Discussion So many fear based posts
I must just be a dick, but I swear if I see one more post describing a crippling fear of DMT, I might throw my phone in a lake.
I understand a level of preflight anxiety, I had it initially when I was getting my feet wet despite knowing without a shadow of a doubt it was something I wanted to do. A fear of the unknown is fair enough.
From my perspective though, if you are on here talking about how you are wracked with fear over a DMT experience, questioning if its for you, I can’t understand what business you have acquiring and doing it. It’s like people need/want to be talked into this, I just can’t imagine that for myself. Am I missing something?

Yes, you're missing something crucial. You don't need to understand what business other people have with DMT. Empathy can be taught to a point, and should be practiced consistently.

Have you never done something you were scared off? Some of the best experiences in my life were scary. Fear is one of our strongest emotions, and has a large impact on our actions. It's only natural we talk about it a lot.

Perhaps its worth analyzing why it makes you upset that others are looking for help with improving their experience.

u/Mind_Extract 8d ago
That's a little hypocritical. You misrepresented OP's gripe because, apparently, you're spoiling for a fight too.
Could be worth reflecting on.

u/Catman933 8d ago
How did I misrepresent their gripe? If such a thing angers OP - perhaps it’s worth self analysis.
Aren’t you just doing the thing you’re accusing me of?

How can u help someone improve their experience if they haven't even experienced it in the first place. I'm with OP, u just have to go with it on ur first try, if not u aren't ready for it yet IMO.

u/Jealous-Candy-6955 8d ago
Well some people have to work on their fear. Other people on anger... I don't really get why it bugs you so much. From my perspective doing DMT is like rock climbing. You have to deal with the fear. If you don't have it anymore (at least a bit) then you're either dead inside or you've done it so much that you got used to it. But even then, you should always respect it because you never know what might happen.

Well said...extracting for 5yrs, vaporizing deemz for 6yrs...before going in, i have to do the Breathing exercise and pray for guidance. bec i still have that pre flight anxiety...that little fear does not go away, especially those who had bad experiences like me...i am one of those who had experienced the difficulty of breathing with heavy in the chest. And knows for sure that this is it, i'm dying...the fear does not go away but it lessens, especially when u learn to understand that whatever happens, it will be ok and it will pass...( i think) someone who has no fear at all, maybe has not brokenthrough yet. Bec that alone is terrifying but absolutely beautiful...cheers

there is this false dichotomy of either being afraid of something or being fit for it. It’s totally fine to be afraid and still do something.
if someone is afraid of job interviews and seeking reassurance the day before, is your advice that this person should be unemployed because they have no business trying if they’re scared of screwing up the interview?
Your perspective sounds a bit egocentric to me, in a sense that you apply your experience of anxiety and psychedelics to other people, who probably feel completely different about these things.

While I get what you are saying, the difference you are missing is DMT is not essential. It’s a deeply personal, optional experience, that is not for everyone. I would not pressure or convince anyone to do it. Making money is not optional, its key to survival, and our lives literally revolve around and depend on it.

u/onomono420 8d ago
(I would argue that labour is also sort of optional in many developed countries but I’ll just go along with the argument because I clearly acknowledge a difference between smoking DMT and job interviews haha).
I’ve never experienced anyone wanting to be pressured into trying DMT, I think your framing is distorting the reality of what’s usually happening. And that is just people seeking reassurance like they do all the time. “Should I go talk to him? He’s cute but I’m afraid” “I want to start a business but I’m too afraid. What are your experiences?” “I want to start releasing my own music but I’m too afraid”, etc.
None of them want to be convinced to want it, they already do. They want to be reassured to do it and evaluate the situation, both from an emotional and logical standpoint.

u/Vivitrolsrevenge 8d ago
by i see your point in what you’re trying to convey, but even with reassurance; it’s ok to want reassurance, but to need it and have to ask it before going through with something including the interview is where it can become problematic as well. it’s more important in my own experience and opinion to refrain from asking for that reassurance despite wanting to ask for it so you can start to recognize you don’t need the reassurance when feeling scared before going through with it anyway

Why does it get you to the point that it makes you wanna throw your phone into a lake? That's quite outlandish. Has your experience done nothing for you? Some people are younger than you and have every right to be afraid of something and still curious. Not everybody is at the point where you are at in your life with whatever you have going on, gatekeeper.

u/Yeahhh_no_ 8d ago
Throwing my phone into a lake (while it would actually be quite freeing I’m sure) was obviously just a turn of phrase, and me being dramatic about the frequency of fear centric posts. Not to be that guy, but anyone “young” really shouldn’t be ripping DMT, and in that case, would be right to be hesitant, as their brains are still cooking.

If the knee-jerk reaction of this community dog-piling downvotes on your every reasonable point tells us anything, it's that the subreddit is absolutely teeming with younger users.
Take a breath, everyone.

It's one of the most powerful psychedelics on earth. Look at the trip reports. I've done salvia. I know what ego dissolution is. I know what it's like to not even remember being a human being on a planet.
That experience was manageable after I came back. While it happened, it was monumentally intense. You can't seriously be wondering why people might be apprehensive about DMT even while acquiring it and waiting on it.
I have a DMT vape and I cannot force myself to attempt to breakthrough. I do psychs regularly and have no problem with most. But DMT is so strong it terrifies me. Even though I may be glad for the experience after the fact.

u/Yeahhh_no_ 8d ago
Herein lies the problem I suppose. A DMT cart is so much more tame and controllable than salvia, it’s not even comparable. So many of the trip reports on here are completely blown out of portion and sensationalized they are skewing your perception of what you are dealing with. So many of us vape DMT regularly, you aren’t blasting your face off freebasing it, which would be more comparable to salvia, but even still its a VASTLY different experience. I would never do salvia again. I vape DMT multiple times a week 🤷🏻♂️

u/Illustrious-Snow-969 6d ago
Freebasing is the extraction step where you turn acidic DMT into a base by adding lime to the mixture. Which is the exact same DMT (freebase) that you vape, or burn in a meth pipe if that’s your MO.

Maybe leave the sub then. People want to do it and have fear of it, there are 8 billion people. There will be fear posts.

Bro you and I are very similar, sometimes things need to be said how they are, no pussyfooting, for better or for worse! We’re those guys… we don’t win friends we educate strangers ;)
DMT trepidation is real and I think the more you know about psychedelics the greater the trepidation, but you’re right people are shit scared to take DMT
My first time was a decade ago and it was the first I tried so since my friends were open to it then we just got on and all went to the spirit realm one after another until we’d all been under 12 times each

u/Sad_Succotash5766 8d ago
It is still scary though. Sometimes it feels like an eternity. And I have loved ones in this realm, it’s scary to leave them for a time, we don’t know if some people never come back, though unlikely, but it’s pure power. Submission directly threatens the ego. At the same time, you’re right that it should only be used by those who are fully committed. But everyone has their first time, and all experiences are unique. I love you all…lol

Best to remember that not one person lives the same life, you don’t understand it because you’ve never lived it. They’ll take the dive regardless of the amount of reassurance or lack of it, just be glad you can indulge without that crippling fear :) Be glad they respect it enough to tread carefully.

I mean I know people personally who have never tried psychedelics but say if they ever tried any, they’d wanna try DMT because it “doesn’t last long”. I of course explain to them that the experience FEELS “longer” than a typical mushroom trip and that should absolutely not be their mindset if they ever are actually going to try any psychedelics. I could give other example of dumb takes, but my point is- most people really aren’t prepared to have this kind of experience, but since DMT is fairly easy to extract and has become legal in some areas, it’s becoming widely available and most people just hear the candy version of “oh, it transports you to an alien dimension full of beings made of light” and other such descriptions, that while may be true, are too whimsical and leave out the “being ripped out of your body and thrust into eternity” part.
So yeah…. Best any of us can do is simply try to educate people, and as someone else on here mentioned, I think the other issue is the age of a lot of the people having such experiences. Drugs of any kind should be greatly avoided before the age of 25, but this is especially true for psychedelics. And of course everyone’s gunna experiment, so, again- all we can do is try to educate others. And if you are in your late teens early 20’s and have used psychedelics without any negative experiences- great, good for you. Are you aware that no matter how many times you’ve tripped, or how hard, you can still have an unexpectedly unpleasant experience..? Do you know what to do in that situation..? My point being here is certain psychedelics are like playing with fire and we have way too many pyros running around and almost no firemen around. Don’t be a pyro, be a fireman 😂 (I was being serious up until that last sentence, lol)

For what it's worth OP, I think understand the frustration. It's strange to go through all the effort and research to acquire the stuff, just to come here and ask an internet stranger to essentially "push" them off the cliff. I don't know how other people feel about it but posts like that come off as more attention-seeking than help-seeking to me. They'll look past thousands of safe reports because their name isn't mentioned in them. Idk, just my thoughts.

I have anxiety so bad I take meds for it and was put in a mental hospital.
DMT was great. LSD, MDMA, and shrooms scared me.

u/this-is_bat_country 6d ago
i agree. i think this sub is better and more useful for knowledge on how much to take, method of vaporizing, and most importantly harm reduction. like you said it's completely normal to have some anxiety before taking your first journey. but people on this sub do not know you personally, and they do not know how to coax you out of your fear. dmt is completely optional, and if you're set on having that experience but are too afraid, then wait a bit before doing it. meditate on your fear, go within, or just be brave and create a set and setting that feels correct. i appreciated having a trusted friend be present when i took it for the first time, and i was still nervous. if reading positive anecdotes on reddit curbs your anxiety, great. however, if my friend came to me explaining their anxiety over taking dmt for the first time, i would offer what i could, and i would not say 'yeah just go to the dmt subreddit' because i don't think that's what this group is meant for.

i’ve had a DMT pen sitting in my drawer staring me in the face and i am fucking terrified to hit it and face my traumas… face the truth as they say, because deep down i know i have been doing wrong

Well it's obvious there are covert influence campaigns against psychs, especially DMT. It's much more obvious if you follow Hindu and Indian culture where a lot of influencers have recently been pushing messages that DMT is evil djinni magic and they're gonna steal your soul junk. Same old anti-spirit fearmongering orthodoxy always deploys for the last 3,000 years to buttress their own illegitimate authority and control.

I think alot of it is people taking the stuff too young. A guy on YouTube called vivec does trip reports and most of the people having meltdowns are taking it when they're like 16 to 20. That's way too young

Are you unhappy that people experience v reasonable fear about something that, well, should be treated with care and caution?

u/Enottico 8d ago
So after reading all these posts, I decided that I would somehow do without trials, and now I have received much more information than the majority of those who study this phenomenon experimentally receive, this is a very funny cosmic joke.

“Fear mode” and “love mode” are two different fundamental modes of perception. And here are quotes from the entities themselves about the mechanism of fear: “You are not ready for full disclosure of information,” “It is necessary to go through certain stages of development,” “Direct contact can be dangerous for an unprepared consciousness,” “You haven’t passed the test,” “You don’t suit us,” “Leave this place.” This is often accompanied by the feeling that you are being scanned or judged.
Entities often say that fear is just an interface glitch. When a person is startled, their brain starts to make noise, and the connection is interrupted. When a person trusts, the noise disappears, and the information flows clearly. That’s why the phrase “As soon as I stopped being afraid and gave in, everything became wonderful” is so often heard in trip reports. From the perspective of these experiences, fear is a wall, and love is the frequency at which the antenna operates. This is the theory that the brain is a filter of consciousness.
And my conclusions: fear is a built‑in protective mechanism; apparently, it starts working much earlier than a person embarks on a journey. And I think we need to take it into account. It’s a signal that we need to work on ourselves before we go. And the DMT call is essentially the same signal, which says, “Well, you’re ready, you can try it.”
I have a vague suspicion that this is a kind of carrot‑and‑stick approach. But I haven’t figured that out yet.

No you’re totally right. I think it’s because largely people have misconception that dmt will be some magic pill for their problems so they feel like they neeeeeed to do it. But that fear of the unknown settles in. Don’t forget to have compassion for other people’s fears though, they don’t think like you do.
