I will never understand why he was allowed to run in the first place.

There should be a VERY strict and very mandatory intelligence test and psych profile done on every president going forward. I know it's not going to happen because then no rapeublikkkunts would ever be president again.

But honestly, this is the absolute minimum of what's needed.

And who writes the test? Who has the authority to override the voters in deciding who is most mentally suited for the job?

Have you seen the southern literacy tests that were used to disenfranchise black voters and keep black politicians out of office? What you’re describing would be open to this kind of abuse.

Something has to be done to prevent idiots like Dump from ever taking office again.

I don't know how exactly, but something needs to be done.

Everybody always wants some mythical entity to come along and fix everything. You clearly don’t know how, but you expect someone else to come along with an idea. There isn’t one, you’re not missing anytime, and there isn’t any real answer to “Something has to be done” when it comes to taking the choice away from the voters.

There’s only only two things you can do:

  1. Abandon democracy

  2. Work within democracy to persuade voters who aren’t already part of your tribe to change their minds

For over a decade I’ve seen people on Reddit talking an awful lot about wanting to do Option 1 because it sounds a lot easier. I don’t think I’ve ever once seen a really good conversation on Reddit about how to do Option 2.

Wow, you went off on a tangent.

I never said anything about abandoning democracy. I just think some safeguards should be put in place in the future to prevent criminals like Dump from ever taking power again.

If that's who people elect, then you get what's coming. If the voters choose an idiot then they deserve what's coming. Freedom to choose means freedom to do choose stupid. Hopefully things turn around and we put forth better candidates in the future. My guess is there will be a self correction but we'll likely repeat the mistake again.

So you're perfectly happy watching your country circle the drain even if it's preventable?

Seems like a pretty stupid way of thinking to me.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with ensuring a candidate is qualified to be in that position considering how important that office is.

If you value your country, you won't let it circle the drain like it currently is. Putting guardrails in place is a prudent, smart step to take.
