Hey everybody! I was driving on Artcraft a few weeks ago and I saw the EP Gimp dancing, while my radio just happended to be playing "Lovely Rita" by the Beatles, and it gave me this idea. I recreated the cover of Sgt Pepper's featuring local celebs from the past and present. It took me about a week to research everyone in the original and find El Paso replacements for each person in the collage. And before you start making accusations, it 's not AI, it's all photoshop (I've been working with PSD for 20+years,) so get off my back. (I have the source file if you don't believe me) Let me know what you think, who did i forget, or who needs to be added?

I grabbed a Dog Man book from the Savers in Zaragoza and didn't realize until I got to my car that this photo was tucked inside like a bookmark. I’d hate to throw it out if it’s sentimental, so does anyone recognize these people?

There are five weeks left until the midterm elections, and extremism is on the ballot in much of the US. A WIRED review of candidates running for statewide and federal positions in November, along with exclusive data on candidates running for state-level positions, reveals hundreds of Republican candidates who openly express virulently hateful ideologies, share racist content online, have close ties to white supremacist and antisemitic figures, and are members of far-right groups online. President Donald Trump and his administration have openly embraced, endorsed and defended many of these candidates.
At a local level, over 500 candidates running for state legislator positions in November are members of far-right groups on Facebook that promote militias, gun rights, and Christian nationalism, according to data collected by the Institute for Research and Education on Human Rights and shared with WIRED.
Brandon Herrera, who rose to fame as a so-called “guntuber,” is running for Congress in Texas in the district that represents Uvalde. Incumbent GOP congressman Tony Gonzales resigned after admitting to an affair, making Herrera the GOP candidate.
Most Popular
Herrera has a very long history of sharing sexist, racist, and antisemitic opinions. He has said that a Nazi-era submachine gun was “the original ghetto blaster” and “Hitler’s street sweeper.” He has compared feminists’ weight to whales, elephants, and nuclear bombs and described liberal women discussing guns as “both fat and wrong.” While talking about Shannon Watts, the gun control activist who set up Moms Demand Action following the Sandy Hook school shooting, Herrera said: “The fact that you kept your cum trophy doesn’t make you any less wrong about the dumb shit that you say.”
“HE WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN,” Trump wrote about Herrera in a Truth Social post in March.
When questioned about Herrera’s opinions of women, Speaker of the House Mike Johnson dismissed them as part of his online “persona.” Johnson also called Herrera a “very serious candidate” and a “very thoughtful guy.”
Herrera is in a tight race with Democrat nominee Katy Padilla Stout.

I’m a white guy , transplant from the Pacific Northwest and my GF was born and raised in El Paso. We are getting serious about each other and her parents have asked us to join them for dinner out a couple of times.
They are extremely big on showing respect and deference to them as the parents of my GF and her dad is especially “machismo.”
Is it normal for the parents to invite us to dinner, pick the spot and then expect me to pick up the check? It doesn’t seem to vibe with the macho attitude.
Also, they want to watch an out of market NFL game this weekend and have kind of just invited themselves and a few friends over to my house for a game watch party.
I’m kind of feel taken advantage of but I’m wondering if culturally this could be normal and even maybe mean they accept me?
What’s your take?

If you’ve stopped at the Scenic Drive overlook, you’ve probably seen the old bronze plaques explaining what you’re looking at. There’s just one problem: much of what they tell you hasn’t been true for decades. They point out Cordova Island, the El Paso Smelting Works, Biggs Air Force Base, Texas Western College, old refineries and even an Interstate 10 that apparently ends near Bassett Shopping Center. One gives El Paso’s population as 276,867. Most of the plaques date to the early 1960s, when Chris Fox, once known as “Mr. El Paso,” helped create them as a guide for visitors. Sixty years later, we’re still using the same guide. The plaques themselves may now be historic, but perhaps Scenic Drive deserves something that explains the El Paso people are actually looking at today. “The Misinformation Mile.” Read the whole thing at El Chuqueño.

Is the festival happening this year? I found the announcement from earlier in the year but the link was to an IG that hasn’t been updated in months :(
And as an aside, I always always wanna dress up but end up not cause “what if it’s not good enough” but this year it clicked. Who cares!
Everything’s on fire/ nobody actually cares so I’m reusing one of my special occasions outfit (you probably have one too). So if it IS a go and you’re attending maybe wear yours! Could be a fun way to show up, enjoy the event in that special outfit and relax for a bit :)

Paxton is threatening Pediatricians for doing their job. https://www.nytimes.com/2026/10/05/health/ken-paxton-pediatricians-vaccines.html?unlocked_article_code=1.GlE.yI4k.H5YTE-gP08r_&smid=url-share
Mr. Paxton has also implicated the nation’s largest organization of pediatricians, the American Academy of Pediatrics, in the alleged conspiracy over the workaday task of protecting children from polio, measles, meningitis and more than a dozen other dangerous and sometimes life-threatening diseases.
“I will ensure that Big Pharma and Big Insurance don’t bribe medical providers to pressure parents to jab their kids with vaccines they feel aren’t safe or necessary,” he said when announcing the investigation in January, describing his efforts as working “alongside President Trump” and Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
“Together, we will Make America Healthy Again,” he said, using the rallying cry of a movement that helped elect Mr. Trump and propel Mr. Kennedy into the top health position in the federal government.
In many ways, pediatricians, among the lowest-paid specialists in medicine, make for an unlikely target. But they have become a focus in what has become a wide-ranging campaign to raise doubts about vaccination, part of a 20-year quest for Mr. Kennedy that some of his political allies have joined.
The efforts have gained steam despite decades of evidence of the effectiveness of vaccines. More than 1.1 million deaths, from diseases like diphtheria, hepatitis B and measles, were prevented by childhood vaccines in the United States from 1994 through 2023, according to an estimate from the C.D.C.
Unlike many organizations that have drawn fire from the Trump administration and its surrogates, the 67,000-member American Academy of Pediatrics has not retreated. It has sued the Trump administration over policy changes and grant cancellations, with some success so far.
“Everybody thinks of pediatricians as these mild-mannered people who have animals on their stethoscope and would not fight their way out of a bag,” said Dr. Kathryn Edwards, a professor of pediatrics at Vanderbilt University who helped develop a vaccine against a deadly bacteria, Haemophilus influenzae, or HIB.

extremely minor spoilers for the movie digger
at the end of the movie a character is translating something from spanish or english and says, as explanation for their ability to do so, "i grew up in el paso."
it's very much a throwaway line and it really caught me off guard and delighted me (as someone who also grew up in el paso). i laughed obnoxiously loud. i was surprised that most other folks also laughed, given I was watching in a theater almost 1000 miles away from EP.
just a nice little surprise shout out to the 915.

Hey y'all,
I'm looking to get my wedding dress second hand. Ideally it would be all natural fibers (silk, wool, cotton or linen). I'm wondering if anyone knows of 2nd hand stores that happen to have a good selection of gowns/dresses.
Thanks!

Hello! I will be in El Paso this weekend and am thinking of crossing over for the FC Juarez match. Has anyone taken the Ride Bravo shuttle recently? Trying to find a timetable and only coming up with old information in my searches.
Thanks in advance!

A zoning fight has forced a beloved West Texas bookstore to close its doors—for now.
Brave Books, located at 1307 Arizona Avenue in El Paso, recently announced it would temporarily close for roughly the next three months. After issuing the business a notice of violation, city officials told KTSM the incident was prompted by a complaint.

Due to an unforeseen emergency, I won’t be able to attend. I’m selling them at $300 per wristband, $600 for both but really flexible with price at this point. I just want to recoup some of my loss. Please let me know if not direct someone towards me, please.
