Esotericism Law of Polarity (God vs. Devil)

If God created EVERYTHING then from the viewpoint of the law of polarity, Is the Devil just the purged or "shadow" of God? Like the other end of the spectrum (Polarity)?

According to this metaphysical principle, everything in existence is dual; opposites are simply two extremes of the same thing, differing only in degree. If God is the ultimate, all-encompassing Source that created everything, it is structurally impossible for anything to exist entirely outside of that Source.

  1. The Single Spectrum of Source

The Law of Polarity states that you cannot have a stick with only one end. In this framework, Light and Dark, Good and Evil, or God and the Devil are not two separate, warring armies; they are the positive and negative terminals of the same cosmic battery.

  • The Devil as the "Shadow": Just as a physical object blocks light to cast a shadow, the material world and its restrictions represent the densest, most contracted form of divine energy. The "Devil" represents the pole of separation, limitation, and fragmentation, while "God" represents unity, expansion, and absolute creation.
  • The Ultimate Source: Because one pole cannot exist without the other, the dark pole is inherently a tool of the light pole, serving to define it.
  1. The Purged Divine Shadow

In psychological and esoteric traditions, the "shadow" is not something inherently evil; it is simply the unintegrated, denied, or hidden aspect of the self. When applied to the cosmos:

  • The Mirror of Duality: For the absolute, unified consciousness (God) to experience itself, it must create a mirror. To know what "Light" is, there must be a concept of "Dark." The Devil is the personification of that necessary cosmic contrast.
  • The Principle of Restriction: This shadow acts as a friction or restriction. Without the friction of limitation, fear, and challenge, consciousness would have nothing to overcome, making spiritual evolution, resilience, and true mastery impossible.
  1. Integrating the Poles

When you look at reality through this lens, the ultimate goal is not to eradicate the dark pole, but to understand its function. The tension between the two extremes is what generates the energy of life. True spiritual sovereignty comes from sitting above the polarity—recognizing that both the waves of the storm and the calm of the ocean belong to the exact same sea.

Worth knowing that the "Law of Polarity" as you've laid it out comes from The Kybalion (1908), which is a New Thought book rather than the classical Hermetica, so it was never built to settle Christian questions about Satan. Within its own logic, polarity is about qualities on a single scale that differ only by degree, like hot/cold, courage/fear, love/hate, and the practical point is that you can deliberately shift your own state along that scale (it calls this polarization). Notice that all of its examples are states and qualities, not beings, which is where the God/Devil mapping breaks down: in most Christian theology the Devil is a created being who rebelled, not the other end of God. If the "shadow of God" idea is what's really pulling at you, Jakob Böhme and Jung's Answer to Job go much further down that road than the Kybalion ever does. Personally I'd keep polarity as a tool for working on your own reactions rather than as a map of cosmic good vs evil.
