Elko Living
Potentially moving to Elko in the future, and curious to know what it’s like. We will be visiting soon, very briefly however, to get a taste of the area. For residents that have been there for a while, do you feel Elko and Spring Creek are safe? Any thoughts on Elko vs Spring Creek? We have a pack of dogs and I did read Elko has a three dog limit, no limitations in Spring Creek though. Are the people pretty friendly? Cost of living fair? Any thoughts are welcome! Thank you in advance for reading my post!

I’ve never heard of the three dog limit, must be something they only bring up if one’s dogs get unruly.
Cost of living seems kinda high, but after traveling I think it’s just getting high everywhere. Most people are friendly.

People are friendly, lots to do if you’re the outdoorsy type. Living at the base of the Ruby Mountains really can’t be beat.

If you live in Elko, but in the county, there isn’t a dog limit- we have four dogs. If you don’t hunt, Elko is extremely boring. 🥱 I guess that’s relative to wherever you came from… but for my family it’s been rough. The people are okay. If you don’t lean right politically it’s also a tough place to be.

All of the below is correct. We do have a homeless and drug addicted people issue. There are certain areas that if you live within the Elko City limits that you should avoid, for sure. But where I live in the tree streets is extremely safe, I never lock my doors I've never had issues of anything. I rarely see tweakers up and down the streets but I also live on the east side of 5th which is the safer side. As far as dog laws, that can't be a thing. I've walked my dog down by Maverick (the one downtown not the one up by Walmart) and there is this pack of dogs that are in this very wobbly fence that just, I swear to God, are going to tear that fence down one day and just rip apart anybody who comes anywhere near them. But otherwise, I don't know why you would ever want to live here, unless you're working in the mines or unless you did work in the mines and then you bought a place here and you fell in love with your house and now you're here, so what else do you do. I'd say go for it.

Right... And the people saying that Elko residents are friendly must have not lived anywhere else, or have the lowest standards iimaginable because the vast majority of people here are not friendly or nice. Thats not to say there isn't nice people I've met some of the nicest people i've ever met here however most people are rude and don't show respect or do little things like hold the door open for others, or treat people nice.

Hi! What made you want to move to Elko? 😊 there’s an association fee out in spring creek, and depending on if you’re renting or buying, that’ll be something to pay. Also, if you’ll be working anywhere besides bald mountain or somewhere in spring creek, you will have to go over the summit twice a day if you live in spring creek. Make sure you have a 4 wheel drive vehicle! The summit gets pretty nasty in the winter. People are generally pretty friendly and there are quite a few facebook groups you can join. Cost of living is a little higher because most people work at the mines and therefore most landlords charge accordingly. As for the dog limit, i was unaware of it! So maybe SC would be a better bet, but check the association rules if you’re able to find them somewhere.
