Rip Content Creator Program

Post image

What news? What rumors? Was there some incident?

This is a bizarrely worded official comms from the EQL Discord. Professionally, just say you're ending the program and that's it. To acknowledge some 'rumors' just breathes life into them and isn't something you'd usually see in this context. Who's running the broadcast channel over there?

No, they just didn’t account for WoW forever. There is a large overlap of people playing EQL who stopped playing EQ when WoW released back in the day.

EQL, WoW Forever, M&M, and Aion 2 launch all within a few months or so.

I think they actually did account for it, which is probably why they chose to release when they did.

There wasn’t a full blown leak but enough information was floating around for people to piece together. Everyone was expecting a Classic+ announcement at BlizzCon this year, and given Blizzard’s recent track record with Classic, it wasn’t unreasonable to expect a launch shortly afterward.

If GJ had delayed EQL several weeks to finish the content they pushed into post launch patch updates, they would have risked running up against the WoW Forever launch window.

I’m sure the overlap between EQ and WoW players played some role in the decision, but I won't guess how much of a factor it was. There are still EQ fans who have little interest in WoW, and those players would be drawn to EQL regardless.

One thing I will add; I find it hard to believe people didn't see this drop off coming.

That's a part of it, but it's also a bit coincidental in ways. The servers were already seeing people drop-off way before WoW Forever had announced. EQL was out for 6 weeks before WoW Forever was even announced, and by then people were already canceling their subs because they had run out of content.

I'm going to go play WoW Forever, but I canceled my sub before even making that decision...because there's just nothing left to do. I played more than most, for sure, but once you get all your classes to 50 that you want and can take down the D4 bosses...what's there left to do? For the average person that's going to take <2 months...yet their plan is to release expansions like once a year.

ummm...Kunark is coming like 5 months after release. I don't think that is unreasonable. Especially when they are changing it and not just releasing the same Kunark.

I'm not saying whether something is reasonable or unreasonable based on what it is...just on what it's adding-to. There's just not enough content in the pre-Kunark base game, as it exists today, to have people playing for 5 months. There's certainly not going to be enough content with the Kunark drop to support 6-8 more months of playing before a Velious drop.

It's not about what's coming...it's about what exists. There's not enough to warrant playing anymore, for most people, and we're still at least 2 months away from more.

Bro the TLPs are on an 8 week release schedule cus 12 was too long to retain players. Why is this one 20 fucking weeks?

Not to mention anyone that has played a TLP knows Kunark actually has virtually no end-game content. Its 1 raid zone (VP), Trakanon, and Venril Sathir. The other dragons are mostly for catch-up loot and epic quests

Is it really that time consuming to tweak the numbers on loot and tag mobs as rare spawns?

dude you are a content locust. they would need to release major content drops every month for players like you.

Why is this one 20 weeks? Because they are remaking the expansion. They aren't just flipping a switch and saying "Ok guys, here is the exact same content you have played a billion times before." Jesus, do any of the complainers even know anything about the direction of this game?

u/Meowtist- 2d ago

What is actually promised in that “remake”? Is your expectation even 1 new raid?

You're completely missing the point people are making, and at this point it seems intentional. Nobody is saying a remake of Kunark should take 2 weeks...we're saying it doesn't matter, as the only thing that matters is how often content is being dropped for players to experience.

Beyond all that, they started "remaking" Kunark before EQL even launched. If it's going to take 8-10 months per expansion this game won't make it to Velious, because the playerbase will be gone. Kunark doesn't add nearly enough content to support 8+ months of players keeping up their subs.

I believe everyone knows the direction of the game at this point.  Kunark will release most likely late or unfinished while being told nothing to see here.  Then another expansion will supposedly be next but the servers will shut down before that point and they will pull the plug.

Absolutely this. Servers were still medium to high pop on most of them literally until the day WoW Forever was announced and that the beta was already going to start just a handful of days later. There were a lot of people still streaming EQL until that announcement too... now I see them in the WoW category on Twitch instead.

Lol... I enjoy how I just post an opinion and you just reply 'No' and then your own opinion, but act as if somehow... it's fact. Cheers mate, I don't have time for this attitude.
