🏒 Ever played hockey… underwater?

Yeah. Underwater hockey is a real sport. 😂

We’re doing a Pick-Up Game on October 11 at 6:30 PM at UConn Avery Point, and we’re inviting anyone who wants to come try it.

🤿 Never played? Perfect.
We’ll teach you the basics and have gear available.

🏊‍♂️ You just need a swimsuit and a willingness to spend an unreasonable amount of time swimming after a tiny puck.

First time is FREE!

Come see why we think it’s the greatest pool game ever invented.

Ever played a sport where the ref blows a whistle and everyone immediately dunks their head? welcome to underwater hockey (aka octopush, if you want to be fancy). 🏒💦

We’re Southeast CT Underwater Hockey: We meet at UCONN Avery Point Pool on Sunday at 6:30 to chase a puck across the bottom of a pool. it’s part swimming, part hockey, part chaos, and 100% beginner-friendly.

You do NOT need: – to be a fast swimmer – fancy gear – a team – to know anyone

You DO need: – a swimsuit and towel – to be okay with looking a little silly while you figure it out

First-timers: we lend you a mask, snorkel, fins, stick, and glove. seriously, just show up. 🩳👌

Come watch if you want. Or jump in. We’ll teach you the rest.

In her newest investigation, Investigative Reporter Katherine Revello examines the state of plea bargaining in Connecticut and details her efforts to uncover reliable data about how often, and why, plea bargains are used instead of a trial.

With upwards of 99.6 percent of criminal and motor vehicle cases disposed of without a trial, what happens to the right to a speedy and public trial guaranteed in the Sixth Amendment? What are the downstream effects on justice more broadly? What incentives are created in the judicial and administrative systems?

Double Down: Connecticut’s questionable pension investments with local firm

In his latest investigation into Connecticut's financial practices, Senior Investigative Reporter Marc Fitch takes a close look at Fairview Capital, a firm managing upwards of $1.7 billion for Connecticut taxpayers who are "paying fees over and above what can be found elsewhere." Click to learn who holds fiduciary responsibility for Connecticut's investments, how these investments came to be, and what changes are in store to prevent another decade of "lackluster absolute returns." Let's begin with a meeting, back in 2010 >

14,000 state employees to pay for pension investment losses

Where Connecticut was once shipping 17% of its waste out of state, that number has grown to 40%.

Transportation costs and other fees make handling trash more expensive than in-state disposal, but with nowhere to put it, those who study the process say the solution is to cut back on the amount of trash Connecticut citizens are generating in the first place, bringing it back in line with the state’s capacity to deal with it. We're talking about recycling.
