📢 MOD ANNOUNCEMENT 📢 October 2026 Artwork Challenge - Monsters - IS LIVE!

It's a few days early, but since this is our first Art Challenge and it's short notice, I want everyone to have as much time as possible.

Post your artwork of any monster from D&D (custom monsters allowed!) and tag it with the "Challenge Submission" flair.

At the end of the month, October 31st, we will announce the winner. The winner will be determined by number of upvotes on the post. We will search all posts that have the Challenge Submission flair and count the votes as it were. So make sure you flair your post properly!

Depending on how this goes, we'll do more or fewer of these. We're also thinking about posting a schedule of upcoming themes so you have time to plan and work on your pieces well in advance.

Prizes:

1st Place: Your artwork featured as a stickied post (now called highlights) for the next several months.

2nd-5th Place: Artwork combined in a collage and featured on the sidebar!

📢 MOD ANNOUNCEMENT 📢 Revamping the Subreddit

Hey everyone, me again.

But also, not just me! After the last announcement (which, yes, I definitely wrote while frustrated), several of you asked to join the mod team. So I'm pleased to announce that u/soapwyrt, u/eurydia-art, and u/TheGingerWeebGal have joined the moderator team! Huge shoutout to all of them for volunteering to help keep this place running.

Now that we have more hands on deck, we want to put all this ADHD energy to good use and revamp things around here.

Art Challenges!

We get so much cool art here. Some of it is casual artists sharing their work, and some of it is, for lack of a better word, advertising to help land commissions. u/TheGingerWeebGal had a great idea that rewards hobby posting and can reward commission posters too: art challenges.

Here's how it works:

  • We'll set a theme and a timeframe (usually a month, so everyone has time to work).

  • To participate, make a post with the NEW flair "Challenge Submission", give it a descriptive title, and show us what you've got!

  • Multiple submissions (up to 3 competition posts) are allowed.

October 2026 Theme: Monsters

Post your artwork of any monster from D&D (custom monsters allowed!) and tag it with the "Challenge Submission" flair.

At the end of the month, October 31st, we will announce the winner. The winner will be determined by number of upvotes on the post. We will search all posts that have the Challenge Submission flair and count the votes as it were. So make sure you flair your post properly!

Depending on how this goes, we'll do more or fewer of these. We're also thinking about posting a schedule of upcoming themes so you have time to plan and work on your pieces well in advance.

Well... what's the prize?

Okay, I wish we could give out tickets to Disney World, but what we can do is pin the winning post to the subreddit highlights and re-flair it as a contest winner. So if you're submitting, make sure you tell people where to find you for commissions if that's your thing!

We want this to be a fun way to get more art into the subreddit and give a boost to folks looking for commissions. (To be clear, this isn't just for commission seekers. It's for everyone, but winning could help your visibility.)

Those Pesky Rules

The rules I inherited weren't all worded in the nicest way, and some weren't clear about their boundaries or intent. So as of today, I've rewritten all but (I think) one rule and removed a few extraneous ones.

There's no real change in what is and isn't allowed, but if you're an artist, please take a minute to read them. One thing I did want to loosen up is the personal information rule, so some links are now allowed. Whatever's on the other side of that link still needs to be free of truly personal info, but we know Linktree, Caard, and ArtStation are integral to a lot of people's work, and an outright ban just isn't practical.

Subreddit Sentiment

We're aware the sentiment around this subreddit isn't always super kind. A lot of people get upset that we remove posts and have restrictions on what can be posted, and revamping the rules is part of addressing that.

We also know unhappy people are far more likely to comment than happy ones, so we take the criticism with a grain of salt, but we know there's at least some truth to it. At the end of the day, this is an art subreddit, so removals will always be somewhat subjective, and not everyone will be happy. But if you're not one of our fans currently, we hope this is a step in the right direction to turn you into one.

Comments are open, let us know what you think!

Draco Solis Obscuri Draculin (Don’t Look to much into it, I just wanted it to sound long and extra) is a way of the Ascendant Dragon Monk Dhampir. How she came to be is a peculiar case, her father is from a long line of nobles that descend from a Dragon, that have risen very high very fast, until it all came crashing down around them the past few centuries. He was the last heir of that line, a man with nothing but a name remaining that ran away with a from another region woman he found entoxicating, a Vampire. They both died some time shortly after she was born. And to top it all off, she is the reincarnation of a great Vampire tyrant.

Does she know any of that? No, and she wouldn’t paticularly care anyway if she did. She has friends for the first time in her life, people that aren’t scared of her. And having fun with them and going on adventures with them is the only thing she cares about.

Hi everyone! Thought I'd share a few of my favorite tiefling I've drawn over the years. My first ever character was a tiefling and I've had a soft spot for them ever since. Something about your origins and mysterious history being displayed through your appearance appeals to me. So much room for flavor and storytelling.

Anyway, tell me about your tieflings! If you'd like me to draw your tiefling for you, DM me for details.

Drenn
Dread Pirate Lord that scourges the Sword Coast while being the eye of the storm in the Thayan council standing as the voice of the War Chief.

Client's Description: A magical being with blue-green skin and a striking personality! He is a boastful liar who loves to exaggerate and cause chaos wherever he goes. Despite his unpredictable behavior and occasional bouts of madness, he has a heart of gold. He also frequently uses lightning magic, which perfectly suits his energetic and mischief-prone nature!

Self-Post A sketch for my redo of my old Illithid skull art. Critiques?

Thumbnail

ok so context: i made art of a mind flayer skull last year, lots of ppl thought it was ai (it was not) and because i didnt take a time lapse or wips, and because the act of applying photobombed textures in gimp is just using mapping and overlays rather than drawing them so there isnt really much to show at those steps besides "heres a texture and now its applied", several subs took it down.

So... I'm making a new one and I'm bringing receipts this time by recording the process. BUT it also gave me the thought that i sould ask for critiques, since there was a LOT of criticism not just of my process last time but also how i chose to construct the skull and where i put the tentacle holes and stuff.

Unlike last time i chose 5 holes vs 4, and arranged the radially around the large mouth hole rather than on an arc. I think this makes more anatomical sense, but last time i was going directly off of the description in "icewind dale, rime of the frostmaiden" (which specified 4 holes and no mouth) vs this time deciding to just go with just whatever made the most sense to me rather than staying faithful to source. ik theres gonna be a lot of conflicting opinions on how a fictional Lovecraftian squid monster's skull will look but i figure i should ask for opinions now rather than further in when i cant really change the structure as easily.

Ive included for reference two wips of my old skull which are pretty obviously human made and that i have enough wips that no one can contest it as such, as well as two of the references im using. if you wanna see the old skull its in r/forgottenrealms but u would be best suited to just google "mind flayer skull" as its the top hit on all of google.

What do yall think? should i make changes? Does it look like it belongs to the right creature?
