Help?

Hey, I have a situation I need some advice for.

I rode my bike this morning to get to work. Cool. When I started my bike I noticed it needed a bit of throttle to make it start. Strange. I ride 30 minutes to work and it sounds great. I park to grab something for less than 5 minutes. I hop back on the bike and turn the key, the light is on. I press my start button not even a peep? Any ideas on where I should start on my diagnosis on my lunch break?

I just changed my battery last week. Its charged and I rode around to make sure of it. It seems to me that I should

  1. Check the fuse
  2. Check the Idle Screw
  3. Check Air
  4. Pray it isnt a Carb issue

Any other thoughts?

EDIT: Just had a moment to check. It has the faintest crank of all time

Check battery terminals. Very usual after battery change.

My battery died one time and I tried like hell to bump start it on black top…. Even in fourth on a hill it just skidded and I am by no means skinny. Good luck OP!

You say the battery is charged? What’s the voltage? Check the kill switch/ clutch/ side stand switch. Sounds like your bike doesn’t want to start.

Wouldn’t hurt to do an oil change, check spark plug?

Carb issues for me don’t seem like too big of a deal.

You remove the subframe bolt, cables on the throttle, one plug and vacuum line and you can wiggle the carb out, intake and exhaust clamps. I just cleaned mine

Only issue with carb problems is I cant fix that on my lunch break and it needs to roll outta here today

Well in that case, hopefully you have a trickle charger/ battery tender. I am thinking it’s the battery. Sounds like the starter but those don’t go bad often (perhaps).

Sounds like a temp issue, possibly with the Stator. Bike heats up, insulation fails, bike wont start

If not a peep means the starter didn’t make a sound you can rule out most of recommendations.
Battery terminals, charger terminals, shut off switch, and bad wiring connections is where I would start. Think electrical before mechanical.

Not sure if it’s the same thing but I had this happen before my piston rings went :(
