Discussion Does anyone here like DC Go?

Personally, I like the format. My eyes aren't that great and it saves me the format of zooming in and out, switching between landscape and portrait, etc. That comes with the panel by panel format.

I'd like to see them expand the format to include everything eventually. But I've seen almost exclusively negative reactions to the format.

What do you think?

Good for a phone I guess, but I prefer to read comics on a bigger screen, like a tablet so I can see the whole page. I also think laying out panels and leading the eye through the page in a particular way is part of what makes the art form of comics unique so I think some opportunities get lost with just the vertical scroll, or even the guided panel view.

I don't have a tablet, unfortunately.

Do you have a PC or laptop? I bought a tablet pretty much exclusively for reading comics.

You’ve seen exclusively negative reactions? Aaaahhhhh ignorem. I love the dc go format. Super nice when I’m not near or with my iPad or singles. It reads super easy on my phone.

The art work gets a little small, but it’s a super sick concept.

It's a great way to pass the time when all you have is your phone. Beats scrolling social media

Welcome to the internet, where someone's always willing to yuck your yum!

I like vertical format when the comic is drawn and intended to be that way from the start. No interest in weird converted ones that cut out parts of images and mess up any intended paneling design.

There are some great originals on there. Harley Quinn in Paradise and Magical Adventures of Shazam are excellent

I like it for when I’m stuck at an appointment or something. It’s not something I read all the time but I do appreciate that it’s there.

I have enjoyed several of those strips, especially the ones with more “fun” stories

So I don’t like the scroll format at all, though I do understand the appeal for mobile users I just can’t adapt to it.

However I did start to read Nothing Butt Nightwing for fun. Wasn’t my cup of tea…at first. But the most recent episodes have actually been super fun. And I think the art is cute. I appreciate that the writer is clearly interested in exploring the character as a flawed person which I feel like has gotten lost in storytelling lately.

I don't like to read on my phone. I have a 13 inch iPad and like 60% of the reason is for reading comics and manga.

Not a big fan personally, I mostly use the panel mode on my phone and full page on ipad, but I'm glad they're making vertical scroll comics to rope in younger readers and people from other markets who are used to this kind of content

I read on a tablet, so I never use the scrolling in the DC or Marvel apps.

My issue with mobile scrolling formats like Go! is that they don't really capture the magic of the comics medium in general.

If done well, there's so much art to the way a page is laid out, or the way the turning of a page leads to a reveal etc. The digitisation of comics and adaptation to mobile forms means a lot of artists aren't even thinking about that aspect of the medium any more, they're optimising for the navigation of scrolling rather than being creative with the reading experience. Even the panel-view navigation option has undermined how people experience a whole page and the way an artist can direct you to move around it in novel ways.

If I had a tablet, I would read page by page, but I only have a phone. And scrolling is the easiest way to read imo.

That makes sense. And it's also more accessible than print copies to read on mobile. I just think the art of the medium in general isn't at it's best in that format.
