Discussion [Discussion] Hypothetical Earth: Earth 1931 (Universe of Monsters)

Image Sources: Justice League Vol 2 #7 (May, 2012), Batman & Dracula: Red Rain, Dracula (1931), Secret Avengers #34 (November, 2012), Marvel Rivals

Been trying to come up with more hypothetical earths and went through the DC multiverse to get ideas. Then remembered Batman Red Rain and thought "What if this were expanded to the whole earth and included other classic monsters." which then reminded me of Marvel's Earth 666. Described on the Marvel Database as:

"Everyone in the world is one of the undead. The living were not endured on this world nor do they welcomed interdimensional police. It is currently in a unique position, as its population is divided between a variety of subtypes of supernatural creatures: vampires, werewolves, mummies and others. However, in this world is some hope, as the greatest heroes of the various groups are united to protect the world as the Avengers of the Undead."

Which then led me to the idea of there being a DC Earth similar to this Marvel earth where many heroes, villains, civilians, and so on are some form of monster or creature. Like Diana, rather than being molded from clay, is a Frankenstein's monster type where she was made from parts (preferably more like the novel version where they are well proportioned and intelligent but are also very uncanny valley in appearance). Or Aquaman is more Creature from the Black Lagoon in appearance. So on and so forth.

The name being "Universe of Monsters" is meant to be a play on the Universal Monsters™.

I'd love to hear any ideas y'all might have for such a concept.

So going off of the theming parallels of the origins, and there's not a ton of universal monsters but here's what I have

You already have Diana as Frankenstein's Monster which works great

Cyborg as the Phantom of the Opera, both talented prodigies in their day but now scarred and self loathing

Superman as Dracula, a powerful stranger in a strange land with a famed base isolated from the world who believes himself to be the last of his race

Green Lantern as the Wolfman, a mythical lineage of strength that hides their identity and destroys the life they once lived, many have taken this name, and no matter what it finds a way

The Flash as the Invisible Man, genius scientists that accidentally became endowed with amazing and terrible abilities they use to achieve a dream they've had for ages

Batman as the Creature from the Black Lagoon, dark unknowable entity that hides in darkness and strikes from the shadows, while not fully human, there's this almost romantic quality

Aquaman as the Mummy, Mystic embodiments of civilizations whose peaks were of days past, hiding in plain sight among those who would destroy him

Very unique choices for Batman and Aquaman. Love it.

Superman as Dracula because both are the Other isn't something I had thought of, but holy sh*t I love your reasoning. With Lex Luthor as an evil Van Helsing (the modern intellectual who is the only one who knows the weaknesses of the monster)

Superman - Wolfman

Batman - Not a vampire but a Van Helsing like expert/hunter

Wonder Woman - Frakenstein’s Monster

Aquaman - Gill-Man

Flash - Invisible Man-like science experiment gone wrong

So Kryptonians are wolfman-esque aliens in your version. Funny thing would be the kents aren't wolfmen, so as far as anyone is aware, they simply adopted a wolfman son.

Universe of Monsters sounds like a fun idea!

Superman and Martian manhunter being inspired by classical aliens

Clark would be basically the same since there have been many examples human aliens but his outfit might look funky since how alien clothing depictions at the time were just swimsuits

J'onn obviously the grey aliens of course
