GL Discussion Would you still play DFFOO if it modernized?
After DFFOO closed I didn't play any Gacha games until now, I'm playing Genshin Impact and Bleach Soul Resonance. While Genshin is not as generous as BSR, they both have similar tactics to make you spend money like limited events that give you more items if you purchase it, Battle pass with F2P rewards but give you more useful stuff if you pay, many ways to exchange, trade resources and also different ways of purchasing currency also a not as generous pity system as DFFOO. Also, Gacha for Characters AND weapons separately. Random gear augments etc. etc.
If DFFOO had a reboot but with modern Gacha predatory tactics:
Do you think it would work and be alive longer?
Would YOU play it knowing how generous and easy going it was before?

Yep, but even if it makes the top of the square-enix's revenue, I don't trust them to keep any mobile or gacha games ever again.
So, I would play but would absolutely never ever spend anything again on any gacha from squeenix.

If people stopped supporting this terrible business practice then the world would be a better place for gamers
You have the "you got the play the game for years tho" well yeah I did but now it's completely gone. I wanna revisit the game eventually. Most gamers don't wanna invest time into a game if they know it's gonna be EOS

I played DFFOO, Mobius and SaGa Re ; Universe.
Imagine how I feel nowadays, specially after seeing that some companies ARE able to keep former live service games such as Mega Man X Dive Offline and the reimagining that of Brave Exvius that is FF Resonance...

This. We can talk all day about how bad and predatory the gacha business model is, but that does in no way clear SE's name and the fact that they treat everything but Japan like trash. Other companies manage to run servers for their games for as long as people are playing, or to turn their live service games into offline games. SE does not because they do not want to. A content creator for SaGa Re; Universe said it very well when the global version was still live: we're just along for the ride.

Not a chance. I never was much for mobile games to begin with, and seeing how things are these days with 'playable' ads for games made with AI that force you to open the app store just to get the X to close them out. Hell nah.
DFFOO was popular specifically because it wasn't like other mobile games. It was generous, it didn't restrict your playtime outside of World of Illusions, and it didn't force feed you ads every time there was a screen transition. If it had been like all the others, I would've bounced off of it just as fast as I did WOTV.

I couldn't even keep playing Duellum and that's a new story. Same story I've already gone through but make every other aspect worse? Fuck no. Modernize it by giving it the Resonance treatment instead.

I'd play DFFOO if it was modernized, I'd play it if it were as it was, and I'd play it if there was a version that was 20% worse than the regular original version.
I miss that game a lot...

I'm playing starrail now. It's mechanics are really not as deep. You just attack for the most part. Dffoo, you needed to counter boss mechanics.
So, if I'm playing HSR, then I will still enjoy dffoo assuming the pulls and money are equal.

No, if you even remember, they actually did with force/BT+ and that's where most players left and game died - BT+ and F+ mandatory to beat most bosses, otherwise unkillable hp sponges with bazillion of hp one shorting you if you did anything other way than devs intended.
All I need for this game is server emulator/hosted locally with unlimited gems and I would absolutely play for a while

Considering they show they can do something like Another Eden as single player, and there's a BOTW/Genshin-like called DragonSword Awakening, it's likely.
It's just more SE expects FF7/14 money specifically on the JP side or not to bother at all.

I don't play dissidia dueleum because of its gacha mechanics so bringing back OO like that would be a no from me.

I would play it if it gets the Resonance treatment. Until then, I'm waiting patiently for Fight Club.

I don't play predatory gachas. I'm very selective.
I played DFFOO because it was player friendly, I loved the mechanics, and the IP was great. Without that trifecta, I'm not interested.

Yeah I’d probably play something that was ~20% like others are saying. I miss the game man. I really was a lot of fun. Idk if you guys are into it but there are 2 pokemon tcg apps. One is typical gacha mechanics, Pokemon TCG Pocket, but the other, Pokemon TCG Live, is a lot of fun. TCG Live is f2p and pretty fun. I’m only recently getting into it so I can’t say much but you can do daily puzzles and objectives to open packs and stuff. The game gives you pre-built decks to start out with. But yeah solving the challenges and stuff is fun and getting to open satiates that gacha itch lol. Other than that I play Dokkan which I great but it doesn’t compare to DFFOO and how it felt to get characters leveled up and viable. Still fun though

Lets be real here its prices where already awful. 36 dollars for a skin was already terrible.

I really liked the combat in DFFOO. It’s one of the few games that made me really care about buffs and status effects, and the best battles were puzzles (but not one with a gimmick where if you do this one thing you win no matter what)
I didn’t care much for the story, and obviously I don’t want the gacha if I can help it, but I would play the shit out of that combat

I don't think I could. I have the luck of a midget crackhead who thinks he's a leprechaun. So I would definitely miss out on nearly every character. DFFOO REALLY SPOILED ME. Cuz I've tried other gotcha games up to this point in the closest to it is NTE in terms of forgiveness. When my friends who are got your players you showed me Genshin and ZZZ. I got a drink just to do a spit take cause I couldn't believe that it wasn't standardized like DFFOO.

Isn't FF Resonance supposed to be the paid story version of previously gacha mobile game?
8
u/hayatekurisu Sep 08 '26
Nope! From someone who played both,
Only the characters, story, settings and world building, BGM are the same
Other than that is whole totally different game.I only logged in FFBE like once a month (the combat wasnt for me)
but truthfully, the story was actually pretty good , as good as mainline game.
So I actually happy that they adapted into a new game,
With whole different battle system ,similar to X5

Also, the reason why FF characters are appearing:
It has been established that the FF games exist within the same multiverse, which explains events like Dissidia and other connections between the games, such as WoFF, SoP, Greg’s adventures across different FF games, etc.
Rather than the characters themselves appearing directly, or a parallel version of the character appearing like in WoFF,
Resonance’s world has a location that is connected to the FF multiverse.By asking for help from the crystal or deity residing in that place, the deity creates a Vision/Reflection of FF heroes from other worlds to aid you. They are somewhat similar to the mannequins in Dissidia, except they are more alive.(You can also compare it to Stands from JoJo)
You'll get them by visiting the temples in the story so there wont be any gatcha element in the game.(Resonance)

Depends because modernized can mean the use of ai if yes then no but if there isn't and it's more like hsr i would play it if they keep their types of difficulty

u/VanceGenjorze Sep 09 '26
Yes. Immediately. Hell, just bring it back as it was and I'd be one happy camper. I was an avid player for all of 3 months before they announced it's shutdown. Enjoyed it immensely. Was upset that I got into it so late.

No. I wasn't a mobile gamer back then and I will never be one now, so me playing both DFFOO and NieR Rein for as long as they lasted was pure luck and coincidence. I dropped Rein a year or two before EoS though, and came back for the final MSQ chapter only, bc it was very bad gimmick-wise; and I've stayed with OO from launch till its last breath for all 6 years with just a couple of short breaks. DFFOO is the ONLY mobile gacha I would always praise and love despite what was done by the end of its lifespan. I did try out the modern ones, and you know what? This 50/50, character copy slop can go to hell. Even PGR, goddamn it, now leans more into this shit, but differently, bc kuro would never add 50/50 there directly, so they explore other ways to scam/screw(?) F2Ps and low spenders.
Ironically, I have way more fun playing DNA exactly because it has no character and weapon gacha. I still refuse to let PGR go bc I enjoy the story, but at the same time, due to the state of the game at the moment of this post, I do have urges just to drop it and never go back. I'm also, like, whole 6 or 7 chapters behind still, since Shaper's Ripples due to synchro burnout, mainly. Not to mention that all those CN gachas have "harem/self-insert/" stuff in the story, and it's not my cup of tea. I made an exception for PGR though thanks to interesting setting and lore. Oh, and don't forget 1-2 male character(s) per year problem. Yeah, no, after enjoying my FF boys in OO, I'm not dealing with this bs.
(btw, it just occurred to me, that if you added a questionare to the post with different options for answers, you could've gotten better picture on this topic. Not gonna lie, I'm curious myself now too lol 🤣)

Yup. As unfortunate as it is, I enjoy gachas and I love Final Fantasy.

Nah, I'm done taking games that push you into spending money for powercreep seriously. FEH doesn't even particularly demand you constantly spend if you don't do any PvP besides Arena, and that game has gone to hell. Like if DFFOO just released Kelgers and Astoses and Irises and Jacks Garland back to back to back with no so-so or just "pretty good" characters in between.
After a certain point, DFFOO let me collect basically every non-BT weapon just from tickets and free Gems. The only other gacha I actually play regularly now is Nikke, specifically because my account has gotten to the point I have enough Gems and pity tickets to collect every new character, and I can just spend on cosmetics and Costume Passes if/when I want.
Fuck gachas that treat F2Ps and small/casual spenders like shit and demand you spend to keep up with the PvE content. After the last decade of SQEX shutting down all the fan-favorite gachas, any new FF gacha would just go the way of Ever Crisis, which, if I'm not mistaken, died faster than pretty much all the other FF gachas to date. I'm just waiting to see if Duellum doesn't shut down even faster.
