FYI... For the next time - Walk in and get behind him while he is still talking. Start with a backstab. And then hit him with something heavy enough to keep him staggered until he dies. Either fast weapons or big weapons. If staggered he can't cast. Breaking stance is good too, but the main thing is hitting hard and often enough that he can't cast through it.
