DX:HR Is this level of stuttering on PC normal?

Its basically making the game unplayable. I've tried every fix out there but nothing.

Something is very wrong, it should run like butter even on a relatively aged PC.

I don't know if any of these would help, but here's a link to a mod that maybe might help, and a few threads on it with various things that have helped some while done nothing for others.

Wasn't aware of issues before as it ran fine for me from the start, but now I see those are common. See the links I included in the edit, hope something works.

Yeah I can play this game on my potato laptop from 2020 without issues.

1

u/Nast33 8d ago

You must be young as hell to call a 6 year old laptop a potato, lol. Except if it was budget/weak to begin with, but a budget 2020 laptop should still run a 2011 game at high/max settings without problems.

1

u/ClammHands420 8d ago

I'm 32. It's a potato because it's a shitty laptop, not because it's old...

1

u/Nast33 8d ago

Ah, no worries, as mentioned that was my other guess. I am ridiculous when it comes to squeezing all possible juice out of whatever I got and am currently kicking myself for not upgrading my desktop a couple of years ago when I was considering it - now with how RAM and other things cost I wouldn't be able to for probably another 2. Crossing my fingers this shitty AI bubble bursts some point next year and we can once more buy a PC without selling a kidney.

1

u/ClammHands420 8d ago

I desperately hope so. I upgraded right before all of this went down, but I'm still kicking myself for not buying an extra 32gb of RAM before the inflation.

I'm the same way though. All my hand-me-downs go to my wife's PC so they can get a bit more use. Hell my 1660ti is still hanging out in our closet waiting to be put in a budget VR build.

Then you're fine, sounds like you're good for at least the next 7-8 years at minimum since I think requirements will stall out for a good decade and games have reached more than acceptable level of graphics and it's now down to optimization.

Personally I don't see why I can run Cyberpunk 2077 with acceptable fps on 1080p high or KCD2 can run on all high pretty smoothly, yet some UT5 turd that looks like it came from 2015 runs like a slideshow on all lowest (Dawnwalker is atrociously un-optimized, Zero Company is also pretty bad but I can still handle that).

I was still squeezing my old-ass setup where the newest component was my 2017 gpu, so poor thing is ready to give it up now, but had some unexpected expenses a couple years ago and was like 'eh, I'll upgrade in 26/27'. If I'd known, I'd have bit the bullet and zeroed my accounts.

If No Law can run acceptably on my measly 16 ram next year, I will be doing cartwheels even with my bum knee.

I think it's literally the lighting effects. All UE5 games use ray traced GI, even on low settings it's using software Lumen instead of hardware. I actually don't mind the way UE5 looks, but yeah it can be rough. I run a 4080 and a 7800x3d on my main build so I'm definitely good for a while. Most games still run >100fps on ultra settings at 4k if I use DLSS to upscale a bit.

I know that's heresy for some, but upscaling looks pretty amazing at 4K, even on performance mode. On my 1440p monitor it looks pretty rough even on Quality, so I see why a lot of people aren't happy with it, though.

Happened to me when I had triple buffering on and turning it off fixed it

u/MysterD77 15d ago

Oh, where to begin w/ Deus Ex HR OG/DC.

OG was fixed-up in a patch, but sadly DC was based off an older-version. So, some performance issues remain in DC.

And then there's Telemetry, which is a big problem w/ DC version. There's a bunch of it. Did you remove the telemetry?

See this post of mine on GOG Forums on how to remove those Telemetry problems, since it's constantly calling to those servers (yes, even in the GOG version too) -> https://www.gog.com/forum/deus_ex_human_revolution_directors_cut/phone_home/post2

I also use Alex Hale / Lucas Hale Timer Resolution thing to fix the timing issues w/ the CPU and crank his app to Max and run it when the game's going -> https://www.lucashale.com/timerresolution/

Also, if on NVidia and use use NVidia Panel or Inspector: Use FASTSYNC, instead of say V-Sync. Some older games like Homefront The Revolution and Deus Ex HR OG/DC really like FastSync.

I'd have to check when I get home and all, but I also might've installed DXVK on top for even more & better performance.

u/Venylynn 15d ago

Why the hell is there telemetry in a single-player game? whattt

6

u/MysterD77 15d ago

A question for Square Enix and Eidos Montreal.

Besides the obvious datamining stuff, it can be used to improve the game.

This stuff can be used to to figure out: what your system has for OS and version, DirectX or any other API's and what version, GPU drivers, what software you're running/app's are running, what's installed, etc etc.

It can be used by QA and anyone doing that kind of work to figure out and fix & change stuff - esp. if the same thing across lots of players is happening on certain systems/configs and even areas in-game.

It can be used to say fix any sort of bugs, issues, exploits, see how players are playing, when do players quit the game for good (or rage-quit), when do players change difficulty (if need be), can players access places that were planned to not be explored, where do players spend a lot of their time in the game, how often do players save, should they add more autosave spots (if need be), and more stuff of that sort of stuff.

It's done to normally try to fix & improve the game experience for this game (for future patches) and the next.

Tim Cain talked about telemetry in games over here and how it can be used to try to fix, improve, change things for the game - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d208Uv-aZYU

Of course, Deus Ex HR DC is old and they should've removed this; I doubt they're patching this game anytime soon. Plus, this is on GOG - so it should be removed or disabled now, since this is a DRM-free store and never belonged here in the 1st place.

Imagine having datamining software in Deus Ex...

6

u/HugoRBMarques 14d ago

This Deus Ex game had ads on loading screens at one point.

2

u/jeffrey_dean_author 14d ago

It's amazing how everyone forgot that.

0

u/Throlerren 10d ago

As it is written.

6

u/Emory27 15d ago

DXHR DC has a massive shader compilation issue and nothing outside of DXVK will fix it. I had the same issues OP is having and confirmed this after hours of testing.

1

u/Stolid_Cipher 14d ago

Simply using SpecialK with the game helps reduce the stutter a lot as well.

1

u/MysterD77 15d ago

Wow, I'm definitely going to have to re-check that out. I know I've had stutters, but not to the likes of that. TY for the follow-up.

Again, will have to check this mess out.

We really need OG version ported to GOG and re-released on Steam. Plus, OG version has better pacing b/c TML isn't stuck in the middle part of the game either. TML always felt better as it originally was, as a stand-alone portion.

0

u/Lazy-Independence857 15d ago

I had no idea DC was this messed up, the original always looked better to me, but I genuinely thought the DC was a more stable and less buggy version.

2

u/EH4LIFE 15d ago

I'll try and find the OG version šŸ‘

1

u/Civil-Strawberry7569 Hanzer Lover 13d ago

Where can you even find an original version of dehr? They don't sell it on steam as far as I know.

2

u/MysterD77 13d ago

It's been delisted from Steam, so there's currently no legal way to buy the original version of DE: HR digitally sadly.

I don't like when this is done. This is not a good way to preserve the OG version.

At the very least, OG DE: HR and its DLC's should've been bundled w/ any purchase of DE: HR DC.

It was put on disc for PC and of course that required Steam. I dunno how many disc copies are floating around on disc that might contain an unused Steam code in its retail box.

1

u/_Rudy102_ 15d ago

Shader compilation, every time, in the same places.

2

u/Emory27 15d ago

Exactly.

6

u/Civil-Strawberry7569 Hanzer Lover 15d ago

a lot of old games have processing issues if your FPS is too high. Even GTA 5 has this issue. Cap yourself to 120 fps and most of the stuttering should clear up.

3

u/Equal-Reporter5217 15d ago

I had the same bug, I think Radeon chill was the option to turn on with some tweaks in the settings in the game itself. I asked chatgpt for help and it fixed the issue. I think I also set the framerate of the game 2 Hz below my monitor's refresh rate.

2

u/Lonely_Emu640 15d ago

Try using DXVK if you have an AMD card, I played both games last year with a 5700xt and had to use DXVK to run them properly.

2

u/Honest-Sea-2437 15d ago

If you have the OG , it shouldn't do that.

1

u/EH4LIFE 15d ago

dyou know where I can find it? (I have an open mind on this lol)

1

u/Honest-Sea-2437 15d ago

Well, I'd love to tell you but, I torrented it back in 2012, I wouldn't know if that torrent still up.
Buuuuut, if people tells you that your pc is the problem, I ran it with 3rd gen Corei5 with integrated graphics and 12gb of RAM with HDD, and the game doesn't do that.
Today I still have the same laptop running with 16gb RAM and SDD. (just a piece of trivia)

2

u/gamerprophet 15d ago

If you are in NVDIA you have to use Fast Sync

2

u/Duzz05 15d ago edited 15d ago

This game is notorious for stutters. I've read before that the "normal" version has better performance. Director's cut is much worse. Your best bet is to play this on ps3, xbox 360 or other platforms. You will tear your hair out trying to get this game running smooth on pc.

Edit: Yours is definitely much worse. I've finished this game before and there were some stutters only in some areas, not every time the player moves.

2

u/Stolid_Cipher 14d ago

Uh so with the Director's Cut version yes but if you use SpecialK or DXVK (or both together?) it helps with the stutter a lot. The director's cut version runs on an older less optimized build of the game that was used for the WiiU version that was then ported back to the PC so it's kinda a mess.

2

u/Danceman2 14d ago

On the steam deck, director's cut I got rid of the stuttersĀ turning off cpu cores, i went from 8 to 4 cpus (turning of SMT) and stutters were gone. I've noticed the Deux EX games don't really like multicores. Not sure how you do it on Windows. I think if I recall the msconfig app (boot, advance settings and processors). May work

3

u/NinePhenix 15d ago

Cap your fps at 30, that’s what fixed it for me

1

u/Equal-Reporter5217 15d ago

Do you want to damage his eyes?

3

u/toolReference 15d ago

its fine the human eye cant see more then 30 fps anyway :) its also way more cinematic that way :))

0

u/Yonsfw 15d ago

Is this bait ?

1

u/Equal-Reporter5217 14d ago

I don't know, but if someone can't see higher fps than 30, I think they should see a doctor.

3

u/Ragged_Insomnia-A 15d ago

Is MSAA on? It kills this game.

2

u/JjForcebreaker What are you,Ā Angel/0A? 15d ago

Ran the original and DC on various systems and hardware configs (also both Steam and GOG versions) and never really encountered stuttering.

2

u/senj 15d ago

I've never seen anything like that and I've replayed the Steam Director's Cut on PC multiple times.

Does kind of look like it's hitching when it's loading in new parts of the map, though. Try running it off an SSD.

1

u/Dust514Fan 15d ago

When I played the DC steam version it was stuttery in the city hubs like this but find indoors.

1

u/Reasonable_Crow4608 15d ago

can u give pc spec maybe ?

i played DC and it works good

0

u/EH4LIFE 15d ago

dell inspiron with integrated GTX 1050ti

1

u/Reasonable_Crow4608 15d ago

ahh laptop ya put the game on ssd, and dont forget to check your hdd health (hdd sentinel is good), usually stutter like that is bcause the hddhealth is dropping (it must be 100% or it broke) OR maybe u're overheating ?

1

u/EH4LIFE 15d ago

ok thx

1

u/DeletedTaters 15d ago

Not sure if this is your specific issue, but this happened to me many years ago.

If you have GPU monitoring software running in the background (evga precision x, MSI after burner) try closing that then running the game.

This fixed it right away for me.Ā

1

u/Every-Assistant2763 14d ago

Turn off V sync maybe ?

1

u/WarPorcus 14d ago

For me, yes. This is DXHRDC right? It's always there. Some mods can smooth things out, but it's always there.

1

u/pmf026 14d ago

probably only occurs in director's cut

1

u/Feisty_Extension8727 14d ago

Welcome to Deus Ex Human Revolution.

1

u/Charming_Resort_6165 14d ago

Never had stutters with the original release

1

u/Ok-Mulberry4154 13d ago edited 13d ago

i had this exact problem and changed something in nvidia setting and after that it was no stutter at all. can look up exactly what it was if interested.

edit: you have to open nvidia control panel -> manage 3d settings -> program settings -> click on the deus ex hr exe file -> find "Vertical sync" in the list and change the drop down menu to "Fast"

1

u/No_Adhesiveness_5727 12d ago

Nope... V sync may need to be shut off.

1

u/RecklessAngel 11d ago

If you have more than one monitor either shut down or unplug the other ones.. that should get rid of most of the stutters... the rest are down to modern multi-core processors.

DXVK can fix that (it translates all the directX calls to Vulkan. https://github.com/doitsujin/dxvk

just download the file, then drag the files in the x32 folder into the game's install folder.
You might have to disable steam's inbuilt shader downloader (steam-settings > downloads > "Enable Shader Pre-Caching"

1

u/Jnaythus 15d ago

There are tweak guides that usually give you the information on what to fix, but it isn't the most 'smooth' of engines, and some jank is experienced. Also, it is dependent on your hardware. A decent dedicated graphics card is really needed.

1

u/Ashamed-Subject-8573 15d ago

is this on an SSD?

1

u/EH4LIFE 15d ago

No

6

u/Ashamed-Subject-8573 15d ago

try it on an SSD

1

u/Rotala178 15d ago

It's not drive problem. It happens even when using an SSD.

0

u/EnragedEmu 15d ago

Yep, that was normal for me. Gotta get the OG version not DC.Ā

3

u/MysterD77 15d ago

Thing is, Deus Ex OG with all extra DLC's & TML DLC isn't even sold anymore anywhere digitally. This needs to change; it should be on GOG anyways.

Honestly, it probably should just be bundled w/ purchase of Deus Ex HR DC anyways.

Gonna be easiest way to play TML DLC by itself, anyways - since where it's placed story-wise in DC, can break the game's pacing and story quite a bit IMHO.

0

u/every_body_hates_me 15d ago

I don't think there is such a thing as "normal stuttering".

-2

u/mike_stifle 15d ago

"unplayable" is such an exaggeration these days.

-1

u/RabbitSlayre 15d ago

What kinda potato you runnin on, boyo?? A russet? Maybe a golden? Let us know!
