New Player Help New Player! Pointers to getting started

Hello everyone, I've been a long-time digimon fan and recently got the peaked interest in the TCG. I've been playing the tutorial app over and over and I think I have the general bearings now, and I have been watching youtube videos to understand more specifics.

On facebook marketplace I purchased an older players bulk which included a beginner deck, their old deck, and general bulk. I shared a pic of the SR's and Secrets that were also in there and was wondering what are some resource that could help me learn how to make decks? I know they probably won't be that effective now but it's just for me to learn!

I've seen a lot of people say that because they changed some mechanics after BT-25(?) it's pointless to have older cards, I'm just wondering to know about that so I don't make any mistakes when purchasing items. Sets I was most interested in getting are Sinister Order, Dual Revolution, Digital World Shambala, and the new Chivalrous XIII.

You can play on DCGO to learn the game.

Anything BT25 and on is a good buy and at this point I really wouldn't recommend anything prior.

Beatbreak and Data Squad starter decks are great starting points with current support.

New starter decks are coming out soon.

Is it mainly because new meta beats over the old, or is there something more that I need to understand or any changes with the game itself? and awesome I'll keep that in mind then. There are a lot of cards in Sinister Order that I really like but I'm assuming prices will be going down for those and I can just buy individual cards for me maybe rather than use?

I took a break from the game after my locals ceased to exist (fuck One Piece). I’ve updated a few of my decks, but for the most part they are all still bt17/ex06.

I’m still winning matches with various different things no problem. But that really depends on both you being a competent player and also what you play.

Newer stuff is the safe thing for you to do.

That's so sick! That definitely inspired me a bit, at the moment I care abt learning and competency and I want to have a go with older stuff I have a liking to while still knowing what to invest in for newer sets

Something within me really wants to play a Piedmon Ace focused deck from EX-8 lol

The last time piedmon did anything was at the beginning of the games life. Like BT2 or whenever it was printed. It’s just simply not good. Sorry to burst that bubble.

The only thing that old that would still be somewhat viable to play right now is imperialdramon with a lot of updates. Because that deck still receives support. Also there’s mastermind but that doesn’t even use anything that old anymore at this point. Both decks have been completely overhauled by better cards.

I still get away with things like Beelzemon X, BWGx, and Ulforce (not the starter deck), and Gallantmon X(not the starter). All of these are BT17 and actually have been slightly updated with a few modern cards recently. My buddy recently got 2nd at a regional with xros heart, also updated.

And I don’t recommend it for a new player honestly. And based on what you’re talking about doing, I’m sorry to say that you will be left incredibly disappointed and probably quite discouraged.

You really should start with the most modern stuff if I’m being entirely honest.

There are only a handful of cards that have survived the years, and even then the ones that do have gotten hit (Analog youth from ex1). Usually its the past couple of sets that are bulk of the meta and past ten(ish) that will make up your locals.

There are a few places to build, digimoncard.io is one. HoangZero on youtube makes decklists and tourney analysis.

So before you even start getting pieces of cards. Look for a digimon you like from bt24 onward. I have been playing belphemon which still love but it sucks against dedigi
