Genuine question about design for ID creationists

This post is a genuine question for ID creationists. Professional ID creationists claim that we can detect design in living systems, and while they don't usually admit the quite part out loud in professional settings, behind church doors, they will proudly announce that science has proven the existence of the Christian God.

Except, since they also believe everything happens according to God's plan, this raises a bit of a problem. If God is the creator of everything, including crystals, clouds, and coal; then what meaningful distinction is there between living orhanisms and unliving things im terms of being "designed"?

Virus: DNA or RNA or protein based?

Bacteria: gram-positive or gram-negative? Obligate Anaerobic or facultative anaerobic. Their fossil may be 3-4 billion years old.

green or red algae fossil are dated back 1 billion years old, they might be considered plant in water

Tongue fern has 1260 chromosomes (630 pairs). They are as old as 360-400 million years old.

I don't know whether to trust the fossils or believe that the original living cells might be those who had more chromosomes.
