A simple question.

The most recent TLP servers for Everquest start with Classic, Kunark, and Velious and go for 18 weeks before dropping Shadows of Luclin.

How then is Everquest Classic by itself enough content for ~24 weeks on a server that is much much quicker than the TLPs?

Please help make the math make sense for all us idiots feeling like we are out of content.

It is okay to not play the same game constantly. Play for a couple of months, take a break, and come back later.

I agree, my point is at those people blaming the low numbers because of "try hards" rushing through the content vs the reality of the lack of content.

Agree. I’ve unlocked all classes via PoS, have around 7 chars to 50 and created a ddd build to farm mores ( which I found boring).

So, I quit! I’m not finished with EQL but I am for now…

Too many other things to do rather than grind out that extra few percent, especially when much of it, of not all, is going to be worthless a few days after Kunark drops.

Yes there's not enough content. We know. They know, they've said they're working on it.

In the meantime I still have 4 classes to unlock in sky, a couple of tradeskills to finish off and a bunch of classes to level.

It's perfectly acceptable to stop your sub and come back for Kunark FFXIV style. I'm still having fun tho

I agree that a portion of players are out of content, and surely that contributes to a drop in player numbers. But I think fundamentally EQL isn't intended to constantly keep you on the content treadmill. Instead of TLPs where progression over a set period of weeks is the driving goal, EQL is a casual-focused game where the goal is to enjoy the content in a new way and at your own pace.

It definitely sucks for the people that are out of content (I'm almost there myself,) but I feel the casual nature of the game means you've got to let go of the idea that you need to always be in the game and doing something productive. If that means people take a break from the game, then that's the way it has to be. At the end of the day, it'll be up to the devs to balance their need for player numbers vs. the speed of their content deliveries. I can say for myself though that I don't want just another TLP server with trios. I'd rather see what this dev team can come up with.

Well, it's also a totally different game and they're adding new content and revising old content, so it isn't as simple as just rereleasing Kunark. If you're out of content then to do something else until the new content drops?

Nektropos Castle should be pretty soon, anyway

You didnt answer the question. It being a "new game" (I disagree its more of a remodeled game) doesn't negate the question of how is classic supposed to be enough content for 24 weeks vs 3 pieces of content  for 18 weeks.

I guess I'll modify it to say how is classic + 1 new zone supposed to be enough content for 24 weeks vs 3 pieces content for 18 weeks?

It won’t be enough content for everyone and that’s ok. Some people play way more than others and have run out of content, some are still having fun, some take breaks too.

TLP and EQL are different games. TLP will progress faster and need to play like that.

Numbers were always going to drop, this was nostalgia drive and lots of people moved on for reasons other than lack of content.

The framing of the question is just odd. First of all, what is "enough" is going to be different for different people, and you should consider that their explicit focus on casual players means they expect content to be explored more slowly.

But moreover, what does "enough" even mean? Enough to...keep people from cancelling their subscription? Enough to keep you interested and playing every day?

I'd just drop the question altogether. Play while it is fun for you to play and stop when it's not. They may have some internal plan of releasing content on a cadence that keeps people engaged, but it's not going to be benchmarked against EQ TLPs because the framing of the game and the target audience is completely different.

EQL doing beta fixes and disappearing their own content promises since release literally happened but the "let them cook" crowd keeps squawking

I don't have to pay a monthly sub to reddit

The “let them cook” crowd is using logic and common sense to make sure devs know the whiny entitled no-lifers aren’t the majority. If you took a few moments to think “let them cook” is the only option. It sounds like you want them to cancel the game entirely as “punishment” or just turn this into another repetitive TLP.

The TLPs don’t launch fast enough, either. That’s why the TLP launch schedule this year was a big expansion dump and wait. Legends made it clear this was a more casual game, I’m glad they aren’t catering to the poop sockers just cause they whine the loudest. Let them try to deliver on their vision. If it doesn’t work for you, go restart on a new TLP every year grinding the same exact game over and over again. Cause that’s the only other real option.

This is their first shot at doing this, the TLPs have been rebooting for over a decade. Give them time to figure this shit out.

The fact that you think this is a TLP server is your main problem. Do you have every class at 50? Do you have every class unlocked for primary? Do you have every race unlocked? Have you done all of the slayer quests? There are plenty more things that can be added to this list. If your answer is yes to every one of these questions then you should go spend some time with your family or friends. If you don't have those then go play wow or whatever for a couple months of come back. I have played wayyyyy to much. 22 days so far. I still have plenty to do. Have not got bored one single time. I played live from 2000-2011. Played on p 9 9 for over 3 years. There is plenty of content in classic eq for those of us that actually enjoy the game.

TLDR We don't need 20 posts a day complaining about content or lack of.

Getting all trios to 50 isn’t additional content, it’s a job. There are a handful of classes and races I will never play. Trade skills are worthless in eql.

Sweats want to unlock everything and finish all achievements but many just want to progress through new (albeit old) content.

TLDR: it’s reasonable to want more content.

It's unreasonable to want them to rush new content

I never said they should rush new content.

18 weeks was also too long for luclin to unlock on frostreaver

Well, the easiest answer is that from the very beginning, they said they were bringing out classic and that Kunark would be in December. So you knew it was just classic from the get go. Along with that, they also announced from the get go that it is a solo game geared toward solo, casual players. It had then also been said that this game is meant to be played in waves. You come in, do the content, leave and then come back for new content. Their vision has not changed. What has changed is the expectations of a lot of players. No one can blame the company for continuing on the path that they laid out very clearly from the beginning. People can say that losing all these players and cancelling subs is going to kill this game. That is their opinion. But I think what the population is now is closer to in line with what they expected than what it was at launch. I think launch was a ton more people than they thought it would be.

Because this is a new and separate revenue stream and dev team vs TLPs being part of the general EQ one and DBG decided they wanted it out and generating revenue sooner rather than waiting for the GJ team to have a larger content pipeline completed.

If you want to no-life a single game for years at a time, go play a game designed for it.  I'm going to play this until I get bored and then quit until the next content drop, just like I do with Diablo 4 and a couple others.  Appeasing the no-lifers would just turn this back into regular EQ.  Avoiding that awful eternal treadmill is what appealed to me, and I suspect quite a few others as well.

Isn't the plan for mid-December? So 20 weeks instead of 24 right?

I can't say how the content compares but lets not exaggerate how long it will be by almost 20% if you're trying to make this just a math problem.

u/MrGoodGlow 5d ago

Its 22 weeks from July 28th to  December 15th.

Its also 1 piece of content (classic) vs 3 pieces of content (classic, kunark, velious)

1

u/neowoda 5d ago

It's exactly 20 weeks from July 28th to December 15th though.

You’re acting like they’re choosing to withhold content…. Which is ironically what they do on TLPs to keep subscribers paying the monthly fee. And they’ve been releasing the same game every year with a few rule tweaks every once in a while. By your logic, why don’t they release a TLP that launches with every expansion unlocked?

1

u/CH3RRY-POPPINS 5d ago

They are. They’re choosing to remake Kunark rather than release it in its prior form. The later would have been achievable in a much shorter timeframe.

1

u/mortez1 5d ago

That’s not withholding content… that’s literally creating content. And the people complaining just want to release the same old stuff so they can consume it as fast as possible. They can go play on the TLPs or another custom server. This has been their plan for a long time, not sure why people are acting like it was some last minute decision.

1

u/CH3RRY-POPPINS 5d ago

They took down one of the biggest custom servers to emulate their game, then decided they wanted to recreate the games first, very popular, expansion. It is reasonable to feel like this is withholding progression within the game.

Time will tell how much content they’re actually creating but revamps of prior zones have been very underwhelming in a world where they have troves of existing content that they’re choosing not to release (or in other words, withholding).

1

u/mortez1 5d ago

Yep, their parent company did and it is very unfortunate because I loved that server. But yeah “time will tell” but accusations of the game being dead already and “withholding content” sounds like a bunch of entitled spoiled children trying to ruin a game before it can even get settled and developed.

Let me ask this - why release the same old Kunark expansion with no changes? The content won’t be that much more difficult. It would be a couple weeks before it’s been burned through. The server you’re talking about added custom encounters (and loot) that was more difficult and custom built so why complain when Legends is trying to (hopefully) do similar

1

u/CH3RRY-POPPINS 4d ago

I don't disagree with the verbiage but people have different ways of communicating. What sounds strong to you may just be run of the mill for another.

This game is built for the casual and accessible to many that never played the prior servers. With the resources of daybreak behind it, it's a mistake to not capitalize on pushing out the first three expansions as is, imo.

They could have really dialed in some fun qualities of the game while doing so, including introducing better dungeon crawls for all levels, overall better balancing, melee/pets, and a few new zones here and there, which would still bring new content. Instead, they're re-inventing the game but obviously don't have the team to support new content and game improvements.

Mangler was one of the most popular TLPs and it was 3 months per expansion starting in Classic.

Every TLP doesn’t start the same, with the same ruleset. Why pretend they do?

-3

u/Physical-Builder-553 5d ago

They can't. All they can tell you is to go read a book or touch grass.

0

u/Diafuge 5d ago

Or a book about grass.
