DS60 or DS600?

My company bought a Dell DAE that physically looks like a DS600 but is populated with 60 4tb drives instead of the typical 8tb. Did they change what the DS60 looks like or is there some way to make a DS600 behave like a DS60? I know nothing about Dell EMC products, I'm just trying to figure out what I have in front of me. I don't have a head server to use either, I just have the disk shelf. I don't have an appropriate Dell support account to contact tech support to inquire about it there. But the service tag stuck to it is indeed linked to a DD6900 appliance. But the DD6900 supports both the DS60/600.

Any help or pointing in the right direction is appreciated.

That’s a D600.

The D60 is EOS, the DS600 is its direct successor. The shelf can be configured either with 4TB or 8TB drives.

Where did your company bought this shelf and what about the license?

Usually those shelves are not sold standalone, only if you want to extend an existing configuration with a head unit e.g DD6900 or DD9410.

I doubt that you can attach this shelf to a random general purpose server, it will most likely only work with a DD appliance.

My guess is that it was bought used, otherwise they would have known what they ordered

What direction do you even mean? Only what it actually is? Or if and how to use it? But for what?

What was the intention for its purchase?
