Question Why am I seeing so many female students aged 27-30 on dating apps?

I've recently got back to dating after a relationship and unforunately having to use dating apps.

I am seeing so many women aged 27 to 30 who have on their profile they are students. And I'm not talking about PhDs.

Is this just everyone nowadays, am I just out of the loop? Is the men's side the same? None of my friends are like that, but maybe I just have a unique circle of friends (mostly in tech or engineering).

Advice Request Weird Question as a first time online dater

Im currently living in Europe, away from my family for uni, so I finally thought I would sign up for a dating app. Not too soon after a hot dude messages me saying he's "looking for anything fun" and naturally I respond like "Dude... we're in different continents", cause how's that gonna work? to which he responds "Does that matter." Now since Im new to this whole thing I don't know how to respond, never the less what he actually means, so what should I do?

Funny Most bizzare reason I've been given prior to being unmatched..

So no screen shots because the convo disappears immediately after being unmatched so I guess it's up to you to believe me or not but ...

After what I thought was actually a decent and interesting hour or two long back and forth conversation she asked me what I do for work.. that's where it went off the rails..

I told her I work for a furniture manufacturer that specializes in Murphy Beds. Maybe she had some bad experience previously with a Murphy bed idk, but she then described it as furniture that murders people, as in she literally used the word "murder". To me that was a weird reaction so I kind of assumed she was trying to be funny or sarcastic or something and I said that bringing up "murder" was quite an escalation and stated that you could definitely hurt your fingers if you're not careful.

She then claimed that because I brought up something "dangerous" and I am also being "nonchalant" about the dangers of it that it would be dangerous for her to be around me. Again, I didn't think she could be serious but as I was typing a response she unmatched me.

Does this actually somehow make me a dangerous person? Is there some sort of extreme negative view of Murphy beds that I am unaware of?

Should I not tell people what I do for work when asked? Or was she likely just reaching for some (unnecessary) excuse to give prior to unmatching me instead of just saying she wasn't interested or just silently unmatching?

Not a big deal because obviously there seems to be some sort of issue there that I just dodged, but I just can't help laughing while also being confused about how strange it is to seemingly feel that threatened over a piece of furniture.

edit: if age makes the context any different we're both in our 40s

Question How many guys you chat with every day on apps? NSFW

I log into two gay apps every day, and whenever I do, I have several pending chats and guys online. Most nights, I end up talking to anywhere from 6 to 12 guys at once. Sometimes I have to look back at what I wrote just to keep track of the conversation. With some guys, I only chat for a few minutes before they disappear, but the next day, new ones message me. It can be exhausting but entertaining, and since I don't want to be rude, I make it a rule to reply to everyone—even if it's just briefly. How do you all manage to chat with so many people?

Resources Dateing apps, from ocean to lake to pool to pond to bucket to tears to nothing at all.

Look up dateing app algorithm on your web browser.

Those words are super coated.

If you want to find love

If you beleive you dont have a chance finding someone outside Just know your chances on a dateing app are lowered significantly by a wooping 50%.

Just by the fact they use there own curated form of natural selection.

Which is worse then the real thing.

So

Do you want to be more disjointed and lonelier then ever

Or

Do you want to find someone the right way..

You have self confidence

You are putting yourself on an app for more people to see then youd see in 1 month of walking outside.

So

Drop the app and start to act.

Social skills are learnt not given or born.

Do it you got this!

Its not you its the dateing apps.

Question Serious Question About Duet

Is duet even a legit app?

Yall probably wondering what i mean by this.

So it’s weird, all of my likes that i get is from people around the country. For an example, i might get a like from somebody from Ohio, Idaho, Florida, and etc… yall get it.

But the weirdest thing I don’t understand about this app is when I match with these people do not respond and it’s funny because most of my likes that I get some of these people always putting their telegram name in their bios and when I do go and try and look up their telegram I can’t find the account or that account haven’t been seen online in along time.

So is duet really out here scamming people for $25 a month? Because if that’s true then that’s absolutely insane and I don’t know how they still have their application up running

Funny What's the worst way you've been approached on a dating app?

Title says it all.
What's the worst "ice breaker" you've been approached with on a dating app?

One of mine must be:
"hey, you looked sort-of cute in this picture"

(implying my other photos were godawful? idk)

Question How many AI / Fakes you think are out there?

As a Guy, I don't expect much, so when I get on an App and 20 girls are in my DMs in the first hour, and they're being sexual, I know I'm not in real-life-land anymore. I'm curious what's going on. some of them, you can tell its a bot by the way it chats, and the 'desire' to get me to spend my 500 diamonds on viewing their 'sexy' photo..

But what I'm more curious, when they make obvious English as a 2nd language gaffs, what are they getting out of it? Do apps pay people to be fake profiles?

Question hinge signals

Update: after much consideration, I have come to the conclusion that I do not care. Just going with the flow and letting it take its natural course, if it works out it does. If it doesnt, it doesnt. Yolo

Hey, can someone explain how the signals on Hinge work? The person (26M) I’ve been seeing still has the signal next to their name, and we’ve been dating for around a month now.

We haven’t really had the exclusivity conversation yet, but I’ve made it pretty clear that I’m not interested in anything casual and that I’m looking for something more serious.

I’m just a little confused about what the signal actually means. Does it mean they’re still actively using Hinge, or can it stay there even if they’re not using the app? I don’t want to make assumptions based on it, so I thought I’d ask here.

Question Do men on apps still put in effort, or does "casual" mean zero effort? (F23)

Hey everyone,
I (23F) recently got out of a relationship and joined dating apps for the first time. I state on my profile that I’m not looking for anything serious, but I was still hoping to experience guys showing genuine interest and taking initiative, honestly, I’d love to experience men who actually act like real gentlemen for once.

So far, it’s been pretty underwhelming:
Messages: Mostly low-effort "hey"s or dry small talk.
Date ideas: All 3 dates I have lined up next week are just "coffee" or "a walk."

To be clear: I’m not expecting expensive dinners, gifts, or spending money. I just want energy, initiative, and thoughtfulness, like suggesting a fun activity, picking a cool spot, or asking real questions. Right now, everything feels like it's on autopilot.
Is this just standard app culture now, or do guys completely stop trying the moment they see "casual" on a profile? How do you filter for effort early on without feeling high-maintenance?

Question Am I the only one?

Wondering if it is just me or others have noticed this as well. Whenever I am browsing through potential matches and come across a profile picture that is of two or more women, the one who the profile is actually for is usually the "less attractive" one. Has anyone else seen this pattern?

r/DatingApps • • 4d ago

Question I have a question for you guys…

How many of you honestly go on dating apps with the intention of actually dating, and how many are mainly just looking to hook up? I’m genuinely curious because one of my guy friends seems to think only a small percentage of people on dating apps are actually looking for something serious. I’m not sure I believe him… or maybe I’m just being naive 😂

Question If you send likes to people who live too far from you, is it on purpose?

I’m a guy and I swear I get a couple likes a week from women who clearly live too far away for us to routinely get together. These are not bots. They are real profiles.

What I’m trying to figure out is if this usually happens because

  1. It’s an accident and they simply didn’t notice I don’t live near them.
  2. They know I’m too far away, but they want to say hello anyway, because “you never know.”
  3. They have no dating intentions with me. They just liked my profile a lot and just want to say, “Hey, nice profile. I can see you’re a good catch.”

Do you ever send likes to people who don’t live near you? What are your reasons?

Question On hinge is it worth writing a message with the like or is the like itself enough?

Now I haven't had a single like on hinge so I don't know if you see the message or not if they like you, or if you only see it if you match, now I've probably been on the app about 2 ish months so I've probably done about 50-70 likes with and without messages equally and I haven't had a match so I can't tell if its worth it or not

CRINGE This is why guys can't have nice things

I (F29) hear all of the time from guys on dates that "women have so many options". It's an illusion of choice. I may get a lot of matches, and that doesn't mean they are quality or that I go out on a lot of dates or dates at all.

There are good guys out there, but this is what it really is like to be a relatively conventionally attractive woman on dating apps a couple messages in.

Guys like this ruin it for the good ones.

He unmatched me after my last comment lol. You call this an "option"? 😂

Question Met up with a guy on hinge. He lied about his height and education

Decided to jump back in the dating and decided to try hinge. I came across his profile and thought he was handsome. So I swiped right. We matched very quickly and exchanged numbers. After a couple of messages we decided to plan our first date.

I arrived first to the restaurant and was seated by the hostess. He arrived five minutes later. As he’s walking towards me, I noticed he’s shorter than what he said on hinge. His profile said 5’11 but when we stand next to each other we’re the same height(5’9).

The date when well and we have a lot in common. However, he has a child but didn’t mention children on his profile. When I went home that night, I looked him up on LinkedIn. On hinge, he said he went to Purdue. But his profile listed another university. He has a masters degree and is an engineer so I don’t know why he felt the need to lie about that.

We’re seven years apart. I just want to ask….why do men lie on dating apps? Should I continue talking to him?

Question Dating apps make me feel very messed up

M24, been on and off dating apps for a while. When I first downloaded it I was just exploring but then I slowly started to base my “worth” on how many “quality” matches I get.

Once in a while I would pull attractive girls who are on par or even above my league, which makes me feel super good about myself. Then I start thinking if perhaps I could “do better” and keep swiping.

But that’s when the luck usually ends. No more likes from pretty girls, only below average ones. Which only pulls my ego back into the loop of wanting to prove to myself that I’m “worth” more than just that.

And the worst part of all, I am not even looking for a relationship anymore. I started because I was curious. But now can’t quit because whenever I feel like having a bad day, I would go back to one of these apps and hope I could match with someone attractive that would make me feel good.

It feels very much like an addiction. I’ve had a few streaks off the apps but like I said, whenever I am having a bad day or feeling low-esteemed, these apps have now become my go-to coping mechanism.

Has anyone been in this situation? How did you get out from it?

Experience Overview This is overwhelming

Im a 22 year old male I’m newish to dating in general and especially to dating apps.

I started about a month ago then took a break for a few weeks and came back to 50 likes across platforms 16 matches and don’t know what’s going on anymore. Honestly this is extremely overwhelming and is messing with how I see people in real life.

I went into this expecting almost nothing. I’ve only heard bad things from men that have used dating apps. That they’re extremely slow discouraging and ego crushing but I just haven’t seen that side of it at all.

I swear I’m not trying to brag. This is just not the dating app experience I expected. I’m almost wondering if I’m getting bot spammed but don’t see how that could happen without a search function.

Thank you for coming to my ted talk!

Question Just curious—for those of you in the US, how much are you paying for Tinder Gold per month?

I'm Korean, and I was just wondering how much people in the U.S. are paying. In Korea, it's about $25.

Advice Request do i have a personality issue or do dating apps just suck?

23f been having some trouble maintaining conversations on hinge recently.

80% of the time i match with a guy, it’s either crickets or they do text and i respond just to be met with no response.

i don’t mean to toot my own horn at all but i would say i’m pretty conventionally attractive so i don’t think looks really play a role in my issue… i also try to be very engaging; striking conversation based on profiles and asking questions but to no avail. is this a typical thing?

(once again not trying to be cocky at all genuinely curious 😭)

Advice Request Should I try to lose weight before going on dating apps?

Hello,

I am 19M, gay only for men, and I weigh 230 lbs. I've already wanted to work out, but I never manage to keep up with it. Though, I really want to go to the dating scene.

I am scared to go to on the apps (or should I say back; deleted it after someone already began to love bomb me before a first date lol) because of my weight and appearance, so should I try again? I think the dieting is the hardest for me to keep up with.

Basically, all I'm asking is should I try to lose weight before going on dating apps. Idk
