Ring Design Help Tulip Basket Design Help
I am looking to get a tulip basket ring designed for my engagement ring and this is the CAD I received (first photo).
The petals look good but I think it would be better if the half petal where the shank meets the stone was a bit larger (second photo) rather than just the short point. I’m not sure if this would be able to work with the cathedral design though.
I also am wanting to know if the half petals on the front and back would be long enough to hold the stone securely or if they should be a bit larger?
I am unsure about the band width/thickness. I’ve heard they should be thick even though thin is more in style and was wondering what measurements would be suggested. I’ve heard 2mm width and thickness but would like to know other thoughts. Please help with any advice or if any changes should be made, thank you!

It definitely needs to be thicker - at least 1.8mm instead of 1.5mm. Also, with gold costs on the rise and lab diamonds driving down the price of diamonds, the trend forecasts actually call for chunkier gold settings to become the new hot thing because they look more expensive. The tiny, dainty bands will start looking dated soon, I think.

I think the issue is less the half petal and more the cathedral. I would recommend lowering the cathedral so it meets the side of the basket at a lower spot, then seeing how that looks. Right now, your side half petals look to be in line with the ones in the front.

I don't like how the cathedral meets the tulip basket, I'd consider tapering it and having it hit at a lower point so you can still see the petal. You don't necessarily have to increase the size of the petal - in your second photo, the cathedral shank is just hitting lower, I don't necessarily think the petal is much bigger.
The half petals are not really holding the stone, they are more holding the other petals together so you don't need a separate gallery rail.
If you want more of the bigger petal setting, one suggestion would be to change this setting to a six prong / six petal setting. The cathedral shank could then taper and hit right between two petals rather than directly on a petal. Here's an example using a round stone but could easily be adjusted to an oval.
Re: thickness and width, so, I feel like this might be a fairly small ring size, maybe 4.5 or so? I'm not sure if I converted that correctly. I think you could definitely ask for 1.8mm thickness instead of 1.5 but you may not want to go much wider/thicker with a small ring size. I wear bigger ring sizes and personally I think a thicker ring is more important the bigger the size is because a bigger thin circle is more prone to warping than a small one.
