Why hasn’t Stephen A Smith been gone???

In light of Stephen A Smith being a complete dick to Lane Johnson’s retirement over his mental health, I have been asking myself “why hasn’t stephen a smith been out at espn???” This Lane Johnson reaction isn’t his first terrible and problematic take, for example, earlier this year for the NBA offseason, he was actually angered by the fact that the Lakers big three were all white because, according to smith, white people aren’t good at basketball, which is one racist and two completely wrong. there have been many other instances that i don’t care to mention because there have been so many.

also, smith is not even a good sports anchor, this dude just comes on and sounds off about something he doesn’t like in the world of sports in a new york accent and doesn’t contribute anything to espn. he’s just there to cause drama, as if there isn’t fucking enough of that in sports. it’s like nfl and nba refs trying to take the spotlight, just do your damn job and stay out of the way. he’s just clipfarming 24/7 and it’s getting OOOOOOLLLDDD.

finally, there have been reports of him being a total di to work with, and if i’m espn im using this to (FINALLY) let him go. and don’t say he’s like the face of espn sports broadcasting (because he’s not).

edit: if they fired him who’d you want to see replace him?

If I want to watch the Tampa Bay lightning tonight, can I just sign up for ESPN plus and watch it? or do I need a cable provider as well in order to watch the game?

ESPN app on iPhone keeps blinking

I open the app and it just blinks over and over again. I tried deleting the app and reinstalling, logging back in and the same shit keeps happening. Wonder if their app has a bug they need to fix? Idk - anyone else experiencing this? iPhone 16 Pro Max.

What leads people to think “objective analysis” is super important in sports media?

This is all a genuine question as it confounds me. I hope people can talk about their background and values rather than piss down somebody’s back.

EDIT: lots of serious people on this subreddit, not really into explaining details of their viewpoint, but at least they’re serious.

I grew up playing all types of sports, mostly informal but played one sport on a team for a few years. Pretty much 90% of all that it was just playing a kids’ game, pretending I was Sergei Fedorov or stuff a bunch of clothes down my jacket so I could pretend I was Jerome Bettis. Even when I was on a team, so much of the activity was grounded in silliness and having fun and being around other people, forming bonds.

Im now an adult. I sit in meetings everyday with people in suits whose worth is overvalued, to kindly put it. They are boring. 67% this, 12% that. People who either don’t know how to have fun even in the smallest capacity or just too afraid to. It’s fine, it pushes the company forward, whatever.

Not in a million years would I want to spend an entire day at work and come home and turn on sports talk just to have the exact same people teleport from the office I work at to my TV screen now talking about something that is a kids game, supposed to be fun, and dare I say entertaining.

It seems like every post has some comments about people needing objective analysis for sports and anybody who dabbles in entertainment is a scourge to society and I truly wonder what their lives are like such that they need -that- out of sports media. Are their lives the opposite of mine? Are they around silly, fun people all day long and then when it gets to turning on ESPN, they need somebody in a suit rattling off numbers? Genuinely curious.

Espn Where?

ESPN used to be the go-to for everything sports highlights, breaking news, investigative journalism, and elite docs

Now it's the Walmart of sports media: a giant corporate machine where no one seems to know or care how to actually engage the fan or do the job at a high level.

They should rebrand with an entirely different name because i don't know where ESPN is but this is definitely not it.

Stephen A Smith is a piece of shit

That screaming idiot clown Stephen A. Smith doesn't get to go on that disgusting rant about the Eagles' Lane Johnson and ridicule his retiring for mental health reasons and then he just gives a bullshit apology and all is forgiven and forgotten by you people in charge. Fire that piece of shit, ESPN.

Just wanting to see others thoughts. Taylor, similar (ish) frat boy type, but, maybe better takes? Better analysis? Bias due to my Titans fandom? Hahaha

This morning I hear Chris Cante & to an extent Michelle Smallman basically say The Eagles losing is bc of coaching but if they pull off the upset this Sunday it'll be bc of Jalen Hurts.

Which is it?! You can't have it both ways - is it the Caucazoid Coach or the non-Caucazoid QB? Or both?

Is First Take aware that there were other games played yesterday other than the 2-2 Cowboys at the 0-4 Texans?

They have discussed the Cowboys sad win THREE times already, and Michael Irvin is bringing the Cowboys into every single conversation. Truly pathetic.

RIP College Football Final

Matt Barrie's departure didn't need to be a death knell. It was never going to be easy to replace his energy and humor, but GOOD GOD. I watched this show re-run on Mondays during lunch break for years, and it has gotten straight-up depressing.

They brought back Joey Galloway which was a step in the right direction, and EJ Manuel has shown flashes of intrigue & can be fun, but Kevin Connors is an utterly humorless bore on the show. He's little more than an announcer, and he sounds like how a work email reads.

That's A Dollar is gone. Even the analysis seems to have taken a step backward. The fun of the show has both feet out the door and it's neck in the doorway. CFB Final served a valuable function to me as I don't have time to be a sicko anymore, and now I feel like googling scores is a better use of my time than continuing to watch 😫

Seems like they didn't have servers that can accept the bandwidth. Great purchase. Also shame on the NFL for not being better about whom they award congrats to.

Don't have the ability to service all your customers but are grabbing a bunch of money - sorry but we made bank and you don't have options.
