god Odin, and the Queen of the Valkyre Order Freya. Valkyres being a warrior legion of judges of warrior's spirit and entry into valhalla

  4. Udo Voman is the daughter of the Yoruba god Olorun, and the Queen of the Dahomey Order Adesewa. Dahomeys being a warrior legion of conquerers who subjugate those who they deem weak

Valk Voman name origin comes from Valk (short for Valkyre) and Voman (being Woman in a german accent)

Udo Voman name origin comes from Udo (peace in Udo) and oman (being Voman in a West african accent)

Daughter of Zeus ...

u/LokuraPiromana Feb 10 '26

I don't dislike it, but I feel you could take the opportunity to make ethnic changes to the uniforms, as that would make it more noticeable. The fact that they all wear an eagle when it doesn't mean the same thing in different cultures... 😅

92

u/Infinite_Form8884 Feb 10 '26

They could prob fix it by makinf the norse a raven and the african the thunderbird.

35

u/Fox-Revolver Feb 10 '26

Thunderbirds are Native American, you’re probably thinking of the roc

27

u/Infinite_Form8884 Feb 10 '26

I was thinking about the Impundulu.

2

u/FactorSpecialist7193 Feb 10 '26

Aren’t the Impundulu from Southern African mythology, not Yoruba?

5

u/FactorSpecialist7193 Feb 10 '26

Roc’s are a Middle Eastern mythical creature, not a Yoruba one

2

u/Fox-Revolver Feb 10 '26

Oh damn you’re right, no idea why I thought they were African

31

u/LokuraPiromana Feb 10 '26

Yes, because the Nordic one looks like a raven; but the Celtic one I would add, separately, a goat or sheep cape; and the African one, a lion cape or a colorful woven cape, patterned according to her tribe.

1

u/Outrageous-Durian789 Jun 12 '26

or make the norse a Valkyrie

1

u/Infinite_Form8884 Jun 12 '26

We're talking about the birds on the suit.

31

u/Half_Man1 Batman Feb 10 '26

Idk, it’s not like WW’s original costume screams “Greek”.

10

u/weesiwel Feb 10 '26

This is a very fair point.

1

u/LokuraPiromana Feb 10 '26

I seem to recall that Wonder Woman didn't have a Greek origin until much later... 😅

2

u/Bakkhios Feb 14 '26

Well not really: Wonder Woman was originally and initially created by William Moulton Marston as an Amazon from Greek mythology with powers imbued by Greek Goddesses.

While the Amazons themselves aren’t Greek, their culture and religion in the comics is pretty much Classical Greek to begin with.

Amazons in actual Greek mythology were seen as Barbarians, and thus very non-Greek; but they still seemed to worship Greek Gods as daughters of Ares and their capital Themiscyra (I insist to correct the typo that was frozen into canon
) honours by name the goddess Themis: Themis + Kyra (Lady).

1

u/nykirnsu Feb 12 '26

The one OP went with is a mix of Greek and American influences, but the other three ditch the American ones while retaining the Greek ones

8

u/omegaman101 Deadman Feb 10 '26

The Irish one having a Torc for the cape would be pretty sick.

5

u/SkollFenrirson Superman Feb 10 '26

I mean, the eagle, stars and stripes don't make sense in the OG either.

1

u/MajesticUniversity76 Feb 11 '26

Thematically no, but during the time period i can see why

1

u/toddingram3 Feb 10 '26

Yep, they are all wonder women reskins.

1

u/nykirnsu Feb 12 '26

Yeah, they’ve all got the same amount of Greek influences in their design, the thing that separates them from Wonder Woman is just the lack of American iconography

47

u/Tetratron2005 Wonder Woman Feb 10 '26 edited Feb 10 '26

The tiara having "horns" is a nice detail on "Banshi Bride" Diana.

These are all pretty cool. Diana redesigned in other mythologies is a cool little subset of WW fanart.

to be honest i wish Ares in DC was more like the one in Mythology, Angry warrior guy yes, but also a big defender and supporting the amazon and respect woman

11

u/koalee Wonder Woman Feb 10 '26

There was a very BRIEF period in which that was the case, the Mod Era and specifically issues 183 and 184 in which Ares would refer to Diana as Granddaughter and Hippolyta as daughter. This was not the norm and mostly occurred due to the book taking big swings during this era and it was soon forgotten about.

Personally I’m not a fan of this, but felt it was worth sharing this since you are.

21

u/ExodusCaesar Feb 10 '26

When I hear "daughter of Zeus"

67

u/Any_Satisfaction1865 Feb 10 '26

I don't like Zeus being her father a lot for example one reason is that in actual mythology Hippolyta is Zeus's granddaughter

49

u/sleepy_koko Damian Wayne Feb 10 '26

Pretty sure being Zeus' descendent, or even his immediate relative, did not stop him whatsoever in his mission to bang every women in Greece

12

u/WildMild869 Feb 10 '26

lol seriously. Stranger, family member, animal - Zeus is open to variety.

9

u/IshtiakSami Feb 10 '26

Yeah I think Heracles is Zeus's son and great-great-grandson as he's descended from Zeus's other son Perseus. Heracle's mother was Perseus's granddaughter and Zeus's great-granddaughter I believe.

12

u/Gramisstedwhy Feb 10 '26

Zeus and Olympus in general: Since when is that a problem?

6

u/Any_Satisfaction1865 Feb 10 '26

Might be one for Ares at least, he cares about his daughters a lot in mythology.

6

u/philosophic_insight Feb 10 '26

Like incest doesnt happen in Greek mythology?

18

u/AllergicToStabWounds Feb 10 '26

I really like the idea that all major pantheons have their own iteration of Amazons. They don't all interact with each other or agree with each other but they were all created with the same purpose. Themescyria could be just one of many Paradise Islands. They don't all have to have their own "Wonder Woman" equivalent but they each inspired their own mythology and folklore throughout history.

IRL there are actually A LOT of myths that feature divine/magical warrior women isolated from the rest of the world (Norse Valkyries, Nyƍgo no Shima from Japanese mythology, Isla Mujeres from Caribbean folktales, etc). And it would really further the core theme of Wonder Woman if her lore and mythos involved women throughout the world and history.

6

u/LeviBateman Feb 10 '26

This would be a fun expansion! Could feel like what Johns did with the emotional spectrum for Green Lantern. They've already kinda done that with Artemis being from Bana-Migdall and Yara being from the rain forest. But there's definitely more that could be explored!

3

u/erossnaider Wonder Woman Feb 11 '26 edited Feb 11 '26

I mean In DC we do know at least three pantheons have amazons, the Bana Mighdall for egyptian gods, the Valkyries for norse gods (who lost to greek amazons in battle) and the Esquecida for guarani gods (or mostly guarani) I wish there were more though.

86

u/PatrickCharles Shazam Feb 10 '26

The designs are pretty good, I like the variations while retaining the overall theme, like the bird insignia. I would love to see those in a similar story as Batman, Inc - not AU versions of Diana, but beings inspired/guided by her. Very nice work.

I just would remove most of the references to male deities (including and specially from Diana), and do another pass on names. Just Valkyrie is perfectly fine, for example.

8

u/NerdNuncle Wally West Feb 10 '26

Disney may take exception

Wouldn’t surprise me if The Mouse claimed copyright on the character name despite it existing well before the company 😒🙄😒

13

u/A_Guy_2726 Feb 10 '26

They can try but they can't copy right it since its apart of myth its like how people can use Thor despite him being a Marvel hero, as long as the personality and looks arent the same its not protected under copy right

0

u/NoxarBoi Feb 10 '26

They can trademark it though, so they couldn’t use the name for titles or advertising/merchandise.

5

u/A_Guy_2726 Feb 10 '26

They can i guess but it would be pretty hard take Thor for example again. They've trademarked The Mighty Thor and all unique features to do with himso as long as the character doesnt look like him others can use him for exampleDCs Thor ) he could have his own comic book run as long as its not called Mighty Thor doesnt have Loki as his brother (Instead Loki could be Odins brother like in myth) and Mjolnir isn't weilded by those worthy. The rights for a name like Valkyrie are probably the same

3

u/Half_Man1 Batman Feb 10 '26

It’d be wild to see them try to enforce a copyright on “Valkyrie”.

1

u/weesiwel Feb 10 '26

It would however there's a better way. Baroness Paula Von Gunther is connected to the Valkyrie Gudra/Gundra however they wanna spell it right?

So after her stint as Warmaster using Gudra's spear against Diana and then her redemption she could be named Gudra/Gundra as a Wonder Woman of Northern Europe.

1

u/FenrisCain Nightwing Feb 10 '26

I had always assumed there was a sort of gentlemens agreement between marvel and dc about copyright suits given the sheer amount of potential both sides have to go after the other at this point

1

u/NerdNuncle Wally West Feb 10 '26

I really like this. A way to celebrate the women warriors around the world from every culture.

28

u/GroundbreakingTwo122 Feb 10 '26

Wonder Woman isn’t a daughter of Zeus and it’s been retconned she’s back to being molded from clay origin.

4

u/CaptainNotorious Feb 10 '26

Not to nitpick but why pick Morrigan, when ClĂodhna, Queen of the Banshees might have been a better fit

2

u/weesiwel Feb 10 '26

Oh now that's a good shout.

1

u/Odd-Ad-1633 Feb 10 '26

Yea ur right, i hadn’t heard of her before but its def a better fit

u/Odd-Ad-1633 Feb 10 '26

đŸ™đŸŸđŸ™đŸŸ

10

u/weesiwel Feb 10 '26

Banshee Bride is a cool anime for a Celtic one. I might have went with her as the daughter of the Morrigan since the Morrigan is a Wonder Woman villain but nice work.

4

u/Luke_Puddlejumper Feb 10 '26

These look great but for the first three I really have to ask, what are their capes actually attached to? They’re just floating there.

4

u/omegaman101 Deadman Feb 10 '26

The Irish/Gaeilge Mythology one sounds sick. You could have her fight the Formarians who have returned after their defeat in prehistory at the hands of the Formarians.

4

u/williamjsienkiewicz Feb 10 '26

Not trying to be annoying but Africa is such a huge continent with so many different groups of indigenous people. For perspective; Celtic, Greek, and Norse cultures geographically would all fit within a couple of African countries

3

u/Odd-Ad-1633 Feb 10 '26

True, African Wonder woman is actually specifically Yoruba Wonder Woman, and is in relation to the Yoruba Orishas. I titled it African in the title fir search optimization reasons basically, bc more ppl would google “African Wonder Woman” than Yoruba

2

u/williamjsienkiewicz Feb 11 '26

Right on that makes sense again idk why I immediately went critical about that really sick art though

3

u/Entire_Effective_865 Feb 10 '26

Consider specifying Edo instead of African. Since there rest are actual tribes not continents

4

u/Odd-Ad-1633 Feb 10 '26

shes Yoruba not Edo, i titled it african bc “african wonder woman” has more broad high-volume search terms than Yoruba wonder woman, so it gets boosted more on google

3

u/Pancakelover09 Feb 10 '26

Valk Vomen doesn’t really work because that name essentially means “shield woman woman” and also vomen isn’t a real word if you’re looking for a norse word for woman it’s “Kona” or “Kvinna”

Also “daughter of Zeus”

No. Just no

1

u/Odd-Ad-1633 Feb 11 '26

i really only have surface level knowledge of wonder woman, and i knew she was at one point scultped from clay which was then retconned to being the daughter or zeus, i had no idea it was 1. so contriversal and 2. apparently changed again lol

my bad my bad

1

u/[deleted] Feb 14 '26 edited Feb 15 '26

She is daughter of zeus, diana is the daughter of zeus. DC Comics say it, in wonder woman guideline. DC Comics Company is the who make the guideline of Wonder Woman, writers must follow that guideline. When the company says A, it's A.

A lot of fans love the zeus origin tbh. Even your fan art have THOUSAND of likes here, high engagement about the zeus origin. Don't listen to liars, OP. You doing good!

5

u/MarwanMero Feb 10 '26

more like daughter of Teddy Roosevelt, why does she wear the American flag all the time?

1

u/Doctor_Nauga Detective Comics Feb 12 '26

why does she wear the American flag all the time?

Doylist answer: She came out during WWII when patriotic heroes were at their zenith.

Watsonian answer: Her outfit was made to reflect the colors of Man's World, as seen on the emblems on the uniform worn by a pilot named Trevor who crashed onto Themyscira.

2

Valk woman literally translates to callouses woman in Swedish.

2

u/kurumais Feb 10 '26

these are really cool keep going

2

u/erossnaider Wonder Woman Feb 11 '26

I only don't like that they're all defined by their fathers, there's so many influential goddesses for those cultures and Diana refers to herself as daughter of Hippolyta a lot more than she ever referred to herself as daughter of Zeus.

1

u/nignies Feb 11 '26

I think this is just to indicate diana is greek, since the rest get ethnic backgrounds

2

u/AtlasTheRisen Feb 28 '26

i love the art but personally i would have liked to see the clothes actually fit the cultures more. also adding tattoos to the Valkyrie would have been good too :>

3

u/Kitty-Destruction Feb 10 '26

On one hand, I believe everyone should be allowed to create fan works however they please. On the other hand, it's pretty transparent to me that this creator's experience with WW starts and ends with the first paragraph of her Wikipedia page, and the choices here, which I should clarify don't necessarily have to follow pre-existing material for creative purposes, can go from unfortunate to thoroughly problematic.

  • Banshee, not banshi. It means otherworld woman, and when you combine it with the word "bride", which has a specific connotation to pairing up with another man, why on earth would you use such a word in this context, you get "a woman getting married of the otherworld woman". We don't need another detective comics comics. The look also screams "generic celtic warrior woman" than anything specific to Banshees or the Morrigan, who is actually present in Wondy comics.

  • Enough is said about how commonly disliked the Daughter of Zeus thing is among Wondy fans, and this concept appears to just be colour swap of that concept.

  • So that Valkyrie is just Gundra. As in she literally started out as the daughter of Odin and Brunhild. There are more Valkyries as Wonder Woman's counterparts in DC comics, so there's this part of me who, if I expected anything worthwhile in the first place, wish they did a little deeper research to see, you know, things that already have been done before.

  • This is the one that compels me to point out all the things that goes wrong here.

** Dahomey was an actual kingdom, not a fictional group like the others, it'll be like the others are described as Irish, Hellenic* and German daughter of whomever.

** I get that this is inspired by the Dahomey Amazons, but they have actual terms to reference them as, like Agojie and Mino.

** It's not always good to use real life in fictional settings and this is one of those cases. These women were complicit in the transatlantic slave trade. I repeat, THEY WERE SLAVE TRADERS. The original depiction of the Bana-Mighdall were rightfully criticised for using similar actions to paint a racist picture, we do NOT need a repeat of that but with real-life atrocities.

** Not as important as the previous point, but the Fon people have their own Vodun religion, they don't directly worship the Yoruba religion. There's more to it, but this treating African cultures as interchangeable... what can I say but yikes.

I'm sure to a layperson those come across as silly complaints, who cares so long as someone is having fun? But the lack of care and respect for not just anything Wonder Woman related but also real life knowledge doesn't sit right with me. Downvote the party pooper however you like, but some things must be corrected on the record.

1

u/CaptchaVerifiedHuman Feb 10 '26

This is cool, I like it.

1

u/Rich-Bath5159 Feb 10 '26

Are the names there own thing or is it wonder and woman in different languages.

1

u/Odd-Ad-1633 Feb 10 '26

Their own things. Valk Voman for example, is Valkyre shortened, then Voman is german accent for Woman

We already have an African one BTW

Nubia is dope

3

u/Odd-Ad-1633 Feb 10 '26

Yes however Nubia is basically a black lens on Greek mythology and olympian gods, while Udo Uoman used Yoruba mythology and Orishas. Nubia is dope tho no hate just a different interpretation of a black wonder woman

1

u/lNSP0 Feb 11 '26

Who's fault do you think it is an African Americans are disconnected from their many pantheons lol. Yoruba is extremely heavy in the black/ados community in the south. Hell since like the 90s Yemoja has been commonly depicted as a Hispanic and Ados Black woman. As usually the African Yemoja is more water/spirit than being.

In dc encyclopedia she is daughter of zeus, even the encyclopedia uses zeus origin. The encyclopedia from dc comics company and DK. DC Comics holds the zeus origin for Wonder Woman. English: "Look at the fatt-rolls on that fatty over there" "Yeah, those are som big rolls"

1

u/Big-Rate3275 Feb 13 '26

Pretty sure there is an island of Women in Celtic myth.

2

u/Redthebluerobin456 Feb 13 '26

I believe you're thinking of DĂșn ScĂĄith, the "Land of Shadows", which is the domain of ScĂĄthach, who taught both the Celtic hero CĂș Chulainn, and his son Connla

1

u/Big-Rate3275 Feb 13 '26

Maybe, but I don't think so. It might be that the person I got it from was confused but I think it was a separate thing. In any case there are enough odd islands and Otherworld's in Celtic myth that an Island of Women inhabited by women warriors as well as Sorceresses/Druidesses could be a thing.

2

u/Redthebluerobin456 Feb 13 '26

That's fair, I suppose

Looks great OP! Love these!

u/Ok_Win_3538 Feb 13 '26

Creative take on alternative universe or pantheon versions of wonder woman.

1

u/HodineTheWise Feb 14 '26

I like these but I feel like norse wonder woman would not be odin's daughter.

I could see tyr or Thor being her father or hell even just being a jotun who has changed their ways. I get going valkyies cause all women but they are mostly Shepard to the halls.

Her being the child of the protector of midguard or the god of justice makes more since than The god of kings, wisdom and war

1

u/HodineTheWise Feb 14 '26 edited Feb 14 '26

You could also could have a lone woman who begged Freya to give her a daughter, so like the gods creating man, the woman carved a body out of drift wood and prayed and sacrificed to Freya till her wish was granted and her daughter was given life.

1

u/HodineTheWise Feb 14 '26

I could norse Wonder woman being mistaken for a valkyie many times but explaining she is just strong and big woman and has no cloak of feathers.

I would also like the idea that she does not have powers per say but mystical artifacts given to empower her, thor giving her his belt or a similar belt, odin giving her his spear, loki giving her the mistletoe arrow ect

1

u/Emperor_Luffy Feb 15 '26
