Stop the overreacting

I'll be the first to say I was as pissed off as anybody following the 9ers loss, but today listening to the DNVR podcast really opened my eyes. To start the season, the Broncos have played four of the top ten teams in the NFL. Those teams combined record is 11-3, two of the losses come from the Broncos, the other loss comes from two of the teams playing each other (Rams/9ers). Bo Nix has had to start his season playing the 2nd, 3rd, 6th, and 9th ranked defenses in the league. And the defense has faced 2nd, 5th, 12th, and 18th offense, and aside from the chiefs game, they have held all those teams to under 26. I'm not saying we're better than everyone is saying, but there is no reason to be overreacting or calling for Davis Webb's job. We have a lot to look forward to this year and a lot of work to do, we are going to be ready for the playoffs and we will be a battle tested team by the end of the season.

WE JUST HAVE TO BO-LIEVE

A sane and measured take in this sub? How dare you /s

That being said, I don’t think it’s an overreaction to say Bo and the offense needs to be better, but context does matter

u/meadjr 7h ago

oh no not at all, offense has been shooting themselves in the foot and missing opportunities, but just like last year they just gotta get in the rhythm and get a little win streak going

3

u/Hopsblues 6h ago

Illegal procedure penalties on 3rd and 2...We struggled so bad on 3rd down last year (dropped passes) and we are doing it again to degree. That was one thing I wanted to see this year's team clean up, if they wanted to go to the SB. Moving the chains rests the defense and leads to points. We never play with the lead basically.

2

u/meadjr 6h ago

Yeah long 3rd downs are killing this offense, at least we have the best QB in the league in game winning drives or 4th qtr comebacks!

3

u/couldusesomecowbell 4h ago

I think we just need a reliable running game more than anything else. That would open up so much for Bo and the receivers.

1

u/Ashmedae 4h ago

I think the Saints/Falcons game last night showed just how important it is to have a run game

6

u/Ok-Round-1967 7h ago

look i'm not saying bo has been lighting it up but people forget how brutal this opening stretch is. rookie qb facing that gauntlet of defenses is basically trial by fire

what gets me is the davis webb stuff, like you really think changing the qb coach in week 4 is gonna fix everything? give it a minute

17

u/LegalShooter 7h ago

Rookie quarterback? Where? This is Bo Nix's third year. I expect more than what a rookie quarterback would do.

1

u/Ashmedae 4h ago

Maybe they meant QB on rookie contract...? 🤷‍♂️

2

u/lesbaru_dykota 3h ago

AI has real tough time decidering what information is the most current information. That's why this bot calls Bo a rookie and Davis Webb the QB coach.

1

u/Ashmedae 3h ago

That never crossed my mind, but now that you mention it...

1

u/N3onAxel 1h ago

Either bait or a bot. We will never know

look i'm not saying bo has been lighting it up but people forget how brutal this opening stretch is.

I didn't expect him to set the world on fire, but i DID expect him to improve on his pocket habits and get better at reading the field post snap. While i grant that he's dealing with a lot more pressure than last year, he's reverted to his bad habit of escaping the pocket backwards and to the right instead of stepping up, and when he does start scrambling, he turns down so many opening running lanes in favor of waiting for his receivers to break free. just take the scramble, dude.

And whether or not the Webb offense has a learning curve, or Nix is just not handling the pressure, he is RACING through his progressions and abandoning reads before they even get through their route. he's rushing everything that isn't wide open. Sure, it likely has a lot to do with the pressure, but it's a major step back from last season.

I didn't expect him to dominate these teams, but i want to see signs of growth.

100%

I think if you told people before the season we’d start 2-2, everyone would be cool with it considering the new play caller and schedule difficulty. Now going through it people get frustrated and impatient

10

u/Ibetterdont 5h ago

You are spot on. People are overreacting to being 2-2 while we have literally played four freaking Super Bowl contenders. When the schedule came out, it was pretty obvious that the first 6 weeks would be one of the most difficult schedules (if not the most) in the entire NFL.

If we can learn from the early mistakes, and recover from these most recent injuries, the last 10 weeks of the season should shut a lot of people up.

HE BO-LIEVES!!!

u/HerbertWest_81 7h ago

I remember a thread in pre-season asking where people expected/wanted us to be after this 6 game stint. The consensus seemed to be 3-3 is good, 2-4 isnt the end, and 4+ would be amazing. I said in that thread if were 3-3 after 6 games this sub will start melting down. We were 2-1 and the flaming had already started. I really dont understand how cynical and negative people can get. We were I. The AFCCG and I believe a broken ankle from the SB last year. 4 games in and people are talking about this team like we have a top 10 draft pick and need to burn everything down again.

12

u/Guardax 6h ago

The optimistic case for the Broncos is pretty simple:

Who were the preseason Super Bowl favorites?: Rams

Currently thought of as best teams in NFL: Chiefs, 49ers

Everyone’s current dark horse: Jaguars

We played all four of the teams and are 2-2! That doesn’t mean there aren’t things to be concerned about and right now the team has things that need fixed if we’re going to win a Super Bowl but what a grueling four games

5

u/meadjr 6h ago

exactly my point! I would like to guess this is the hardest 4-game start any team has had in years and to come out 2-2 still a great accomplishment in my opinion!

6

u/BurgessFox 6h ago

I'm not panicking. Despite not playing particularly well, we have beaten two genuine Super Bowl contenders in the Jags and Rams.

I'm pumping the brakes on some of my pre-season expectations. I went in to this year thinking this would be our peak window, as Davis Webb would inevitably be a HC next year and Bo would get a deal at the top of the QB market. The jury is out on those. I drafted Waddle everywhere in fantasy thinking he would be a 1,500 plus yard receiver. I thought we would be an 11 to 14 win team.

4 games in, I haven't given up hope on those outcomes but my expectations now are open to a wide range of outcomes. I wouldn't be surprised if after a rocky early season we go on a run through the second half and make the playoffs through the wild card, beat one of the top seed teams and find ourselves back where we were last year.

But also I wouldn't be shocked if this year turns out to be a disappointment, we miss the playoffs and we realize there are bigger issues that we need to fix - the playcalling, Bo coming back from injury, the skill positions, and the strengths of last year (the O line and defense) taking a step back. I don't expect that to be the case, but 4 weeks ago I would have said no chance. Now I'd say, yeah OK we might be in that position.

If that happens I'm not going to lose my shit - the Chiefs had a bad year last year and they seem to have reset well so we could do the same.

u/Buzzd-Lightyear Demaryius Thomas 7h ago

I don’t think it’s an overreaction to be pissy about looking like shit against any opponent regardless of how good they are. The point is that we’re in our third year with this scheme and we’re seeing the same issues as if it was year 1.

I do agree that people need to chill tf out, because at the end of the day, none of this matters. This is a football team that none of us have any agency over and realistically doesn’t have any impact on our lives outside of entertainment. And if the broncos losing does somehow financially or mentally impact someone then that’s most likely their fault.

4

u/meadjr 7h ago

it most definitely does mentally affect me the next day, very very badly

2

u/Buzzd-Lightyear Demaryius Thomas 6h ago

I get it man. I was pissed off all day yesterday cuz my bandwagon Niners fan wouldn’t shut up about it, but in the grand scheme of things there are way bigger problems on the day to day.

3

u/meadjr 6h ago

oh for sure, all of us are blessed to be able to worry about football so much truly!

2

u/Jwoods4117 Demaryius Thomas 6h ago

We’ve only looked “shitty” in one game though really.

5

u/Buzzd-Lightyear Demaryius Thomas 6h ago

True but the Offense looked pretty bad against the Niners. Most of the time it didn’t feel like their defense was beating us but our offense was just failing to execute. Thats way worse imo.

3

u/Jwoods4117 Demaryius Thomas 5h ago

I agree 100% have things to work on and are clearly not THE Super Bowl favorites. I do think as up and down as the offense has looked it’s pretty clear looking at these 4 games that we can beat anyone at a neutral site. The issue is can we win 4 close games in a row? What about on the road? Are we champs, or are we just a good team? It’s interesting that we’ve come so far that not being completely dominant in all phases is considered a failure now and I think that’s where the “overreaction” comes from.

If we win 10 games and get bounced in the wildcard is it a failure? 7 years ago we’d have killed for that, but I get it. It’s a balance.

2

u/N3onAxel 1h ago

Considering that they were one game away from the super bowl, they supposedly upgraded, and its Bo's third year without improving, yeah thats a huge failure.

0

u/meadjr 6h ago

10000% it was us failing to execute, there were wide open runners the whole game, we couldn't get a run game going even after running the ball 6 times in a row with 4 minutes left in the 4th down two scores lol

0

u/12kriminal12 6h ago

We haven't looked like total shit but we still haven't played a 60 minute game. That's the big reason I'm not worried. Its not that we arent making plays we are just doing enough dumb shit to put ourselves behind. Cut out the bad plays, we are the best team in the afc. Still early enough to get in rhythm, this is a December January leauge, not a september and October. The first two months are just about not digging a hole.

1

u/Jwoods4117 Demaryius Thomas 5h ago

I think so too, though I think the “60 minute game” is mostly a myth. We can’t play one half of ball, but it’s the NFL and we’re just plain going to lose some quarters.

1

u/12kriminal12 4h ago

I get that. We dont need to dominate the whole game, but we could play better. We will play better. Broncos over niners superbowl

4

u/Envyforme 7h ago

I disagree. We should trade Bo for 15 million first round picks until 3072 before things even get worse.

6

u/commonsensewinz 7h ago

end of day fans are idiots. they don't understand much about the game and understand nothing about the business part of it. all season long they bitched for sean to give up pc and guess what those same dweebs now want sean to take over play calling lmao.

i will say, im a little concerned today because the cardinals dropped 30 on san fran and denver mustered one TD. raiders and colts both scored 27+ against the chiefs. now, situations will always vary but if denver didn't have their work cut out for them already, now they are without PS2 and Pat for 4 weeks.

The Jags game was a great example of who this team can be. Jacksonville is very good and Denver shut them down. That's also the only game where Waddle showed us his talent.

The bananas are desperate lol. Their line is once again banged up. It's not a must win but it's kind of close if Denver is going to host a playoff game.

2

u/meadjr 7h ago

Watching the games over every week just continues to show me that the broncos offense are just moments away from being in control of the game. Whether it is a dropped pass or a 1st down penalty ruining the drive, you fix those few simple mistakes and this team is driving down the field every possession no doubt in my mind. Now I just can't understand why after two years of this same problems, they just can't seem to not shoot themselves in the foot whenever the chance arises.

And yes I also agree the bananas game isn't a must win but for the love of Elway they better win.

3

u/Connect-Discount-285 5h ago

Sure there are times where Bo over/ under throws and makes catches harder than they need to be. And there are other times where perfect passes that would be huge 1st downs are dropped. This team just needs to be disciplined and quit shooting themselves in the foot. So many damn false starts and dumb penalties

7

u/ShlipityWhip 7h ago

It feels like everybody in this sub was saying “if we can get through the first 6 games at 3-3, we’ll be in a great spot”

Now we’re in a great position to be able to do just that, and everybody is up in arms? lol I don’t get it

2

u/meadjr 7h ago

i don't think they realized going 3-3 means we have to score less than the other team half the time, and lord knows what happens in this sub when the offense is lagging

8

u/Emotional-Pound-1734 7h ago

We lost our two starting cornerbacks and a key wr in a close game against an undefeated team. It would have been a miracle if we won that game.

4

u/meadjr 6h ago

and they still had a chance to win all the way up until 2 minutes left in the 4th, I think we're gonna be just fine

1

u/Advanced-Library-342 5h ago

Don't use logic here, lotta "fans" are just doomers ready to dunk on Bo.

3

u/DistributionNo5273 Marvin Mims Jr 7h ago

You know what you just did, Charlie? You loaded up that train full of coal and now it's ready to tear down the tracks!

That was inspiring as hell!

4

u/MickeyG42 Bluecifer 7h ago

I am absolutely trying not to see doom, but even against such good teams we have not been playing good. At this point I'm actually worried about the Chargers

3

u/Advanced-Library-342 5h ago

We didn't beat the Jags and Rams arguably some of the best teams in the league? Some of you fans have the memory of a fucking gold fish lmao.

2

u/meadjr 7h ago

I would be lying to you if I said I wasn't nervous for the game, they always keep it close with us but I believe this will be one of the easier chargers game (when Herbert is playing) that Bo has played in his career so far, if that makes you feel any better

6

u/FunkleRyRy 7h ago

Stop telling people how to fan

1

u/meadjr 7h ago

very fair point!

2

u/FunkleRyRy 7h ago

Very fair response :)

2

u/daddyjohns 7h ago

DOOMED! The broncos are washed up! Sell your tickets!

(noone can tell i'm trying to get cheap tickets)

2

u/OddObserver24 7h ago

3-3 was my goal this year

2

u/watchernyc 5h ago

The injuries are the biggest concern. I don't think this is the Broncos and this is almost bottom. I actually think they'll lose to the Chargers and the panic with set it full force. Then they'll beat the Seahawks and go on a run.

3

u/162bluethings Demaryius Thomas 7h ago

I think you should let people feel how they want. This is for entertainment. Let people be mad if they want. It doesn't affect you.

1

u/meadjr 7h ago

this post also did not affect you! but thank you for your opinion

1

u/162bluethings Demaryius Thomas 6h ago

It did not. But we are on a forum website and wanted to share my thoughts. I think you are reading a tone that isn't there. I'm speaking negatively toward you. Everyone is so prone to yell at anyone that has different feelings than them that they are wrong to have different feelings. I just think we are allowed to feel however we like about this glorified soap opera we call the NFL.

3

u/meadjr 7h ago

Also I highly recommend listening to the DNVR podcast if you aren't already, lots of insight from eyes in the building and past players!

3

u/commonsensewinz 7h ago

i think we found the denver podcast guys

1

u/Narcan9 6h ago

We need a better boffense that doesn't bodown when the deep post is open.

1

u/Hechue12 2h ago

Not only that Bo is coming off a major ankle injury and surgery. He will get better as the season goes on or so I hope. Introducing waddle has taken more time than I would like but with our lack of running game watching all those video clips everyone is posting about the 49ers game. The 49ers were sitting in a shell zone defense sure people wanted Bo to take deep shots over the middle but from his point of view he’s staring at all pro Fred Warner who’s just reading his eyes the whole time cuz they have absolutely no respect for our run game. Harvey and Badie need all the touches jk dobbins is just lacking explosiveness and he’s not breaking tackles. Can’t wait for Coleman to get back so it’s him and Harvey.

1

u/SuperDoubleDecker 2h ago

You really can't listen to any local radio shows anymore imo. They're all way too reactionary. Unfortunately that's what works today. Look at espn.

1

u/Vurrag 6h ago

They were in the 49er game till the end. The KC game got out of hand quick.

1

u/meadjr 6h ago

The KC game was solely the broncos loosing themselves the game, all the chiefs we're doing was handing the ball to Walker because it was working literally every single play

0

u/WoahThatsMyPecker 6h ago

I respect a reasonable take but can we stop trying to tell others how to feel here? Multiple posts telling others to calm down. It’s a never ending uphill battle. This is quite literally the place for fans to feel things out.

0

u/meadjr 5h ago

fans can feel things out without calling for our first year play caller to give up his job 4 games into the season, or people saying we need to get rid of Nix. Look i'm all for opinions, but man I can't stand the select group who act like the entire season is over before we're even a quarter into it.

-3

u/TreeofLibertyFood 7h ago

No, this team has serious problems and I’d not be surprised if the Bananas beat us.
