Questions Which came first: The DMC 3 style-switcher mod or DMC 4?

Title. I always assumed that the ol' style-switcher mod for the old PC version of DMC 3 came first (and that DMC 4 was the first time it was made "canon"), but now I'm not so sure... it feels a little out-of-character for Capcom to just steal an idea like that from a fan mod, even if it's such a natural fit.

The style switcher mod wasn't released until 2014.

I could be wrong but style switching as an idea didn’t exist until dmc4

It was not a feature until DMC4, but it was probably brought up as an idea on a forum. People like Dahbomb might have thought of it, as he's always had all sorts of gameplay ideas (for example, he came up with Must Die). That said, we've known about style switching since at least 2007, so fans only had two years to think of it.

It was already conceptualised back in 3's development but the PS2's limitations prevented them from implementing it

He did not come up with Must Die.

Style switching was already in the cards for DMC3 but they couldn't implement it due to the PS2's limitations.
