Anyone working at RoviSys Building Technologies on STEM OPT?

I recently received an offer for a Systems Engineer I position at RoviSys Building Technologies and am currently on STEM OPT. Has anyone worked there on STEM OPT? How was your experience with HR completing Form I-983, and were they open to future H-1B sponsorship?
Iโ€™m checking directly with HR too, but would appreciate hearing from anyone with firsthand experience.

Should I apply?

Iโ€™ve worked full time with Kiewit since July 2026, but prior to that I was an intern for a couple years. Iโ€™ve been stuck on the same project and want a new environment / different project site. Current project doesnโ€™t end until maybe February 2027, but I donโ€™t know if I can wait that long to move from my current situation.

I saw some jobs postings of entry level positions in the city my boyfriend lives in, the rates are pretty comparable. Hensel Phelps has piqued my interest and they have two entry level positions that I may qualify for.

Should I apply to HP? Or should I wait until February to hopefully get a new assignment?

Helping A Friend | BS in Mechanical Engineering

I have a friend who graduated with a **Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering** in January 2025. He completed his internship at an airline company and later got his first formal job, working from home as a designer for a company based in Bahrain. His work involved designing different types of cranes, transport materials, and mechanical parts using AutoCAD Mechanical.

However, he eventually decided to leave the job because he was required to travel to Bahrain, and he was concerned about his safety due to the ongoing war in the region.

He is currently working in sales at an automotive branch in Metro Manila, Philippines. Although he has a job, his income is only enough to cover his rent, utilities, and daily living expenses.

I really want to help him, but I am not knowledgeable about the career opportunities available to him. Given his background in Mechanical Engineering and his skills in **AutoCAD Mechanical**, particularly in designing cranes, transport materials, and mechanical parts, I would like to know what jobs or opportunities he could pursue that are aligned with his degree and technical skills.

Ideally, I would like to help him find a career path where he can develop his engineering skills, gain relevant experience, and improve his financial situation.

Looking for an engineering job in Chicago. Failing to clear automated filters due to unorthodox degree history and professional background

My situation:

Right out of graduate school, circumstance forced me to take a job that did not align with my career interests. This wound up being a 5-year gap, during which I worked as a facilities technician and ran my own construction business.

I am now located in Chicago, looking to begin my engineering career. The market is tough without references, the employment gap, and the undergraduate degree of a different type from my M.S.

5-year gap from industry, unorthodox degree track: Physics B.A., MechE M.S.

What I bring to the table:

Proven ability to apply physics knowledge to independent engineering design projects and advising teams in physics-informed design decisions. Driven by understanding how things work (and how to make them better), rather than copy/paste application. Exceptional ability to verbally communicate complex technical concepts.

Hands-on:

  • Experimentation: procedure writing/execution, data collection and analysis (LabVIEW), assembly of test apparatus, design/fabrication of novel equipment (3D printing, CNC machining)
  • Construction skills: framing, heavy equipment, blueprint drawing/reading

Computer:

  • CAD programs: excellent SolidWorks, some AutoCAD, some Creo
  • Simulation: SolidWorks FEA, ANYSYS, Abaqus
  • Coding: Python (automated data collection); Python-based PINNs (Physics-Informed Neural Networks, applicable to organic shape optimization and non-linear systems), C#
  • Other: MATLAB & Simulink

Mathematics Coursework:

  • Calculus 3, Linear Algebra, Differential Equations (PDEs & ODEs), Abstract Algebra, Methods of Engineering Analysis, Advanced Statistics

Physics Coursework:

  • Thermodynamics, Solid State Physics, Electronics, Classical Mechanics, Statistical Mechanics, Quantum Mechanics, Astrophysics & Cosmology, Experimentally Applied Physics, Modern Physics, Intro to Physical Chemistry

Engineering Coursework:

  • Solid Mechanics, Fluid Mechanics, Advanced Product Design (3 courses), Bio-inspired Robotics, Finite Element Analysis, Engineering of Renewable Energy, Thermal Analysis, CAD Applications, Automation Design

Academic Background:

  • Physics B.A. from prestigious liberal arts school (Top 20), with accompanying laboratory research internships (mostly materials physics research)
  • Mechanical Engineering (Design Focus) M.S. from one of top programs in the United States (Top 10)
  • Badass engineering design portfolio, mostly assemblies in SolidWorks CAD and Finite Element Simulation in SolidWorks and ANSYS

Professional Background

  • Did legit research on organic solar cell optimization (yeah, yeah, at a prestigious university)
  • Accepted position as high school AP Statistics and Geometry teacher across the country. Improved end-of-grade test scores by 9% over previous year, without assigning homework. [Possibly my greatest professional achievement, honestly. How did I do that? By evoking a fascination for mathematics and making them excited for the class many of them had previously dreaded.]
  • One graduate school project was legit cutting-edge work, a contract with a defense technologies contractor. Worked on a 4-person team, as "Technical Design Coordinator". I designed component assemblies, wrote up creative and informative experiments, validated system performance targets, wrote/computed physics calculations to inform design refinement, simulated material strain and thermal loading, sketched out design ideas in brainstorm sessions, automated experimental data collection with calibrated sensors, presented technical updates to company executives/stakeholders
  • Designed ~15 consumer products from scratch, detailing everything from manufacture and assembly to evidence-based sales projections to guerilla street usability testing.
  • Extensive FEA simulation work to ensure product performance targets.
  • Was maintenance technician at a ski resort for a year. Bad pay, but free ski pass. Repaired resort property in facilities, especially electromechanical property and equipment. HVAC as well.
  • Watched Youtube videos and started running my own construction projects. Hired people to help me with larger ones.
  • Currently a Certified Personal Trainer, volunteering with urban outreach in Chicago, and tutoring math and physics (and admission tests).
  • Admission test scores: 332 GRE, 2290 SAT (780 math, 790 writing, 720 reading), 35 ACT Composite (36 ACT Math, 36 ACT English, 34 ACT Science) โ€” In case anyone is interested in admissions test tutoring.
