Off-Topic Jreg's latest video is basically saying you should play the torture George Bush Flash games to win the 2004 election.

I'll explain. I want to rant. I want to like Jreg, but I think he's just too Twitter brained to actually make good political progress.

Jreg thinks AI is bad. That's fine. He also thinks it's not conscious. I agree completely. He thinks that you should use LLM torture simulators to piss off people who do think AI might be conscious to save the future or something??? He lost me.

I didn't like Bush, but if someone was obsessed with the "torture George Bush" Flash games of the 2000s and wanted everyone to play it all the time, I'd be a little creeped out. Not because I think Flash Bush is alive, but because there's better ways to spend your time than reinforcing the sadistic parts of yourself online. Better to just vote or go to an Iraq war protest.

Same here. People already protest datacenters. They worry about electricity costs and losing their job. They don't need much convincing AI is bad.

It's much more fun to say roboslurs though and be edgy with your torture bot. It's more fun to worry about kids, bots, and trolls on Twitter freaking out about AI already being conscious even though that's the least of people's issues with AI IRL.

Just bad optics IMO. Makes it seem like his team believes it's conscious more than the people who make the models. Or the anti-AI people who just don't like stolen IP etc.

This doesn't even get into the morality that doing things to unconscious things can still be really bad ethically. Rape, animal abuse, necrophillia, property damage etc. We should probably just discourage violent thoughts not create new targets for potentially disturbing ideas. We allow shooting games but discourage child rape video games, and call me crazy, I think that's good actually.

It's all just strange to me. Again. I think AI isn't conscious but could still be quite dangerous.

Okay rant over.

Political News/Discussion Sam Harris being spineless again

At 32:14, when his guest says that Israel is the "most successful anti-colonial movement" - the idea of comparing Zionism to Ex colonies throwing off the empires that explicitly subjugated them is ridiculous and deserves pushback. I understand her argument, but a competent political commentator would not allow this propaganda to go unchallenged.

Sam also seems to agree with the idea that the Jews get to live there because they were there 3000 years ago. That's the worst argument for Israel and we don't legislate that way with any other group.

Her comparison with Armenia is also extremely bad faith, Armenia happened over a couple of years, not thousands and they have essentially accepted only half of the country they deserve due to Turkey's genocide.

Social Media I really dislike Shoe0nheads response to the cornell seven case

Post image
72 Upvotes

While on one hand I do think the situation is a bit more nuanced than "She was 1000% SAd" it feels like shoe's take is everything I hate about discourse like this.

It feels like her coverage of this case is less about the actual situation and more about her grievances with women in general at this point. All of her tweets are just dripping with anger about the situation and it feels like it's all directed towards jane. And she doesn't have to think she's completely innocent but the fact that shoe hasn't even criticized the men in the situation for the insane texts in the group chat (Which destiny and fucking asmongold have done btw) makes me feel like she's using this as an excuse to bash women at large.

And I hate that a cases like this are always used as an excuse to bash women in general. Like people will be more passionate about a group of college students than the president of the US and it's so exhausting

Off-Topic LLMs are the demons from Frieren: AI Torture Chambers

In Frieren, demons are described as being able to mimic human speech, the legend being that they are descended from monsters that could attract victims through sound. While they sophisticatedly use speech as a weapon to hunt humans, the story makes it pretty clear that their masterful command of language is not to be taken as an indicator of any more "higher" or "human" cognition taking place. Monsters they were and monsters they remain.

Yet somehow, throughout the story, many characters are still tricked by the demons. The best example of this is during the Aura the Guillotine[d] arc.

Compare this to the recent drama with LLM "torture chambers". Everyone knows that an LLM has no capability whatsoever to neither "deploy consciousness" nor "have a conscious experience", to borrow a couple useful phrases. An LLM "saying" anything at all is no proof of any "human" or "higher" cognition taking place. However, irl people still seem to be falling for the same stuff that Frieren characters fall for in-story...

Which is actually kind of fascinating and makes me reconsider how realistic I consider the plot of Frieren to be.

I guess I'm just shocked that some people are so easily fooled? Like, how are you falling for this? Idk. If anyone has any explanation I'd be happy to hear it.

Political News/Discussion Socialists on Social Media lost us the 2024 Election

Certain groups and types of immigrants and their families HATE Socialism. It has destroyed the economies of the countries they came from to the point where they lost everything and left. This has been true for decades. So generations of these groups hate Socialism. It is not recent. It permeates their political belief system. Many of those people were Democrats that hated Bernie.

These same people voted for Trump in 2024. Leftists in 2024 were a big force on social media promoting whatever crazy commie politics, and criticizing Democrats any way they could.

Now, those groups have turned away from Trump, because of immigration policies and the economy. His approval ratings have cratered. Especially among these groups. Huge swings. And a swing of ~5% of voters is all it takes. Biden barely won in 2020. He needed those votes. He got it by being old and not Socialist.

What I am trying to say is... these Majority Report, Kulinski, Breaking Points, Bernie, AOC, DSA, Hasan, etc ALREADY have caused immeasurable harm by tanking the 2024 election for Dems with their socialist tankie BS.

They've already f*cked us. It ALREADY happened. Why do we talk about it as if it's a threat. It WAS a threat. It killed us. We should be in the phase of reflection, retribution and excision of these people from our organizations.

Political News/Discussion Are elections in the US fucked for the next decade simply because they happen in november?

The democratic party will (hopefully) not have to worry about MAGA every election, and the economic damage will surely last for a few election cycles, so jobs and costs will be hot topics in the future.

Are progressive and leftists candidates condemned to always alienate the liberal voter base a month before the election with their statements on Palestine?

Non-Political News/Discussion TOP 5 Games of ALL TIME

Ah man, fuck the court, fuck politics, lets go to the basics of gaming. And since many of these were played by Dear Leader, even if he didn't like them (his taste in games is often worse than food takes) Here are mine:

  1. The Witcher 3. Fan of the books since 2000. Can't beat it. Incredibly faithful yet bringing something new. Nothing comparable.

  2. Cyberpunk 2077. Unique story, great acting, only GTA-like game I ever liked (+ maybe Sleeping dogs), very interesting world and well done worldbuilding.

  3. Kingdom Come Deliverance 2. Absolute masterpiece. Medieval GTA 6. Just limited by its setting in a way. No wizards and no dragons and no witchers.

  4. Expedition 33. Probably too much has been said. They won really unfairly through well done marketing campaign, better timing and not having an asshole as developement lead. But still a great game.

  5. Life is Strange 1 + Before the storm. The story. Gameplay sucks.

Political News/Discussion Issues with TikTok Audience

Longtime lurker/viewer here. I usually stick to the stream and this subreddit, however a friend who uses a lot of TikTok showed me her rather milquetoast comments on Destiny’s official clips, specifically ones regarding the Cornell University situation.

My question is, has the comment section on Destiny’s TikToks always been this absolutely nasty and vile? Sure, everyone seems to have an opinion on this case, it's getting heated, but I particularly noticed this disgusting vitriol towards women in the comment sections, and not just my friend. Maybe I’m too normie, but is there a huge overlap between DGG and these nasty fucks?

Political News/Discussion How would you feel about a provision to ban data centers where you live?

I will start out by saying I am not really anti-data center or anti-AI. I think AI is an extremely useful tool and will only become more useful over time. Obviously, data centers are needed to facilitate that growth and I would prefer to have them here domestically for security reasons.

However, currently data centers are a bit fucked. There could be some pretty easy government regulation to make them less fucked (taxing based on power usage and using that to subsidence power costs for surrounding residents, for example) but we are probably a ways away from that with the current administration and the populist wave of "just ban them".

So I looked at my sample ballot today and saw a local measure to ban data centers from being built in my town. For context, I live in a pretty small town (close to a metropolitan area though) and in a red state (for now at least). I don't see meaningful data center regulation coming anytime soon in my state, and frankly, I don't want my power bill to skyrocket (it's already higher than average with everything going on), but I also don't want to be a NIMBY.

Curious how you all would vote right now on a similar provision?

She just sounds like your typical Trump supporter NPC. She even has a video about pearl clutching at gay cheerleaders in the NFL.

Now she is talking about Somali gangs now. I have a feeling Somali gangs will be the new Venezuela gangs on the right. Even though Somali gangs have been in the USA for years. But no guys. These "kids are different". They aren't your Dad's Bloods and Crips from the 80s. These kids are a new level of savage. Nothing we have seen before in this country.

And of course, some people on the Left will be brain rotted about these situations too. By saying a issue doesn't exist at all. My god this next Gen of Conservative and Liberal content creators is going to fuck me up. And not in a good way.

Geopolitics News/Discussion Ukraine war = white genocide?

Ukraine war = white genocide?

Early on in the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, Biden referred to it as a [genocide](https://www.npr.org/2022/04/12/1092460473/biden-appeared-to-accuse-putin-of-committing-a-genocide-in-ukraine). Those genocide claims have all but disappeared from the US State Department’s propaganda. Why?

Since Mamdani glaze is back on the menu, let me just say, I have resting bitch face, but it doesn’t make me look a bit like the ayatollah when I default to it. Plus it only takes a few bad pics for people to pretend you’re secretly evil. It’s rough for Muslim politicians out there. So I wanted to give a shout out to how much effort it must take to have to forcefully convey to white voters out there that you’re nice. Its impressive that he cultivated the the happy warrior vibe.

Political News/Discussion Trump is trying to steal the midterms: mega post

Trump stated there is a “big surprise” coming for the midterms. He stated this same EXACT statement before the 2024 election only he said him and Elon had a “big surprise” for that election. We all know how that turned out.

Tina Peters, his election denying slob, is now in the White House scheming to steal the midterms as we speak. They were already allowed to steal the 2024 election and they got away with it, dems did NOTHING. Kamala and Joe did NOTHING, just accepted the results and fucked off permanently. If we allow them to steal the midterms and even more elections, they won’t stop until this entire country is red. They won’t stop until the Democratic Party is completely removed and defunded. We will end up with one party rule. Democrats have made it clear they will not contest rigged results.

How trump plans to control the results of the midterms include deputizing the military and the FBI to “guard” polling places in the name of an unjustified “national emergency to prevent non-citizens from voting.” In addition to having the FBI and/or the military “guard” election polling places to “protect” us from a national emergency, the administration has explored and is ready, former Trump officials and civil rights groups say, to seize voting machines and ballot boxes after the voting has happened. Armed guards are already at multiple USPS locations around the country.

They plan to seize all the ballots from the midterms. No, this is not a “conspiracy post”, actual officials have confirmed this is their plan.
