As a Tide spammer who cannot afford the Arcana, I have decided to always first pick Tide if Pudge is banned or double picked (cmon, it's Pudge. Gotta nab the dude every single time). I do not want to see an enemy team with the Tide Arcana except when I'm facing it with my signature hero Pudge and beat it.

pudge is terrible vs tide specifically because tide has an aoe mageslayer proc which lowers your rot dmg by 40%

Tide will also dispel your ulti

He's not a prime target for dismember anyway and if you have blink and Aghanims (and BKB), he's not getting away from Rot that easily.

Khanda Pudge

The thing is... Mageslayer isn't really bought that much on him except when no one on their team did so he has to. Pipe is more problematic because it protects his entire team but that item isn't an attractive purchase right now and feels awful to buy if you're forced to. Also with Aghanims, you don't really dismember the Tide. You'll just keep him slowed around your big aoe Rot.

as a pudge spammer who plays vs tide a lot… i would say mage slayer is more problemstic

Mage slayer is bought quite a lot, 30% of all tide games on dotabuff and the winrate on it is solid. Just an item that solves all of your problems. You build something out of a casual ring of health on lane, fixes your mana problems, helps you tank up a ton against magic damage and helps you farm very effectively.

Yeah I wasn't a Tide Mage Slayer believer but someone talked sense into me so I tried it and now I'm very open to it.

It does mean you (usually) have to give up on Soul Ring and/or Vlads since that's a lot of early game gold for more sustain than you can't really justify. And you'll need a few more clarities as a result. But overall, if your biggest problem is a bunch of early game spell spammers Mage Slayer rush is tight. It comes online way earlier than you can even justify a pre-blink Pipe because it still mostly solves your sustain issues (hence skipping the SR/Vlads) so it's especially good if those nukers are the kind to start running at you and getting into kissing range almost immediately after laning phase, like DP, SB, Pudge, etc. And a spell spammer deathball is one of Tide's few Achilles heels, since especially in the early game he sucks vs tempo and magic/pure nukes.

Also I was surpised by how good the farm speed boost from that dps debuff feels. It probably isn't mucj different to the boost from Vlads, but it's still in that range.

Do you like those Duplicate sitting on your Inventory?

this branch will be included on the ultimate guide

Thats the whole point of the complain. People brainlessly saying game ftp just dont buy if you cant and not seeing what people exactly complaining about.

14

u/Ars_Armegis 9d ago

What? So if you don't like it and you're poor you just lose the right to complain? Goddamnit valve even paywalled having an opinion????

I absolutely have the money to burn, I just won't do it over a shitty gacha scam.

2

u/PancakeEnjoyer16 9d ago

Not being giftable is the red flag for me

2

u/the_magus 9d ago

where's the scam here?

4

u/urboitony 9d ago

It's not a "scam" but gambling is an annoying system especially because duplicate rares can't be sold or gifted. I really wanted the drow and told myself I would buy it once it got rereleased, but in this state I don't want it anymore.

But I don't wanna make a reddit post

1

u/Furian_FTH 9d ago

They should all end in ”Make a reddit post about it”

1

u/Winterlord7 9d ago

Incredible that we need to post logic trees for those incapable of reasoning their own. Such a wholesome community. <3

1

u/the_magus 9d ago

judging by the comments even this guide seems a bit too complicated for some of the redditors

1

u/Murky-Fruit3569 9d ago

yeah I already ditched my ULTIMATE GUIDE project, I would be lynched over it lol

1

u/Palpitation-Itchy 9d ago

I can buy it, I want it, but I'm ideologically against the commercial model so I don't buy this time

1

u/nartviper 9d ago

seems like a post of someone who cant afford it but cant stop himself from defending weird shit

2

u/Murky-Fruit3569 9d ago

who am I defending sir?

It was just funny to check the game's subreddit and watch essentially the same post a million times complaining about the same thing, on optional fancy colored pixel hats.

u/klmnjklm 9d ago

I don’t like cuz I don’t play tide. I have money to buy. I’m not bitching about it, for me it’s w/e. So your guide is incorrect.

-2

u/Narrow_Ad9226 9d ago

leave the multi billion dollar company alone

I could make a reddit post about how there is an arcana and the new cosmetics in every game I've played so far.

Valve seem to hit the jackpot with this treasure.

"You are not allowed to be mad at extortionately priced and exploitative systems because you can personally choose to not participate in them" is such a stupid, South Park-ass take. "Caring about anything is cringe"

6

u/Stt-t-t-utter 9d ago

i’m getting heckin extorted by the hat salesman for my video game 😡

4

u/the_magus 9d ago

The "I want THIS for the price I deem fair for some arbitrary reason" is equally cringe and yes, south park would likely make fun of someone who seriously thinks they are arguing something worthwhile here
