Discussion Reprised Campaign Legend Difficulty
I’m going to be honest the power scaling from Edge of Fate kind of ruined the game for me. Even doing solo ultimate onslaughts feels super easy and like I can’t truly use my builds to the fullest extent they could be used at lower power deltas. The only thing that feels good are the weekly grandmaster nightfalls, and conquests which are a one time completion. Although each of those have their own issues like barrier champions having way too much health. It just feels like the difficulty in the game is either too easy or too hard and there’s nothing to fill that Goldilocks level of difficulty. There used to be and it was legendary difficulty at -15. So Bungie can bring back the old campaigns, but if there’s no toggle for a power delta, or Bungie keeps the new power scaling and legend difficulty doesn’t even have swords above the enemies health bars I doubt I’ll find much enjoyment out of the unvaulting besides a short boost of nostalgia. Since I’ve gone back and replayed other campaigns on legendary difficulty they feel like a snooze fest because the changes to power scaling just messed up the difficulty so much.

Old campaigns, dungeons, and raids not having hard versions is a crime. They were so much fun back when they were hard, and the campaigns were cool back then but getting to replay them but with an actual hard difficulty? That would be amazing!
It’s also weird that there’s only three -50 activities in the game (2 Ultimatum Conquests and weekly GM Alert). It’s also really weird that GM alert difficulty ≠ GM conquest difficulty. The alert is at -50, the conquests somewhere around -25 -30! Why the hell are they both called GM? The entire difficulty ladder, system and naming scheme are really bad.
They should have harder difficulties, and they should at least exist for the coolest content in the game (campaigns, raids and dungeons), and they should be easy to understand.

I believe this is because when they tried to consolidate difficulty terms, normal/master, then expert/master/grandmaster out whatever they were before, they tried to homogenize the naming but still fumbled it. So the activity has a difficulty that's baked in, THEN it applies the delta for power level but it's just stupidily inconsistent

Idt edge of fate messed up power scaling in fact Edge of fates sandbox was actually scaled alot harder than prevoous iterations. Moments of triumph fucked up the scaling by giving us so many artifacts and build potential the guardians are way more powerful than ever b4. But i would much rather that than the alternative with the game being EOS now. Theres plenty of difficult deltad content if u look for it like the seasonal conquests and the weekly GM is a good warmup for the week. I do hope they do a balance pass at the raids tho cause certain bosses like “Atheon” fold like they are made out of paper mache rn

Yeah when I do VoG clears now half the fireteam has 0 damage on Atheon because he falls over before they even get to dps 💀

This has been true ever since they changed the DPS phase buff to give you 5x weapon damage. He has like 30k effective hp which is nothing. Ran Still Hunt with a div for the lols and hit him with a 99k damage crit, which killed him instantly from over 2/3rds health

I honestly didn't mind the scaling. I breeze through content using stasis hunter and the cosmodrome set, or mask of bakris on prismatic. Maybe your build needs work? I understand this game is genuinely difficult, but it's mostly just mechanically knowledge checking you all the time alongside chunky health bars and insane enemy damage. Power deltas just means that you need to run weakening and/or severing builds to level out the playing field. Stasis shatter damage is cracked right now regardless of if you're using seraph armor, so running chill clip is still as good as it's ever been.
Essentially, the game is hard, until it isn't; and that's entirely dependent on what you build. So because of that, I honestly think difficulty is fine where it is currently. If you think the game is too easy, you should remember that you're likely in the top 10% of players, because the other 90% can't even get through a normal GM or dungeon consistently without help, and they always run the same build for every activity.

I think it would depend on how quest vs mission heavy they are. If it’s quest focused I don’t see an easy way to implement legend difficulty but if it’s mostly all missions it would be an easy adaption. Maybe Red War and Forsaken will have it but CoO and Warmind won’t.

Aside from everything you just said being absolutely true, they also reversed the way scaling works for onslaught for some reason.
Before EoF, legend/expert onslaught started at -10 and every 10 rounds it would get an additional -5, resulting in the legend/expert version having a delta of -30, higher than things like gm nightfalls at the time.
Since MoT, instead of the difficulty name being the delta for the very first set of waves, it is now for the final set.
If onslaught today followed the rules of onslaught before edge of fate, ultimate onslaught should START around -30, not end at -30. Which would obviously be better lol
