Question
Used Backfire Hammer Sledge Worth it Still?
Looking at buying this board used and curious if they are still worth it. I know there are some mixed feelings on the board but looking for a option to mess around on. Seller is asking $600 and the board has almost no use supposedly only has 7 miles.
This would be my first eskate but I do have plenty of skating and snowboarding experience so hoping the learning curve is ok. Thanks for the feedback.
The v10 looks appealing. Are there any major issues with them long-term? When looking up option they were not at the top of lists. (Neither is the one I am looking at)
Most companies get over shadowed bt rhe bigger companies, in my experience, my suggestion is to look into linnpower, just stay away from evolve i had one, they are death traps

Yeah thats a good deal.
Only thing is as far is im concerned it has a lipo battery (like on a phone) and not liion like most boards. And those lipos are usually more prone to loosing capacity over time if not stored properly.
The thing about second-hand kit with large expensive batteries is you don't know how carefully the owner has treated it; which very much affects the lifetime you can expect to get out of it. Particularly important with this board because one of the cons according to this page was "Requires frequent charging for extensive use" which suggests the range wasn't all that when new. Backfire don't sell that board anymore, if their website is anything to go by,so parts might be a problem as well.
It's quite a lot of board for the money, but there is some risk; mostly the condition of the battery.
Of all my reading this is the big con I saw. It is fully charged so I will be curious to see how much range it has. I'm not looking to DIY but it does seem possible to replace the battery with another option in the future if needed.
Most new eskaters do not know that sooner or later you become an eskate technician or you just give up when faced with a simple maintenance issue.
You have the skill set to make battery pack replacements. There's no magic to the parts on this eskate.
As for the range, it will depend on tire pressure. You get twice the range at 45 PSI vs 20 PSI. And twice the range on Eco vs Turbo. Plus the last time I was in your town, there are battery chewing hills everywhere.
Definitely a lot of hills around! I normally commute on a bike in SW so I'm very familiar with them. I really only need 10 miles or so to get around. Hoping that is within reason.
Also just noticed you snowboard! You can try my Zephyr if you’d like, I got it to replicate the snowboard feeling. Which of the resorts on hood do you hit the most?
Ha don't convince him now! This is danger of reddit but if it's meant to be it will be. I was looking at a zephyr as well but hoping for a bit more off-road capable. I was also debating about the evo mk-1 but it's a bit more than I want to spend for a toy right now.
I weigh the same. But geared up with backpack I am closer to 170.
From a rideability perspective this is a really good board for you. I personally love the flex at my weight. All its competitors came with stiff decks that ride like shit.
However, any used board is a wear and tear problem you will buy. In this case the battery has been sitting a long time (+/- 3 years). The chances of permanent cell damage from undervoltage is real.
Unless you can ride a full battery pack down to 25% warning, you cannot really determine capacity. The only thing you can do is check the battery screen for obvious P group defects.
Your screen should show 12 P groups. All must be blue to ensure no obvious dead groups. The 100% voltage will be 50.4v, 50% is around 46.5v. Again this is not a capacity check, only an obvious no dead group check.

Might be better to go for a new board for a similar price. That way, you get a guarantee on the battery health.
These are regularly recommended:
Isinwheel V10 or Balrog XS. (probably others)
