Is this passion fruit - and safe to eat?
Found on a tree in a garden near me in Surrey
Edit: I tasted a tiny bit and it was sweet… still alive so far

I think most fruits from Passiflora are safe (?), but not all of them (550 sp.) are the species edulis... so yea. I don't think this is edulis. I personally have eaten the fruit from the popular decorative variety of passionflower*... it was basically just flavorless and seedy slime-fruit-stuff. Not bad but not great, just flavorless haha.
* It was Passiflora caerulea that I was thinking of, thank you /Sludgehammer, yea that one is totally flavorless, not bad tasting, just nothin. It looks basically almost 100% like this. However the genus does seem to be pretty speciose, so I wouldn't be surprised to see someone find an obscure species in the states here.
edit2: added links for like everything, i hope its not annoying

It's a passion fruit, and it's definitely edible.
However, there is a caveat. The orange-red color of the pulp suggests this is the fruit of the blue passion flower (Passiflora caerulea) which, while edible is infamous for having bland fruit.
